Clementine Churchill, who spent the last few weeks leading up to VE Day on a goodwill tour of the European part of the USSR (she was actually in Moscow during the last week of that tour, including 8/9 May) saw Leningrad in April 1945. At the time, of course, it was a severely battered city that had lain under German gunfire and bombs for three years, many buildings and blocks were heavily damaged or empty, hundreds of thousands of civilians had perished, but Mrs Churchill had no problem seeing what a grand city it was, and would be again when rebuilt. In a private cable to Winston she exclaimed that "Leningrad is one of the most beautiful cities of the entire world!". She was not in error, of course. 👍

Hermosa ciudad con su arquitectura histórica esa ciudad no es más a simple vista que un reflejo de la cultura rusa hasta el momento con mezclas de modernización. It was filmed at night. In St. Petersburg, white nights come in the summer and it's light outside. Therefore, there are few cars. Everyone is asleep.
