    WOLF winders are top quality, and you are absolutely right to point out how quiet they are….which is not necessarily the case with other winders.

    I have always used Swiss Kubik which was used by Rolex until they went to in house branded. I bought a Wolf Savoy, programmable set in 50 TPD increments. The only advantage of Wolf is a the watch holder that has a foam cushion that can accommodate NATO strap that Swiss Kubik could not. However, the Swiss Kubiks are blue tooth programmable at single digit TPD, and, MUCH smaller. I was shocked by the size of the Wolf winder. So big, that I called it theft proof. No one will steal it due to shear size. Having said that, Swiss Kubiks are more expensive but I think that the smaller size, real leather, blue tooth capability justifies the cost. Swiss Kubiks run from $895 to $1,005 for fully programable with hinged glass cover. One C battery will run it for 3 years but recommend swapping battery out every year to prevent damage from a leaking battery.

    Ive got my first special watch, an Omaha Seamaster Planet Ocean 600, absolutely love it.
    I got this winder for free with my purchase. It's a great tool to have first off. Working 12 hour night shifts all week in a chemical plant, Im certainly not wearing my watch all week. So I needed a winder, but wanted one of these due to reviews and ease of use.
    Many suggest allowing the watch to wind fully down. I ask why.
    It's going to cost the price of service etc if it's kept fully wound or if it's allowed to wind down.
    The Calibre 8900 movement on my watch suggests 720 Turns Per Day bi directional. So Ive set it to bi-directional and 350 Turns Per Day. Is this correct as I've been advised bi directional is double. Thank you.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes if you set it to bi-directional 350 it will spin 350 rotations in both directions, or a total of 700 rotations.

    Guy I was given a Wolf M2-1 Heritage 270302 from Amazon last Christmas, it works great however it has always has a mildew like smell
    about it. I’ve tried everything to dissipate this odor. I didn’t have the original packing and receipt so I’m kind of stuck with a devise that I seldom
    Use. 😢

      That’s annoying. No issues like that on this one. I’d give Wolf a call and see if they can help.

    Wolf winders aren't top quality. After two years of use, the LCD and control module went out and they denied to honor any warranty + no pre-paid label. I was so mad and decided to tear it down. The walls of the winders are just thick paper covered with faux leather. Many plastics inside. Honestly it was a well wrapped garbage. Never get their winder again.

    I find it annoying that this watch winder does not stop the orientation of the watch at the 12 o' clock position during rest periods. It drives me absolutely nuts! Any recommendations on a watch winder that has less this option with a configuration option of less than 650TPD?

      I don’t recall if that happened on this one. I’d shoot Wolf an email to their customer support to be sure.

      600 tpd a day, should you set it at 300 or 600 if using bi directional setting? If set to 600 will it give a total tpd of 1200?

    I can see the usefulness for a watch that is NOT worn each day, AND does not have hand-winding, AND has a day+date complication. Otherwise, it takes what, 30 seconds to wind and set? I'd rather my automatic mechanicals wind all the way down and "rest" and periodically reset them, than I would to put them on a winder, but that's just me.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching Dan. You definitely don't need to keep those easy to set watches wound all the time. But there are some watches that I'd like to have one a winder.

      Dan T.
      when watches works (at your wrist or at winder), they are every time wearing down. So why to wear down them when they not work at your wrist - self winding at today watches are so effective, just few gentle shakes and watches are rady to go. If you like your watch, you will no use those gigdgets like winders :)
      Have a nice day both guys :)

      Your watch, your money. If you want you can ruin them and wear down them much faster. :) Have a nice day.

    Never wanted a watch winder, it just seems like a device to add extra wear and tear on your watches.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve heard so many people on both sides of the argument about whether it puts more wear on the watch/Movement. I honestly don’t think it matters. But I don’t know.

      @@JustBlueFish I'll help you. An automatic watch has a certain type of mainspring designed with a tongue that slips around the inside of the barrel. This is so that when the watch is fully wound the mainspring slips around the barrel. This is so that the rotor can continue to spin, otherwise it would be jammed and could cause damage to the auto-winding gear if shocked. In normal use on the wrist this 'slip' of the spring inside the barrel may happen a few times a day. It's designed to do this and service intervals are based on daily, on the wrist usage. Using a watch winder incorrectly can lead to the watch being fully wound for hours, during these hours the mainspring is continually being slipped around the barrel. The spring and barrel are lubricated. This constant slipping degrades the oil. Once the oil is degraded the slipping causes metal erosion and the oil becomes a grinding paste accelerating the wear. This can lead in extreme cases... if you keep the watch on the winder.. to the tongue on the spring snapping, or not engaging with its keeper whilst the watch is fully wound. This snapping force can cause damage to the wheel train. If the spring tongue doesn't snap... the oil/metal paste can get into the barrel arbour and cause it to wear, this can cause the barrel to 'tilt' in its bearing.. this causes more wear, and the 'tilt' can cause wear through friction to the base plate and barrel bridge. Many automatic rolexes have very few weaknesses, but one is the rotor post which can wear. Using a watch winder with one of these models can cause rotor post wear. If not spotted this can lead to the post wearing, the rotor now no longer runs true. The now 'out of true' rotor can now come into contact with the movement plate or back case of the watch and cause unsightly damage. Rolex routinely replace the rotor post because of this wear. So in conclusion.. if you are going to routinely use a watch winder be careful. Continued rotation when the watch is fully wound can put you in a world of pain. Many users won't be aware and will just put the watch on the winder 24/7.

      @@stevewilliams5428 Waow you sound like someone who knows his stuff. Would you recommend these winders even if I am planning to always use it's lowest setting? I have two automatic watches. One has 54hrs (on paper) power reserve (dress watch) and my diver has 72hr pr. My diver is fine but I am tired of winding/checking/setting my dress watch after 2-3 days... I think once or twice a week cannot hurt ... Am I mistaken?
