Great pattern. I've recently (okay, for several months now) become interested in knotted patterns, but yet to give one a try. This video may have finally lured me to the point of no return. Thanks
That looks Amazing bud. I like ur channel a lot. Because u explain what ur doing. Not like some other videos out there. U have to guess what there doing and what there using. U inspired me to start tying again !!! . I thank u for that. 🙏🙏🙏
Great looking fly!I am curious as to why you used Black 6/0 thread for your first thread ,due to the translucent nature of the abdomen I thought a red or yellow thread would have been more appropriate!thanks for a great tutorial.Earl
Thanks Earl! I like to use black because it gives it more depth. Using a thread that matches the material will just blend in. This way it could be the innards or coloration of the shellback etc. I appreciate you tuning
Am I missing something here; I thought your were 'knotting' with two different colors, but the result looks like one color? How does that happen? Thank you
+Larry Glatt I'm guessing HCFF will get back to you but here's my take. As he made each overhand knot, he was careful to keep the darker color on top of the hook, while placing the lighter color below. He explains this procedure and it is also visually apparent beginning at 3:36. Rather than ending up with two contrasting colors on top, it places each color (respectively) in their positions. Again, my take is this allows the initial black thread to show through the bottom of the pattern, appearing to be very bug like.
+troutbum61 I now do see the yellow with the black showing through thank you, but the differentiation is not that great to my eyes. I have it bookmarked to try along with the other woven fly techniques.
+troutbum61 sorry I'm late to the thread, but your explanation is spot on. I like the lighter color on bottom and purposefully chose a dark thread so it shows. Lot of color choices combinations to choose from, but this combo is my favorite. Thanks for tuning in!
