Same! Was playing old songs from high school on spotify and this song popped in my head but couldn't remember the name or lyrics. I remembered that this was with their new lead singer so i did a Google search of rock bands that changed lead singers, and once I saw "I Mother Earth" I knew I had found it. Such a great song but ITS NOT ON SPOTIFY 😢 I'm heartbroken...oh well, guess I'll have to enjoy it on here

I think (only my opinion) Dig is perhaps the best album from the perspective of looking at it like a complete work. It flows, it hauls ass. Front to back. I feel like its a story in its own. However the two best songs the band has ever done I feel are this one and All Awake. Stunning songs. Simply gorgeous. I just felt like the latter two albums were more uneven tho. Like they had some amazing songs, but had their share of filler.
I ended up kind of mashing them together in a way i felt flowed well and was a great album full of songs. In that its amazing.

In light of my present mess
In light of my mental weather's turn
In light of all the crash and burn
I'll open my mind as wide as ever
The lie behind the lesson, the soul in the open well
It might have been fate, It might have been fortune
It might have been wine and a mellow head
I'm finding my way, Finding the words
    One body breaking
    Someone come and rise up
    Rise like the sun
If I am no one, Somebody save me
    Someone come and rise up
    Pride doesn't own me now
But know that at times life kinda hurts
And know that I will live and learn
So more than survive, I will endeavour
The mind behind the message, Alone on an ocean swell
It might have been grace, It might have gorgeous
It might have been why I've settled in
I'm finding my way, Finding the words
    One body breaking
    Someone come and rise up
    Rise like the sun
If I am no one, Somebody save me
    Someone come and rise up
    Rise and show
A helpless man, a held out hand
Defining images that flow through my hope's
    Surrender
the broken moments and pointing fingers
    The closing of open minds
I might have been delayed, I might have been delirious
    I might have been otherwise
Taking hammer blows Like an animal
    For others
    So heavy was my weight
    I'm finding my way
    Finding the words
    One body breaking
    Someone come and rise up
    Rise like the sun
    You'll find the world
    Somebody save me
    Someone come and rise up
I'm finding my way, Finding the words
    One body breaking
    Someone come and rise up
    Rise like the sun
If I am no one, Somebody save me
    Someone come and rise up
    Rise and show
    Show us
    Something

I have quite an extensive list of bands that I love. But if I were stranded on a desert island and had a choice of five albums, they would be Lateralus by Tool, Superunknown by Soundgarden, Purple by STP, Tales from the Punchbowl by Primus and Scenery and Fish by IME. I know Edwin's a douche bag and everything, but I remember the summer of 1996 at Edgefest in Barrie, these guys blew Our Gaydy Peace off the stage. Too bad they couldn't resolve their differences. They would have been huge.

  • @PresupPoli
    @PresupPoli 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

This concludes my saga of trying to remember this song.
I was initially half remembering a partial lyric from the intro to “Summertime in the void,” but also knew the song had the word “Sun” in it somewhere. So I used ChatGPT and the Claude AI (by Anthropic) to try to figure it out. I even tried that “Ask Akinator” app 😂
I told the two AIs that the music video had the lead singer singing directly into the camera and he had longish hair and maybe a toque. ChatGPT actually wrote, “Longish hair and possibly wearing a toque doesn't narrow it down much in the realm of 2000s rock or alternative music.”
Eventually, the Claude AI spat out “I Mother Earth,” and I remembered the song title “Summertime in the void.” I thought it was case closed as it had the keyword I was looking for in the lyrics - “nexus.” But after watching the music video, it didn’t seem correct. No singer singing directly to the camera with longish hair and (maybe) a toque. So I searched for “I Mother Earth” music videos, and here we are.

@witness10643 OK gotcha now. I think the style of guitar was a part of the era as well. A lot of bands were doing that at the time and a few still do for that matter. As to the band line up, the only person in IME that isn't original is the Singer. Edwin left and was replaced by Brian. Something you may not know too, Jag is the writer of the group.

@@patrickgrondines7997 Dig is by far the most even and cohesive album on the whole, while I think the absolute best songs were from byrne. I found the 2 latter albums more uneven with their share of filler. But still worth getting none the less.

oh man. you and me both. i really like f11's self titled album as well but i know a lot of the older fans (and i count myself in this. i've been following them since the first album) don't like it, but i really do. after that... i just can't do it. but those first three records and beyond good

I got all of their stuff - its hard to say if one is better than others. They all got some really strong songs and some weaker ones, too. I liked both singers. I think QSMD is their most balanced, most intrique and most complex material they produced. Too bad they are not around anymore. When I am in bad shape, all I have to do is to spin their stuff and all of sudden the wolrd is a better place for me.

I have always loved IME, I was sad to see Edwin go after Scenery & Fish. You could tell his musical influence on IME as the change of sound after he left. Still great music and a great sound.. But my favorite song is probably still "The Earth, Sky & C"

@regan4000 IME just announced two shows in Toronto in March, so they are back in a sense. They haven't made any commitment to make any new music, but I think they want to play it by ear. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I don't know what happened there. I want to listen to this song when I'm drinking which is not to often now. I realize it is past the days I was crowd surfing at Edgefest having a blast, but I just want to live the dream.

I followed these guys from the beginning, and I love their music but it might be a good thing that they broke up before selling out or starting to suck like so many bands do. Now we can remember them as great, instead of watching them deteriorate.
