It can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless if they’re an “OG” fan or not. For example, a lot of people say the DreamSMP is one of the most toxic fandoms out there, when I (as an impartial person) don’t really agree. There is a good and bad, like everything, but it’s not that bad. I’ve read Passerine (a DSMP fanfic), before I even knew anything more outside the characters names, and that shit was fire
