- This tongue-in-cheek animated short serves as a cautionary tale against the hazards of fire. Early humans were given the gift of fire, but warned against the dangers, warnings that eventually fell by the wayside. In modern society, overloaded electrical sockets, smouldering cigarettes and other dangers lay around every corner, posing possible threats to life and property.

I love this idea of adam and eve in the ice age, and the serpent just being some casual guy.
"Cream? Where's the cream?" LOL
6:51 “Where’s the cream?”
The cat might look funky but his dialog is spot on.
lol
Narrator: In the end, all was chaos and fire. The gods were angry......again.
(gods talking to each other)
God: The next time, we give the fire to the woman!
Then we have to be reminded of The Cult's song; "Firewoman! You're to blame!"
6:11- "Oh Poopsie..."
"Stop calling me Poopsie!"
STOP CALLING ME POOPSIE!!
See, now I'm doing it, too...

"THE NEXT TIME... we give the fire to the woman." That's my favorite line in the whole episode. I would certainly trust my girlfriend with fire than myself any day.
"The next time, we give the fire to the woman" 😂😂😂
Ah, I gotta go wash the rock.
I saw this cartoon in my 3rd grade class in 1973 with a real fire man doing a lecture on fire related safety tips showing a series of four, 16 millimeter projector films on fire safety . the other films were quite boring and forgettable but Hot Stuff was played last. It was funny as hell. In the 1980's It was frequently played on Pay TV First Choice Super Channel as an intermission short between featured movies. until recently I assumed this film was lost media.
STOP CALLING ME POOPSIE
Absolutely! I remember seeing it on Super Channel in the "80's, but my earliest memory of it is from when I was a kid in the "70's.
"COME ON TOAST!!!!" - sooo classic & relatable. Great work by NFB,
I’ve been looking for this for years
Whenever I make coffee I have the cat voice in my head "Cream? Can I get some cream?" XD Love seeing retro NFB clips... fond childhood memories.
Brilliant! I love NFB animation...mouse flambeau!!
8:28 ...mouse flambeau!!
@@TheLookyus you can see just a second after that, how the fire licks its mouth just like the cat does. Pretty funny detail
I did a search for “fire safety cartoon” trying to find this and came back with thousands of hits. I refined it as “Canadian fire safety cartoon” and this was the top hit.
This still holds up today. Reminds me when I was a kid.
When the snake says he didn't like Miami, instantly it reminded me of a typical Winnipegger.
I remembered watching this when I was little, but I was never able to remember this cartoon until just now! Thanks for posting this up!
Used to play this to UK kids in school in the '80's on VHS. They loved it when he kisses the fire!
Ten years later we had a fire in our front room. We left a candle unattended on the TV, the room filled with thick black smoke as the TV burned. A smoke alarm went off, I went in with a bin of water and put it out - I was good at holding my breath. We had only just been given the smoke alarm two weeks earlier.
that's very cool
this is one of my all-time favourites!
"Where's the butter...DEAR??"
7:02 It’s right here by the cream
brings back a lot of memories from childhood.

I remember watching this on the Great Space Coaster....the man in the second half in the cartoon reminds me of my grandpa, except he took care of his pet
I remember this animation and, Man,it's one of my favorites!!!😌❤👍
Don't argue too much, be carelesss with plugs, and stick a fork in a toaster, or else fire elementals will consume and undo all of creation, with nobody able to stop them!
I first saw this cute little film on 'The Great Space Coaster,' probably about 1981 or 1982. Still funny. I remember feeling sorry for the poor cat who didn't get anything.
And the gods blame it on one god that give man, fire. Prometheus!
@Okami Jubei
:
Once the cat is out of the bag, there is no one who can catch it to put it back in again, Prometheus least of all hehehehehehe
Saw this on the Saturday morning kids show "Curiosity Shop" back in 1971, and I've remembered it ever since.
I remember this! Saw these cartoons as a kid. 36 now.

I've never heard of this purple snake when it got just the same as Ovide and the Gang's Cy's cousin.
Best snake voice, ever!

Damn dude, what the toaster done to you?
I remember about this in high school
I remember this one I also remember another one that I watched at school. I remember a boy making a science experiment and he dumps this green stuff into a river and it goes on a journey. I remember the green stuff becoming rain and snow and the next year it comes back to the little boy I when he turns on the hose for water to add to his swimming pool. What was this one called?

Thumbs up for the funny cartoon style. No interest in the story.
