      My son just got his blackbelt in TKD and I'm encouraging him to move to BJJ... but he's got friends in Judo right now, so... he'll get there though.

      Taekwondo and BJJ combine very well, especially with how unstable those kicks make you - learning how to wiggle on the ground is alot of help!

      The joy of Martial arts is learning them all, not choosing one or the other. Glad to see your comment, I am also a Taekwondo practitioner, but I need a good grappling art to master.

    Love Rener's personality. I know that jiu-jitsu is already popular in MMA circles, but this guy is the diplomat this art needs. Articulate and wonderful teacher. Fantastic enthusiasm and energy. This man was born to teach.

      @SmokeCloud Of course there is. You can make it yourself. The other option is a product called “Watermelon WTR” or something along those lines that is virtually pure watermelon juice.

  • @Mega_Mikey
    @Mega_Mikey 8 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    I wish people who are brand new to martial arts/jiujitsu/fighting could possibly realize and appreciate how smart, pragmatic, and effective this video and all of Rener's training videos are. This is truly top-level stuff for all around self-defense on the street, better than anything else out there. If you follow the Gracie philosophy and techniques, you will always put yourself in a position to have the highest likelihood of a best-case final outcome in any altercation. Plus if you think about all Rener does for police training around the world which is EXTREMELY beneficial for both police and citizens....There's a word to describe Rener but I can't think of it.

    • @gabewatson3680
      @gabewatson3680 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll agree with about 90% of what you said the only problem is if you do get in a street fight and the person has friends as soon as you go down stomping starts.

      Gabe Watson
      Why does everyone bring this up, like people who do jiu-jitsu are blind morons who think they are invincible...c'mon man. What if it's one guy and he has a knife? Guess what you grapple him you're gonna die. It doesn't make a difference. Having these skills is extremely beneficial in any altercation. Until you've trained in it you can't really say I'm wrong.

    • @gabewatson3680
      @gabewatson3680 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @iansinclair6256
      @iansinclair6256 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They bring it ip Omglosser, because this stuff actually happens outside of the match fights you often see in the "youtube" examples. Not saying BJJ doesn't work, but it is something that we all have to think about when we train in martial arts. There are pro's and con's in all arts and BJJ is not to great against multiple attackers generally. That's why you learn other things as a martial artist. I spent most of my training in striking arts, and then realized while striking is very effective for self defence, there is also a need for sound grappling skills too. Objectively BJJ does have its drawbacks like every other specialised art.

    • @iansinclair6256
      @iansinclair6256 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And Joey, admitting BJJ is not the be all and end all, and that there are genuine things being mentioned, shows humility. Trying to suggest these people are talking out of their asses because you favour your style, shows you haven't had your ass handed to you in real multiple situations before and not been beaten down badly. Being on the ground against more than one person is unsafe to say the least. Its important to keep a balanced perspective when dealing with self defence. Same would go for strikers who think they dont need grappling skills. Fine and effective until some big jerk takes you to the ground and starts beating on you, because you have no skills there.

    I was young in the 80's / 90's. At this time many jiujitsu practitioners were very violent and assaulted people for pleasure. It was a serious problem in Brazil. Violence greatly encouraged by academies, including Gracie.
    I hated anyone who practiced jiu-jitsu, judged them almost bandits.
    I have been reading and watching videos like this and I understand it is not only violence, there are many positive aspects of self esteem, health and discipline. Very different from my point of view.
    I no longer feel angry neither affraid when I see a young man wearing a kimono walking on the streets. Jiu Jistsu practitioners have changed a lot their behavior since 1990 when the so called pitboys had spread violence and fear.
    Best regards from Brazil, Great video.

The Gracies are true heroes and their system is excellent.

      Just learn the moves by watching TH-cam. Watch as many BJJ basics videos as you can and add them to your channel. Drill the moves 50 times each day. Watch the same video over and over and over until it is drilled into your head. At work drill the moves over and over inside your head. Start with the basics. Then move on to the intermediate. Also buy BJJ instructional videos. Watch them everyday drill every day. Do this until you get you money for classes. Good luck

    He's right though, what someone else says should mean nothing to you at all if you have good self-esteem. Why would you care if someone calls you a "bitch" or whatever? Do you care if a 5 year old says it to you? No because they are nobody to you. I feel the same way about other adults. If someone wants to talk shit then their opinion means nothing to me. If they put their hands on me its different but words? Come on.

    What I like about Rener's lessons is that he keeps the 'self-defense' mindset when explaining and teaching. Too much of the jiujitsu taught these days is pure sport jiujitsu. If you guys haven't checked out his "Gracie Comabtives" instructional, do yourself a favour and check it.
