Well done JT! Something to keep in mind, 2-stroke Detroit's like RPM's. They do not like to be lugged. They aren't called Screamin' Jimmy's for nothing!
Very true! The farm store I used to work at had a Trojan payloader with the v8 Detroit. Anytime you wanted to pick up a scoop of lime or drive into the pile, you floored the damn thing THEN moved the lever!
Figured it out,,,,he who dies with the most toys wins. Yer well on yer way my friend. Love this truck. You bought a truck and storage in the same unit. You wont be bored this winter. Cheers 🍻
Awesome buy, The farm fleet is growing and now all MI needs to trash the Govenor and open up the growing America again and recover the free world markets with our Products, Great to see can't wait till Sunday on the big boy
Been waiting for the Versitile over a year now...glad to hear your bringing one home finally...cant wait to see the old girl pulling impliments in the feilds again.
Great video 👍 Looks good and that Detroit sounds so cool. Great gear shiftings too 👍 That truck is going to look awesome in JT's hauler fleet colours 😎
I’ve got a single axle 6v92ta. Haven’t started it all summer and now I wanna go start it up! It’s flooding here right now. Gonna be a kewl rig! Keep up the good work.
Hey JT, I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before but I had a 1982 S2155 with the DR466 and 5X2 trans. Loved that truck. I had to rebuild the whole cab floor before the dog house would fit and seal out the oil smell from the engine. And then the mouse condominium also known as the heater box. Painted her with red and white stripes on the hood and a blue cab with stars! Gotta love those old "binders".
I had a 4300 international tandem with that same motor/transmission. Great truck until we switched to multi viscosity oil. Don’t ever use multi viscosity oils in a Gimmy
Our town still has at least 100 of these IH trucks in service. About half I'd say have 2 strokes in them. Used for plowing the roads, construction and loads of other DOT work
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 funny enough our whole county is so small and unpopulated that those Internationals make up the vast majority of DOT trucks in our entire county. The only other ones are old Mack R600 models which also sometimes have Detroits but those are a little more seldom to see.
A very rare 6-71T truck video Love the colour scheme With a 13 speed you can use it as a 9 speed if not too famiiar or running to heavy. Cheers from Australia.
I love the old Detroits!!! We lived right across a freight warehouse many years ago and listening to those Detroits screaming when they left right down the neighborhood street. Nobody ever complained about the noise and I would sit up in my bedroom window late at night and wait for them to leave.
Love it. Bad ass truck. Can not wait till you start fixing up projects. Throw a little heat in the new shop and away we go. Thanks for taking me along. Can not wait!
Good looking truck and I used to rebuild Detroit Diesel engines about 53 years ago when I was 18 and everyone of them leaked oil but you could not kill them great engines for construction equipment.
I learned how to drive a Detroit, 318 with a 6 speed in the field loading beside a beet loader. You learn very quickly to wind them up before even trying to shift, it can be done.
This should be a good unit for you. Nothin sweeter than a 2 cycle detroit converting diesel into noise. Whenever i drive the tandem grain truck, when empty i just run through the gears in direct, then hit high range in the last one. In fairness, the tandems with a 13 speed I've ran are all 400 and over horsepower.
JT you are bringing much memories of my trucking years working with the CN Railway V6's and v12's. One day a man riding with me said How come you don't use the clutch and I told him clutch is for 1st and reverse Great buy JT she sounds mint.
2 things that you need now, a thousand acres to justify all the four wheel drive tractors and the 3 tandem grain trucks, and a big ass shed like where the truck was parked by!!
The truck is awesome! And you were shifting gears like a professional driver. Was wondering we had a tandem chevy with a 20ft box, it was a 1977 and we bought it new. So that tells you how long ago I farmed. My question, don't the plates cost you a small fortune? I don't remember how much ours were but I remember we had to keep the weight down to get the farm tags cheaper. I think it had to weight less than 12,000 or 14,000 empty. We took it in to weight almost empty on fuel and the sideboards off the bed and we barely made the weight. We had to pay axle mile tax that was a cent and a half per mile. I'll bet it's alot more now. How's Michigan?
Great stuff JT, looking good from the Buck & Doe Ranch. a 6-71 T with a 13 speed is just about as cool as a twin stick V-6 Jimmy, keep up the good work 🤠
Do the jakes work? never heard them bark during the video. But still good video. Can’t wait too see get old girl clean up and some TLC and fix any minor issue like lights haha :)
@jtsbarnngrill6873 Hi from AB Canada. Loved the video :). I just found your channel today. Interesting. Surely a truck of this size would have Jake’s on the Detroit diesel? Unless they didn’t work and somebody just didn’t bother to hook it up? Or she didn’t come with jakes? Once the truck is all fixed up. It be first thing (if possible) I’d get jakes installed. I guess Google the engine model and see if jakes are standard on that engine. If yes then I’d guess check if there is jakes installed. If not, then curious what you gonna do? While I am no trucker or mechanic. Just a trucker fan, and I did grow up on a small horse farm in AB Canada. Loved hearing the jakes on older truck come down our access lane to get to other fields. My dad was heavy duty mechanic, so I picked up some skill learning from him.
Billy Big Rig!😂 I was really worried you might have a stuck fuel rack and a runaway. Definitely a possibility when those have been sitting for a while. Glad you thought about that too! Looks like the injectors might be worn judging from that smoke, or a bad seal in the turbo. If you have any questions about that Detroit, Bus Grease Monkey (Scott) here on YT is the man for those things! He knows pretty much everything there is to know about those 6-71’s. He can tell you all about those air brakes too.

Appreciate it!

Fuel rack yes; but a bad turbo or bad blower usually is the culprit. Or a improperly set fuel rack. 6-71 Detroit what a score JT!
