Yes it's like real life, but the timing has to be careful, otherwise the mentioner gets ejected from the meeting and cancelled forever. The knack to getting a silly organisation to delete a project or position statement or itself is "reading the room", so as to time the proposal when most people realise it is silly but haven't dared to defy the consensus. I like this sketch because it mentions my home county, Staffordshire, which normally doesn't get much press. I can confirm that we are not big on puttings things on top of other things; we find it silly. Even putting jam on toast is discouraged.

Personally, I cannot imagine anything more err... "thingy" than the Earth!
Mr Bigbotty, I say, maybe you just made the unfortunate decision of acquiring the wrong model? I have been putting things on top of other things for years, and by means of pursuing this little passion of mine I have also bought a “cat”. And I really must say that it has been a tremendous success. The potential drawback of the "cat" however, is that while it likes to be put and put itself on top of other things. It also has a tendency to enjoy being IN things or under things. Which I fear is the antithesis of the whole Society.

After I retired over 15 years ago I would have nightmares of being in meetings that I couldn't leave, that accomplished nothing and mostly talked about more meetings. I still have them on occasions. The worst part of all of these interminable meetings meant that I would have to work on my own time to actually accomplish the tasks assigned to me. Scream.
I quit attending meetings, and was told I had to attend. So I told my boss that my attendance was completely unnecessary, since all the decisions had already been made, nobody cared what the staff told management, and I was not going to waste my life in another useless staff meeting, even though I was being paid. Since it was for a 911 Center (999 in the UK) I fully expected to be suspended. Ironically absolutely nothing happened to me, and after a few people found out what I did, they also stopped attending, and ultimately the meetings were cancelled for about 3 years(!)
Exactly, my experiences were groaning as I counted the additional hours I would have to personally spend with each hollow gasp out of every speakers moutth

But on the other hand, I understand that not everyone has the same options as their circumstances are different, and so they might face unreasonable challenges. So, what I would suggest they should've done, was simply make a merger with the Society For Putting Things Next To Each Other - that way they wouldn't have things out of order just because it's bloody difficult to put puddings on top of pyramids, or jellyfish on top of flagpoles, and thus they could've continued on for a very long time.

Monty Python's mantra; it doesn't matter how nonsensical something sounds, just run with it and it becomes comedy gold. Until it becomes too silly, of course.
I have been told by a few friends in academia in both arts and science that they have at least two meetings with faculty members that are exactly like this. ...most of then profoundly damaging, I'm sure. I lost my patience at one job, and told management I would no longer attend meetings in which all the decisions had already been made by people that had no idea what they were doing, while ignoring us in the trenches who did. For some reason they never disciplined me, and at least two more people stopped attending the meetings, which were later done away with. It's the small victories that keep me from jumping out the window to this day.

Good night, a ding ding ding
Yeah "being there"..
wouldn't that be great name for a movie?
@Mark H. I hope someone said, "meeting adjourned forever!" 😂
At the end of last meeting I attended, they asked if anyone had anything to add, or any suggestions....
I suggested we have no more meetings! 😁
Exactly, my experiences were groaning as I counted the additional hours I would have to personally spend with each hollow gasp out of every speakers moutth
Sometimes I simply marvel at Graham’s ability to keep a straight face. I swear there are times when you can aaaaalmost see him about to break and smile, but no…
I'm personally MORTIFIED that they made no REFERENCE AT ALL to their sister group, the Royal Society for Putting Things UNDER Other Things.
i will be writing to the papers about this - I have put it on the top of my to-do list ......
Oh Damn!!!
Well done that chap.
Fuz Capp are you saying it’s important to put your women’s things under your mans things ?
I prefer the organization Im a part of: The Royal Society for Putting Things INSIDE Other Things. It saves space whilst technically accomplishing the same goals as the other two societies.
They also didn’t reference my favored group, The Royal Society for Putting Things Aside. I would complain but that would require a bit of work, one of my favorite things to put aside!
Why was this video on top of all other videos on my list of recommended videos?
The society put it there.

It took 9 years for youtube algorithm to put this video thing ON TOP OF OTHER THINGS in my recommendation list.

Personally, I think it was a bit rash to simply decide that this whole thing is a bit silly, just because some members maybe didn't have the same sense of dedication and love of traditions as the rest of the Society For Putting Things On Top Of Other Things.
Heresy! Sheer heresy! 😤

As I live in cold Canada,I double up and wear a coat on top of a sweater on top of me. I could go on and on.
My father taught me to always respect things that are on top of other things.
As a person living in The Netherlands, I am proud to say we saw the silliness of putting things on top of other things pretty early on, and managed to not put anything on top of us. We even put a small line of islands above ( _not_ on top of ) us, to make sure no one else would feel any inclination to put anything on top of us.
