Please answer! Do I have to backup my phone when I switch my phone to a new phone ? Will I lose my photos and contacts? I have an 8 and switching to iPhone 11
******UPDATE***** SORRY everyone looks like HEVC in the Microsoft store is ***NOT FREE*** to download anymore. You might have to pay $0.99 cents for it now since they update it. I apologize as it use to be FREE when I did this video.*******
@@jamiewagner I did the updates! What fixed it was I downloaded the HEVC one, I thought it was JUST for videos but my friend said there was overlap with pictures and you'd need both. Thanks for your video!

Jamie, nice vid, and nice lookin' out! Unfortunately, this method doesn't work for me [and lots of others] I got a GoPro Hero 9 a few weeks ago, and have yet to be able to use it.. My two computers are ASUS ROG G752 laptops, and neither would open H.265 formatted files.. More infuriating, Sony Vegas won't even recognize/import them for editing/re-formatting.. I've jumped through all the hoops on/off for weeks, and Microsoft [the scum of the earth] is not getting a cent from me, so 'buying' a codec is out of the question.. These links to the 'free' version never work, as with others, I'm/we're not getting a download link.. Instead, it's a re-direct to a screen that says: "Redeem your code or gift card" They require a 25 character 'code' which seems to be more illusive than Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster.. [I've tried using 3 confirmed/official e-mail accounts & 3 Microsoft accounts, and have yet to receive a code. It's pathetic that in 2020, we're having to deal with s**t like this.] In the past month, I've dropped well over a grand for a Hero 7 and Hero 9, accessories, etc. and I shouldn't have to add on a brand new computer now just to use them.. * I was able to find / install a program that converts H.265 to H.264 - for viewing/editing, but that's beside the point, and it is a complete waste of time.. Frustrated & Furious pretty much sums it up at this point. **Sigh** Any other help/info/ideas would be greatly appreciated! Til' then, I'll try my best not to smash all of this stuff into pieces. haha Sam -
as long as it's that type of file it should open, I also paid .99 cents for this and mine opens my files ok. Maybe you have a different type of file? or are you sure it's h.265? type of video file?
@@jamiewagner I have this video clip straight from canon r5 and it opens but never plays smoothly or never plays at all. Do you know any more video players or extensions needed? It's Mp4 but the other players say that It's unsupported file format :(( I could always encode it but I built this pc to be more than enough handle these kind of files like 10bit 4:2:2 4k my specs: Windows 10 i9-9900k CPU @ 3.60GHz 64GB ram rtx3070 gpu
Yeah now they charge for it and I left an update for everyone in the comments. I plan on making a new up to date video soon I hope, then I guess I will have to delete this one

As of June 2023, M$soft has reverted to a pay model for this codec again...So as a workaround I just installed VLC Player.
good choice I love VLC player in the past I used it all the time I always liked that one!!
What about Canon's .HIF images shot with EOS R5?

@@jamiewagner it says it's an HEIC file in Windows Photos. I've updated to the new 2004 version of Windows
Make sure you do all your windows updtes

yeah try VLC media player. I used to use it all the time and it worked good.
