After watching about 40-50 videos of your work, this for me, is in my top 5. Very real. Truly authentic and it just simply captures you and your “voice” at work.

Bill want to thank you. I am new to the business and at the age of 40 am finally following my dream. Your videos have been so helpful to me. One of the best things about this one is the minor mistakes you made. I am somewhat of a perfectionist and get so bogged down with the little mistakes I make. But to see you make one and then just reread it and not get frustrated really makes me feel much better about myself. Once again thank you so much for your videos and your heartfelt advice. I hope to someday be in a position to pass on knowledge myself. Thanks again.

Bill, I have admiration for you, your persistency in delivering good, clear, helplful talks. After a 43 year legal courtroom career, being an Amazon bestseller, over 3 million words in print, musician and artist, I have learned lots from my life, professional and personal experiences. I wrote four novels and want to narrate them. I begain with ACX, and luckily I discovered you with your wise experience in how to live through this new experience I am committed to excel at. I am persistant. I just want to say your videos have moved me through many questions and I know I must focus, have attention on the process and don't waver. I will do a better than DIY demo, as my good friend here in Clearwater is a pro and has a studio. We will make some good ones. I will learn to market and kick ass. thank you

Bill, Mr DeWees - you know, I can sense you're a caring sort of man, and really want to express my gratitude to you for your time and free direction/tutorials. Like an intern who learns hands on, and by the guidance of the experienced, your substantial videos and efforts to genuinely help and introduce others, is breathtaking and priceless. So, I sincerely thank you Mr DeWees, may GOD continue to bless you, and I hope to learn all that I can from your outstanding presentations. Thank you, Truly.

You do a very good job at explaining things clearly and breaking them down. It's even better to watch the actual process take place like you just did. Not many other teachers do it for some reason. Anyways, thank you, I really enjoy learning from your videos.

Naturally my voice is not very good, but I love the way you said one has to ask themselves what the words mean to them in order to help with the read .... Great advice ... Thank you

Wow, you totally cleared up how to approach a script. I never would have thought to break down the key ideas and ask myself what those mean to me.
Great videos overall by the way, I've spent a lot of time watching them over the last two days. Consider me subscribed.

I like the way you annotate your scripts, especially the timing-by-section strategy I see you used. Pacing is a bit of an issue for me in my practice so far and this may be helpful.

I have always been interested in voice over work and have never made the decision to make the necessary sacrifices to move in that direction. Like pretty much everyone else, I am constantly told I should be doing something with my voice; partly because almost everything I say in my day to day conversation is said in a "voice over type tone". I've been joking with this since I was 16 and I'm 37 now. I'm sure I could have been doing this work by now, but have never stopped to plan on how to invest into voice coaching, who to trust, how to to this while working, etc. I understand the need to invest into the craft. I have been hesitant because of the fears that accompany trying to do something new. I would feel horrible if I go through life without striving to do this some day at a professional level. I think I have the voice for different types of delivery, but the training and skills are a must; that I still need. I've seen a few of your videos today and they are really motivating. I know it's not easy work and that there is so much more to this than speaking into a microphone. It is a craft. You seem sincere and down to earth. I hope to watch more of your videos and move toward finding my place. Sorry about the long message. Thanks for your videos.

    Mr. DeWees,
Thank you for the tips you so freely share.
I have often felt stymied by my own ideas of being perfect. This video sets me free! Your tips are so on point that they have pointed out a way to silence all the noises in my head. Am off to compose my updated show reel with a much clearer head!
    Thank you.

Thank you so much Bill for doing that. I’m so critical of my own reading, but in my own mind I could almost hear myself coaching the seasoned professional the way I do the newbie (me) when I listen back to myself. I can’t afford professional coaching yet, but can’t wait to get there when I can and see how much better I can be. Listening to this wasn’t so different than listening to myself, except that you’re better at it than I am and the differences are so subtle even then. Hope that made sense! Key point is to get that coaching because it’s really impossible to coach ourselves adequately.

I first want to thank you Bill for this and all the many many other videos you make that are filled with very sensible tips proving incredibly helpful to me in exploring the field. I am just starting to practice reading copy and after watching someone else coach with a myriad of tips for one piece of copy, it just jumbled up my head and the read, but your tip of just being yourself makes it flow much more naturally! I paused the video and tried recording this before listening to your take and I wonder if those are time targets noted above each section because I had to read the second one very quickly to make it fit?

This is really helpful, thanks. Question: do you take into consideration the time markers in the script? Are you shooting for each section to match those lengths?

    • @VoiceCoach-BillDeWees
      @VoiceCoach-BillDeWees 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

For an audition, I don't get overly concerned with the time markers. If I'm in the general vicinity, I think it's ok. If I get hired, I"ll pay very close attention to the time markers ;-)...fingers crossed!

Bill...this was great! You nailed it, by the way. As a former Reverse Mortgage Expert, the way you voiced it, with the emphasis you put on the things important to seniors was perfect. If you don't get the job, I will be very surprised. This kind of input helps me tremendously and emphasizes what I learned in my VO training. I find now that I'm auditioning more and more, I have to go back to my notes often to remind myself of who my audience is.. and be myself. Thanks for this tip especially..Tom Sykes

I loved seeing this, its fantastic to actually see your process and what a professionalized audition even looks like. Thanks so much for the explanations and great commentary you always include :) I have a question - do you send it in even with the pause and retake just as is and they'll edit it, is that fine to do or do you suggest doing it again and again until it has no errors?

    • @VoiceCoach-BillDeWees

    Thanks for the video, Bill!
Something you said inspired a question:
when you come across a word with different (common) pronunciations like "niche," how do you decide which pronunciation to go for?
Obviously I would ask my client about the pronunciation of a product name, etc., but this is a little bit more nit-picky. Do you ask for a pronunciation preference, pick based on your analysis, or record both options to present? Thanks!

Hi Isabelle...Actually, most of the time I just take my best guess. If the client doesn't agree, they'll let me know. :-)

Good video, yet for an audience of 62 and older, I might choose to speak more slowly, and really emphasize key words. Many that will hear this, will be 70 or 75 and older, and most, by that age, have not only lost some hearing, abilities, but most definitely have lost the ability to take in information as quickly as they used to.
