Another idea is removing all of the political parties from the ballot, so that you have to actually learn what each person you are voting for believes. This would force people to do research more (at least quick searches to find political parties for all candidates for all positions), and if they dare guess and have no clue what they are doing, then once they see that they accidentally voted for the wrong person, they will study more next time.

If the voter can’t even be asked to pressure there politicians on what there Bias’s are then you get the politicians you deserve

What is a 'positive view'? He certainly has views that he defends on hi blog. He does not only oppose - he does not oppose liberty and the rule of law, he does not oppose belief in God, he does not oppose family life etc.

Firstly I regard the entire voting process as overrated. But if we are to have the vote, how about having standards. We could even start with something as simple as a computerised, touch screen multiple choice test before you are permitted to place your vote. One that asks which personalities are the leaders of the top 5 parties, or who were the last 5 UK PM's for example. If you fail the test, scoring less than 80%, thank you for your time Mr or Mrs Bloggs, but you may not vote this time round.

Voting is a right, not something you have to earn.

I'm a Hitchens fan but he is wrong about fetishising the vote. A man in his position has nothing to lose but I have a lot to lose if extreme socialists of the British Labour Party gain power. What if a future Islamic party of Britain is close to power Peter - would you vote then?

He's against democracy, of course he'd be against the vote
