Now I know why Randy said "Just wait" when I told him I was glad he missed his eye in an earlier episode. Randy, I am very glad you are okay, I have a flat spot on my first finger where I slipped with a knife. They sewed it back on but as soon as it healed the piece of skin fell off. I was a LOT closer to the hospital and did not cut any veins, you are very quick thinking and lucky too! Great video, wonderful harvest of beautiful Morels. Thanks guys!!

Glad you found us! It is fine to take the stems if there’s no baby morels attached. If you’re harvesting M. americana aka north american yellow morels, the stems are often bigger and firm on that species. Plus they don’t grow in burns, so debris on the stem is less of a problem

I’m not asking about personal details, but how do you set up the money side of several people picking? Is it every man for himself. Does it go in a general pot? Does everyone sell to one person? Is it a co-op? Just a general idea. If you think this is something you would like to talk about??
Most of the time we split our dried mushrooms equally at the end of the season, which includes the person watching camp and drying them. That way we can comfortably be more thorough while out harvesting together.

Hey that’s still way more than I picked outside of the burn this year! We don’t get many yellows here because we mostly have coniferous forests here in BC. Yes it’s earliest we’ve seen for burn morels
Where do you get your baskets and your packs that you carry your baskets on ? Also. The fabric that you have to cover your buckets …. Did you make them or buy them ?
Baskets can be hard to come by. We get them by going in on full shipping container orders across seas. The pack I use is a Tatonka lastenkraxe, it has served me well. The bucket extenders we make ourselves.
Back in 85 I stuck a 3.5" pocket knife in my wrist trying to fix a water line in a hog barn,,,, buried it... Went to the emergency room and they put three stiches in it and sent me home, An hour later I had a baseball size protrusion on my wrist, I cut the artery and was bleeding out... Went back to the hospital and had emergency surgery... Bunch of idiots, I told them 20 times a buried a knife in my arm and they ignored me... should have sued them...
Damn! Glad you ended up healing up though. That’s why i originally started using the hand pruners for burn harvesting. Sliding around on greasy ash when you’re exhausted, with a sharp blade out caused me a number of injuries that could easily have been a lot worse if i hadn’t been lucky.
Nylon material works well. Unless you buy custom material and make it from scratch, the easiest option is to take an sleeping bag cover bag, or old gear bag and retro fit. Make sure its the right diameter to match the bucket, give it a wash then cut off the bottom and attach it with bank line around the rim of the bucket. Draw string at the top
They were just in better shape because they were more protected in the half burnt trees compared to the black areas. We do another grading pass once the season is over and those ones would go in the AAA stock 👍
Rubs the back of the knees too much. Have wanted to sew a custom pocket with foam insert onto pants so that there’s no straps. Over the years? Everything…Bears, moose, caribou, elk, deer, beavers, lynx, wolverine, cougar, many birds and the odd wild bushman (aka Randy)
Took me 3 years to find one study and when you find wait and keep looking from that one point it helps to understand what you see and don’t see every spot is different hang in there
