I haven't yet use it. I will love it. I have more than 25 years as IT Systems Analyst MAINFRAME, but need to refresh my hands on. thank you thank you. Amazing found that here. Love your numbers in the presentention. PERFECT!
This was a great video, I was able to follow the instructions and downloaded and install OpenCobolIDE onto my window pc, and will be doing the same for my Mac as well. Thanks again for a great presentation.
Hey Kumar i'm from Brazil, this video helped me a lot i'm starting to study cobol and i wasn't finding a video teaching to install the compiler, many thanks amigo!
Wow! Just wow! Wonderful tutorial. Can you please make a video on CA Intertest tool. Unfortunately no one knows much about Intertest tool in my project. And I need to debug a COBOL DB2 program. This would definitely help a lot of people as there is literally not much info about this tool except CA's own website.
Hi Kumar, thanks posting training videos on mainframe. I am requesting you could you please make and post a videos on resume building session and how to kept projects on resume for mainframes.
Can you please let us know how we can analyse COBOL program quickly using any particular tool which represents the control flow graphically when I have only the source code, no copybook, no sub routines only source of a main program.
Yes. COBOL is still widely used. I work for the county and we have 3 COBOL programmers still with is. It is such an old language that many people today don't know or care about it. There is a job for you there if you can learn it, Syntax isn't that hard at all since it based on language. And bonus points if you know C# because many places want to move on from COBOL one day and will need someone to interpret code between the two to migrate. COBOL will be around a while because the process of migrating to a new way of doing things is tedious and dangerous. As a mistake can erase scores of years of tax information and create giant problems. It is just safer to suffer with the older way of things.
@@BloodLegaZ Yes, after 20 years of web programming with C#, ASP.NET and SQL Server, I want to learn COBOL and became a proficient developer in this old language.
Sssh, even CICS actual runs as a “batch” program... and YES back in the 90s I was told that IBM COBOL was “dead” 🤣😂😅 there is no reason to “upgrade” COBOL, too expensive, too long, and that would be like “throwing out” decades of fixing bugs and have retest everything... plus COBOL is a - simple - language and that is its MAJOR VIRTUE! The applications that run are mind bogglingly complex and there is no reason to complicate things even further with less “orthogonal” languages (like JaveScript) when we are talking about - business applications - (that pay the most $$$) 😁
Hello Punakrishna, you can purchase the id or you can get one from IBM portal / check of MTM Challenge in ibm portal , you register you would get a id to practice.
I would like to practice Cobol programming with set of data I have in excel file. Is it possible to transfer excel data into Cobol IDE? If yes, is there any tutorial?
Hi! Thank you for your informative videos. Is there a reason why the Google Drive files no longer compile? And/or the highlight preferences stopped working?
Thanks can you please also show us how to work with Hercules Hercules come with MVS 3.8 and it has something similar to ISPF Very close to real IBM mainframe
Yes, you can download from the IBM Portal. 1) Using Cloud 2) you Can download to your local machine Here is the free trail link www.ibm.com/analytics/db2/trials

Hi kumar, I have downloaded the open COBOL ide 4.7.6 but , not able to compile and run it's showing error GnuCOBOL compiler not found or not working. Can you help me on this. Thanks
The Y2K problem was really caused by the inability of COBOL to handle date data types. Programmers only used the last 2 digits to represent the year. Another down fall that COBOL allowed programmers to write spaghetti code that was difficult to follow.
While it's true that many Y2K issues stemmed from the use of two-digit year representations, it's not accurate to solely blame COBOL. The two-digit year convention was a widespread practice across various languages and systems, primarily to save storage space when it was expensive. Additionally, while COBOL did not inherently prevent spaghetti code, such coding practices were more a result of programming standards of the time rather than the language itself. Modern COBOL standards and practices have evolved to promote better code clarity and structure.

It won't support complex file logic comprising multiple files, we can perform basic tasks though.
Hi! Thank you for your informative videos. Is there a reason why the Google Drive files no longer compile? And/or the highlight preferences stopped working?
Thanks for the video. Do you need to have GNU Cobol installed separately or does automatically get installed with the IDE installation? Thanks.
Need to Install GNU Cobol for a better results
