If renewable energy is supposed to be cheaper than fossil fuels, then why are electricity prices going up $200 + in QLD as of July1 ?

Alot of the energy still originates from coal based energy companies. So there could be alot of reasons. Transporting that raw coal to the coal based energy plant uses a tonne of fuel. The prices of which are fucking skyrocketing. There's the safety of the miners, maintenance costs, and higher taxes because as a country we promised to be more renewable.
At least with solar, and its one and done.

QLD happens to have one of the larger proportions of coal power iirc

Because renewables require the grid to change as generation profile has changed. The grid was not built for renewables. This adaptation towards renewables cost money, and likely this is what's passed on. It's the adaptation which is costing, not the generation.

most of the increases in QLD are due to significant coal and gas price increases due to the war in Ukraine, renewable energy only accounts for about 20% of QLD power generation, there are other factors but coal and gas prices are the main issue.

You know that you have to take in the fact that that you have to do the kick back to either political people or parties or maybe some public servants in a lot of Australia,I came across it about 30 years ago.
