The Monsterverse kicked off back in 2014 with Godzilla and was followed up by Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters-- all of which were leading up to a big showdown in Godzilla vs. Kong. Well, the movie where the big monkey punches the big reptile is finally here.
Godzilla vs. Kong definitely raises some questions though. Like how did technology become straight-up magic in the past few years? How did Jia secretly teach sign language to a giant monkey that was under constant supervision? What’s the point of the Millie Bobby Brown storyline? What’s up with that weird wormhole? Why is no one affected by the literal GLOWING radiation around them? Did Godzilla just chuckle?

I knew that you was joking before [I've overthinking tho], but script-writing is really hard especially on big budget movies because it should match with directors's visions while keep it [possible to produce, reasonable to audiences, interesting to watch].
"so Mecha-godzilla is gonna be controlled by the ghost of Ghidorah or something, I don't care!" that part killed me
I was waiting for when he uses that again. The 'I don't care's in the Super Mario PM make it one of the best PM.
It was most likely actually A.I., Ghidora would require at least some flesh to control mecha-Godzilla
@@ashofnichols7614 I interpreted it as a mix up between A.I., the guy being electrocuted and some leftover brainwaves from Ghidorah since well, Ghidorah is an alien with immense regeneration so god knows what else he is capable of.

@@ashofnichols7614 Yeah, Bernie (the conspiracy nut) said that the pilot (Ren) would be cybernetically linked into the neural pathways of one of Ghidorah’s heads (Kevin), which was telepathically linked to the other head (where ever that came from) in Mechagodzilla, which is linked similarly to the AI controlling the robot. Something about Apex taking advantage of Ghidorah’s regenerative abilities where tossed in there too, but I don’t remember the how.
San (or Kevin) was the name for the head that Godzilla tore off of Ghidorah in there ocean fight, which was recovered mostly intact by some fisher boat and was bought by Tywin (don’t remember his name) in the post credit scene in KotM. So yeah, they would have some organic material to work with beyond bone.
I laughed so hard when Kong magically climbed 2,100 miles up through a hole to the center of the Earth in less than a minute... Kong is the freaking Flash.

Realistically because that's super long flight and fuel would be a major issue. When they finally airlifted Kong they were almost to Antarctica.

I dunno why they didn't just use Ghidorah's brain instead of just its hollow skull. That would've explained the telepathy better, and also Ghidorah hijacking Mechagodzilla would make total sense.

I gotta say, I watch a lot of TH-cam, mainly for the learning diy things but Ryan doing this Screen Rant for almost any movie is simply magical.
Maybe once, he does a movie that has almost zero plot holes and is virtually perfection; the Financier Ryan gets all weird because there aren’t any plot holes and the Pitching Ryan tells him to get all the way off his back about pitching a perfect movie or something.
Regardless, these Pitch Meetings will be legendary, if they aren’t already.

I'm surprised they never mention that Godzilla is supposed to be much, much larger than King Kong. King Kong climbed up the Empire State Building. Godzilla is about as tall as the Empire State Building.

I'm a huge Godzilla fan, always have been since I was a kid, but I did have to attempt to shut my brain off while watching this. I still enjoyed it, but some of the stuff you brought up drove me insane.
The least realistic aspect of this film was people kept referring to Kong as a monkey and none of the biologists corrected them. I grew up in a family of biologists, that is NOT possible.

Yes. It did actually, saw it in cinemas here, as long as you shut off the parts of your brain that deal with physics, distance and consistent scale.
The set pieces were frequent, well lit, sensibly shot and coherent.

@@MGmirkin I'm not saying there has to be an allegory. But that doesn't mean the movie should be completely devoid of logic. Also in one of the early Godzilla movies, I don't remember which one, we can see the wreckage that a giant walking-monster leaves behind on the city and it's people. There was even this one guy who built houses and was thrilled to see the city destroyed, because it meant more houses and more money for him.
I would say that's a pretty good message for a monster movie. Not just watching two giants fight, destroy a whole city and its people and probably half the planet before they're banished somewhere, and all you get is "monster-fight and team-work is dope."

This clicked for me right near the end when the girl was saying he wasn't an enemy!
That’s simple. Kong can see what’s happening on-screen whilst Godzilla can’t.
Kong's eyes have subtitles built-in, which includes sign-language.
It never ceases to amaze me how you pinpoint every plot hole I notice, then a couple of extra. At this point, you're just my internal monologue in retrospect.

I’m so glad somebody pointed the wormhole that seemed to just disappear after a while 😂
I figured they just took the wormhole back up, no need to show it when we know that's how traveling back and forth to the Hollow Earth works. Helps explain how Godzilla's atomic breath got so far and how Kong got back so fast too.
The wormhole was there so they could do a quick homage to 2001.

There was something about the scaling of the monsters in different scenes that just felt off to me. For example, when godzilla was stood on the air carrier fighting kong and both looked similar heights (I know they beefed kong up from the other films) but in later fight scenes kong seems to have been scaled back down

Fun fact: Defibrilators don't re-start hearts, they're there to stop it and cause a flat line in case of ventricular fibrillation because that significantly raises the chances of cpr being successful, so that ship thing makes even less sense lol
That's only sort of true. They don't restart hearts but CPR also doesn't restart the heart. Defibrillators flatline the heart in hopes that the nerves sending the signals to pulse can start it going correctly again. Basically it's freaking out and they make it pause for a second to straighten out

Ahh, I see. I must have missed the part where it said they practiced it with him. I just thought he learned by watching the woman and the girl talking to each other, like how kids learn by watching their parents.

Glad I wasn’t the only one to think the humans building a giant mech to defend themselves was totally reasonable. I’m sure “I don’t care” was said A LOT in the real pitch meeting too.
Pretty sure the evil part was that he would solely control said mech and that he seemed more than ready to sacrifice human lives in the process. Even if he had good intentions, he created a drone super-weapon using a power source he admittedly didn't fully understand. And his quest to build said mech is what caused Godzilla to rampage to begin with, cause the exact problem he was trying to solve. I guess what I'm saying is that he was at least grossly negligent.
