    Can you maintain privacy while using the same WiFi internet connection as others?
    Would a VPN be best? Thanks.

    Very nice and thank you for sharing! This really helps. I do have one question and that is do you think a VPN should be add and will it help any?

    • @Artexic
      @Artexic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem xiongvue15, I'm glad it was useful. I'm always split in my view of VPN's. A VPN can add security, but can be pretty useless if your device or network is compromised or the VPN provider (particularly a risk with cheap home user products).
      Personally I don't feel the average home user benefits enough from a VPN. I'd advocate a focus on device and network security, and being suspicious of any website that doesn't run as https (SSL/TLS certificate). Use of quality browser extensions like PrivacyBadger can help, to reduce the risk of website malware infections.
      Did you have a special reason in-mind for using a VPN? Happy to consider doing a video on the topic if there's an area that could be useful.

    Can you point me to a tutorial that will show me how to do this physically? I’m lost but want to tighten things up at home. I need an actual step by step though. I appreciate your info and any possible help. Thank you.

    • @Artexic
      @Artexic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Manuel, unfortunately each router has slightly different options, so there is no single tutorial for this.
      If you search Google for your router model's user guide, you should be able to find the instructions for doing it on your router model.
      I hope that helps, always great to help someone is checking an improving their security.

    • @Artexic
      @Artexic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi CandyCandy, it varies by model of router. Many have a button on the front that you can hold down to turn it off. The best trick is to lookup your routers manual online, and search for "WPS", it should be clearly referenced in there. Happy to try looking if you share your router model number

    • @Artexic

      @Elpistoler09 if you're on your wifi, you should be able to get to your routers page as before. Have you made sure that your device reconnected to the wifi after the change? As the wifi details are strictly changed, you may need to tell your device to forget the current details, and enter them again, so the device uses WPA2-PSK going forward.
      If this still doesn't work, you maybe best resetting your router, as it would suggest something went wrong when the router updated the wifi settings if you still can't reach the routers admin pages.

    what do you do if you think your wifi is being monitored

    • @Artexic
      @Artexic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends what you mean by "monitored". I assume you mean someone is sniffing your traffic. What makes you think that? You could use a VPN product to encrypt your wifi traffic, although if the sniffer is sniffing everything, they maybe able to decrypt even that.
      Would be good to know what you think if happening and what evidence you have for this. Ultimately you need to engage the authorities if you have enough evidence of someone illegally spying on you.

    • @MaxColudro
      @MaxColudro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Artexic How exactly does one go about getting evidence of being hacked or monitored? That being said, my Mac Pro has repeatedly been locking me out of my own 16 alphanumeric passwords and I need to find out if someone is hacking me. Please tell me what I should do besides calling the authorities has they never really seem to care about personal hackers as supposed to barbaric crimes- stabbings, gunshots, mugging, etc...

    ?wpa encryption algorithm Tkip or Aes

    • @Artexic
      @Artexic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Maher, thanks for the question. Most security experts will tell you to use AES with WPA2. I wouldn't worry if you have TKIP at home, so long as you are using WPA/WPA2. For nee setups though, go with AES for its improved security.

      @@Artexic What was TKIP flaw ?

    • @Artexic
      @Artexic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi@@wildyato3737, there have been a few successful attack methods pulblished against TKIP I believe. Use of CRC32 is generally quoted as the most major flaw. This is no longer considered secure, and is one of the reasons WEP was considered weak. TKIP uses this, and whilst I certainly wouldn't put WPA use of TKIP in the same camp as WEP, AES is generally now accepted as being significantly more secure than the older TKIP.

    • @Artexic
      @Artexic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hayat, is that the username and password to access your router configuration? If so, you may need to search for the default details online/on the back of your router. If they don't work, press and hold any reset button on your router. This will wipe your router setup and username/password, you can then login with the default details, resetup any settings like adding a wifi network, before checking those in the video.
