    You guys really need an A/B box for those two guitars. 😂 Loved this and I (we) need more GAG. See you guys soon at NAMM maybe?

      Hey Kris. Yeah, we can definitely hook up an A/B box in the future. We definitely have a lot more of them coming :). I will see you at NAMM for sure, Joey unfortunately won't be able to make it this year, hopefully next year. See you at the show!

    Chasing that one sound, and asking every pedal to conform, is what John Cordy called Tonal Determinism. A lot of us are guilty of it, and if you’re not interested in exploring tones outside of your comfort zone, even if it’s just a one off sound, then lots of pedals (or amps, or guitars) will disappoint you. Because suddenly you can’t do that thing you always do, and it “feels” wrong initially. It often takes time to sit with a guitar or a pedal, and create a new ecosystem around it. You can’t always just jam something new in a rig and expect it to level you up. You have to meet the gear where it is, and that might require a learning curve. I’ve always deeply appreciated that Joey explores, and looks for those surprises, even if it’s only does one thing.

      I absolutely get what you are talking about. I am normally good with that, except for overdrives. I have this sound in my head and I constantly try to chase it out of all drive pedals. That being said, just because I can't find it, doesn't mean I don't like the piece or won't pick it up, I just gravitate to that thing first. Does that make sense?

      @ and just to clarify, I didn’t mean you specifically. The collective of guitar players out there who buy something and don’t like it, because it doesn’t do that thing. 👍🏻

    I had never consciously thought about how I play a fuzz vs gain but Joey's explanation here is exactly what I've been doing instinctively. Playing softer, playing simpler & in so doing sounding huge. Will push back a lil bit on the "fuzz doesn't sound good into a clean amp" with "fuzz doesn't sound good into a clean amp with headroom". Fuzz into a champ or Princeton gonna sound pretty good, into a Super probably not...unless the Super's on 11.

    • @CorbCorbin
      @CorbCorbin 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I will push back on “fuzz not sounding good into a clean amp with headroom,” by saying it depends on the amp.
      A Marshall, that I can get crunchy clean, even with a lot of headroom, will sound great, whether it’s a Fuzz Face, or the Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh, that is my Muff fuzz.
      Other amps with a lot of headroom, I keep clean, but I use an amp in a box OD, or just one with a little mid bump, with the gain nearly off. Just as a boost, so the Fuzz will cut through a mix.
      What sounds good alone with Fuzz, is almost never what works with a full band, especially if there’s another guitarist, and someone on keys.
      It leaves little room for a big Fuzz tone. It’s why I like Fuzz Faces, snd that Pharaoh.
      The Pharaoh cleans up with my Strat very well. Not like a good FF, but I use it similarly.
      They’re just different sounds, that I use for specific songs.

    Dude, have you never tried a Fuzz Face?
    Get a really low gain OD or a boost, with a mid boost(preferably), and run it after the Fuzz Face.
    You can get the most clear, great Overdrive tone, sparkly cleans or the nasty.
    With a wah, it opens even more possibilities.

    • @Derek-Revv
      @Derek-Revv 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I actually have not tried a Fuzz Face, I bought one with the intention of trying it, but to be honest, I got a bit too busy to be able to sit down with it. I will hopefully mess with it a lot more after NAMM.

      @Derek-Revv there is a local pedal builder in Dauphin that came from Ukraine. He doesn't speak a ton of English, but I'm going to get him to come to a jam soon, and if the pedals are any good, maybe I'll try to get some to ya?

    Feel is such a hard concept to explain ... I'm probably way off but I suppose it's your body or brain's reaction to what your ears hear relative to the input you make on the guitar? I dunno. But I completely agree with Joey about the feel side of things. A really good amp and guitar, in a room, really can't be beat.

    • @Derek-Revv

      100%. It's difficult to explain to people, but when you sit down and play something, you get it immediately.

      One of them is for a PRS DGT I have, the other is for a Veritas Portlander. I am not sure who makes the cases themselves, but the bottom is the PRS, and the top is the Veritas.

    Fuzz is the strat of pedals. If you learned on one, you swear by it. Nothing else does it for you. If you grew up with anything else from no pedal to drive pedals to distortion to timing and modulation, you're unlikely to be able to get the most out of fuzz. Just like a strat, fuzz is a slightly different instrument than its counterparts. Enough of a variation to not only be its own thing but to have its own learning curve that applies only to it.

    • @CorbCorbin
      @CorbCorbin 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, for Fuzz Faces that can be true, for sure.
      Joey gave him bad advice, if he’s going to use Humbuckers either way that Fuzz Face.
      Don’t need to dime it, especially with Humbuckers.
      Then the comment about a clean amp. I like a crunchy clean tone, but some amps just work better with an always on drive pedal, instead of using the preamp gain.
      I use Marshall in a box pedals, for amps that I run clean.
      The Fuzz Face usually sounds killer through them.
      As far as other Fuzzes, it’s different.
      Just the Big Muff, has so many different versions, then mods to those. Most who like a Op Amp Big Muff, won’t like a Silicon or Germanium Diode clipping one.
      Then there are all the different starved battery, type fuzzes, or the COB circuits, bosstone, tuna cans, and on and on, Ahhhhh!!!
      I need to go look at fuzzes I can’t afford, right now. 😆

    • @CraigFlowersMusic
      @CraigFlowersMusic 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ It sounds like you use distortion pedals in front of clean amps, which is the way I would use one. I put overdrive pedals in front of driving amps instead of clean amps like I would a distortion. Either way, a fuzz needs some kind of gain to slam into just like a tube screamer does. Even if it’s just fuzz into distortion pedals into clean amp, thumbs up. If it’s a two transistor circuit instead of muff or other four transistor style, then it should probably go first in the chain. That’s when it starts to fight with your wah because it has to go after that at least.
