    Wow - right from the start, what clean, precise playing! Can’t wait to see where this is going! Strauss is great when it’s truly lucid.

      A crisp, clean, unsentimental approach is necessary in order to counteract the over-the-top Hollywood-style lushness to which Strauss' music often tends. Even Strauss himself admitted this. I think he was somewhat embarrassed by this tendency, and tried to make up for it by being matter-of-fact to a fault in his recordings, particularly of Mozart but also of his own works.

    Gerry Schwarz did some innovative performances and recordings early in his career. This being one example; the suite is well known but the full incidental music less so, this being the first complete recording.
