This is so profound and helpful. In the past I would fine-tune an idea before getting client feedback thinking that they are more likely to approve it if it looks finished. THEN the client gives me feedback and a new direction, and I've wasted hours. Validation step is critical.
Note for myself 1. Ask clients about their required designs in details 2. Come up with many ideas for your design 3. Listen to feedback 4. Always look for the opportunity to improve
I recently worked on a Human Centered Design project with +Accumen/Ideo and the process was 1. Inspiration 2. Ideation 3. Implementation. Very similar to the process you just described.
Love what you said about having a lot of ideas. I really agree with this concept! Exploring as many solutions to a problem before doing the work will SAVE so much time and effort. It helps find the BEST solution, rather than the first good one. Many solutions are possible, but the most easily communicated one is usually the best one! Thanks for re-enforcing these concepts, Ran!
How do you not get overwhelmed when finding inspiration and just stick to one thing? I get overwhelmed. How do you use the principles of design in your work?
It sounds like your filters are still off after Step 2. I'm hyper critical by nature, so my filters are always up by default. What I do is I turn my filters off, brainstorm for ideas, turn them back on to judge the ideas, develop a prototype, then turn them back off again so I can listen to feedback in step 3. And finally turn them back on again for the iteration in step 4. If your filters are always off by default, just start off like you normally would. Write down the ideas that come to you in step 2, so you have a copy of them later. Next, force yourself to focus on ranking the existing ideas in order from worst to best. This forces the brain into a critical mode. Always know what step of the process you're on and try to accomplish *just that step* in the easiest and fastest way possible. Moving back into the creative mode is hard for me, but John Cleese did a great video on how to do it using humor.
How do you communicate to the client about how much time will each phase take? Do have a set estimate for research time? Do you often get client to react: this must take loooong time?
Step 1 : understand what you’re trying to design . What the goal is , what they’re trying to achieve, the audience and the competition. Research + interviews.
Thank you!! I knew this but I didn't really recognise it as a process. Now I know how to tackle my design assignments. Thank you thank you and have a nice day
I'm finding it very hard to work with shapes on photopea. I cant make a shape then start another one, it keeps on making changes to the same current one, or sometimes the previous shape somehow disappears
Can you talk little bit about taxes in your country? Or what is balance between how much money you put on your invoice and how much will remain for you in the end? Thanks :)
For some reason, none of the design process videos are convincing. There are multiple projects that get initiated with clients omitting the user research phase. It hard to be convinced that this works when clients are too demanding on time and budget. It sounds good but hard to implement .... unless the clients respect design
Awesome video! Do you use lightning decision jam (shout-out to aj&smart)? I do one step before. I come up with ideas directly after I red about the task. After that I start to understand the real problem ahead. It quits my brain, so I can dig deeper into the needs of the customer after my 1st wave of ideas.
Lot of clients don't want to follow those processes for various reasons. How do you get the designs done then? How do you maintain quality without doing the processes? Do you still continue to go through the process even if you are sure about not getting paid for it?
If you develop a clear process it's better not to take on clients who clearly don't value thinking. Lots of clients don't want to follow process? Well, don't take on lots of clients. Take on the right ones. Do free work if you wanna do free work. Don't ever do discounted work without letting them know the full price. Always make them know how much you're worth by being clear.
What are the odds... I actually just finished and published an article last night exploring the exact same idea. medium.com/@_hush/design-thinking-an-approach-to-everything-8f35fae426f5 Though I kinda condensed the last two points into one and added a couple others aimed at students like myself. But the process is still quite similar.
No idea why you talking like this way now, where is your original voice. Why after getting fame people to change their voice tone? So frustrating nowadays to listen to you men, I really love your channel so please talk like you previously used to talk, not like some marketing guy who is too excited but all are fake, use your deep voice and do not get excited, just talk randomly.

The Design Process explained in 7 minutes!
Thanks for sharing this. CG artists often say the pipeline is the king. Haven’t really encountered designers paying attention to it too much.
My design process:
Start with an idea
Do all Details
get frustrated
start over
Note for myself
1. Ask clients about their required designs in details
2. Come up with many ideas for your design
3. Listen to feedback
4. Always look for the opportunity to improve
dont forget loop between 3 and 4

The process resembles an "adjustment" to the Design Thinking model. Thanks for the suggestions!

Awesome video, but can you tell how to do research if the client has a disruptive product and there is no information as such on the internet

InFluxers? What did you call me? 🧐haha! Thanks for the great content Ran. This stuff is fuel for me.
Here's my video about the design process. th-cam.com/video/Pun3iPgzgTE/w-d-xo.html I hope we can help one another improve!
great video (as always) :) is there any chance you could give me a rough idea of % of time you spend in each of these steps?
That really varies per project
Great Channel
Pensé que Candres se dedicaba al diseño también jajajja :D
