Welcome to your 'Layer With Me' video and it is here as a big thank you to you for getting me to 10K subs on TH-cam. You voted for it and it is finally here!
So the idea of my 'Layer With Me' videos is that you can make your own piece with me. I go through each step and you can follow along then pause as you need to to finish each layer. If you are new to mixed media art it is a great way to build up confidence. And if you are a bit further along then you can change it up as you like and I have some tips and ideas on how as we go through.
Then when you have done your project link me up to the finished piece on social media and my links are all below. For quick reference I am @kimdellow on most things including Instagram.

That's really lovely! I like doing the blocking out technique, it's a good way to use some of my gel prints, and I usually do flowers as the focal point. I love your funky flowers too. Thanks.

Thank you Julia! Oh I do like this technique too, it is so useful isn't it?! Some people don't like losing the layers underneath but I see it more as transforming them. Hope you are having some creative fun!
Oh yes, I certainly am! I liked this piece so much, I made my own, although I didn't use as many layers, and I just used a sheet of paper that I'd used to clean my brayer on, instead of lots of different pieces. It was fun!

Managed to get to 6:50 before children called. I am excited to give this a go, though a little daunted by the 2 hours you said it might take and then freaked out by the word "draw" as just finished this watching.

So cool! Do you happen to have a link to purchase translucent paints?
Hi Fran, I am glad you like it! I have a link to the paints I used in the description under the video. Some of them happened to be translucent. Generally it is down to the pigment used to make the paint. So each brand and each range of acrylic paints has a mix of translucent and opaque paints in the range. If they are an art brand they will tell you on the label (or in the description online) if they are a translucent or an opaque paint. I would not worry too much about it, pick colours that you like and if you are using a translucent paint and you want to cover a layer add white to the paint. If you are using an opaque and you want to see the layer underneath add water, or an acrylic medium that increases flow, and put the paint on thinly. I hope that helps.
Hello and sorry if my English is bad, I'm just starting in the art journal, I start, I love your technique and video but I would like to know, in the end why put lots of pieces of paper if they are all covered ? I hope you do not take it badly, I'm just trying to understand
Thank you for your question and welcome to my channel! It is a brilliant question.
So I like doing the collage layer (which is when you stick paper to a surface) and then adding paint over the top for a few different reasons.
First it adds texture, so even if you completely cover the paper later there is still the texture of the paper on the surface with the torn or cut edges.
Second, I don't always cover it up completely and you can see in the flowers and leaves in this project, for example, that some of the paper designs are peeking through. And you can add more or less paint, as you want, to show less or more of that collage layer.
Then there is a third reason and that is sometimes you don't know what you are going to do for a piece when you start it and using collage is a great way to just get started, to break that blank canvas/ white paper. If you end up covering then that is part of the process. If little bits of that first layer peak through then it all adds texture.

Do you have any control over the ads that precede your video. Because I find that Epoch Times ad offensive.
Hi Nellie, sorry I don't, other than turning them off completely. The best thing to do is complain directly to TH-cam with details of the ad. We all see different ones, I haven't seen that one.
To get rid of the ads, I had to subscribe to TH-cam Premium. I think it's $12.99/month, but I don't have to deal with those annoying ads anymore.
