No. The Premier league was more physical. You had tackles and aggressive players like this in every team, in every game. Now the Premier league got soft and slow too, nothing like in the 90s and 00s.
The difference was the refereeing, back in the day Italian referees were more lenient unlike the English officials. Ofcourse, there was tough physical games in both the leagues.

Those that you saw in serie A back in 90s, the days you got 1 or 2 of these fouls and if you ever complains to the ref, the ref will ask you to shutup and getup, and if you roll on ground like freaking donut, the manager probably gonna bench you for the next half season.
