The originals definitely look like there's cording not stuffing on the inside, though. Trapunto was definitely a technique in the time period, but the ones I was looking at were definitely cord. I did see one or two trapunto ones, though. It may have looked better on mine since I made the channels too wide for cord. Stuffing would have looked better.

I am absolutely sure there is no one “right way” to do this! There were probably almost as many variations as there were women making them!
That is true! There were definitely better ways to do the second cap, but it still turned out okay.
