I will never forget how my addiction to this song gave me a good result in class. I was 12 when our teacher asked us to write a literary piece, something about the world, and add some tune. May it be original or from an existing song. So I used Royals' tune. I sang it in class. It perfectly suit my written piece and received a good compliment from my teacher. HAHAHA. JustSharing.

this music video just describes how teenagers have changed so much than before, and i really love how she showed that most teenagers suffer with mental illnesses and loneliness, she just put so much effort in this video.

My favourite modern artist I remember hearing song constantly on the radio when I was little, it’s so nostalgic to me. Not to mention, it’s got a good message!
@@joeypierantonis7576 what are you implying? Nostalgia means a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy and *personal* associations. So basically this song was released some years ago, and listening to this makes me remember happy memories during that period of time. So what you just said made no sense to me.
I used to hear this song a lot on tv back when I didn't understand a lot of english, now I understand the meaning of the song, and I love it. Enjoying the simple life.
I absolutely adore the way Lorde has made it so big in the pop industry, yet her videos are so truly artistic. It's just so sad that so few people viewing this will understand how truly brilliant it is. But film enthusiasts will get it.
Lorde's my inspiration in life. Despite being a 45 year old geologist which would seem out of touch with the modern world, she still pursues a music career, and is very open minded and a great role model! :)
I first paid attention to this song when my granddaughters were singing along to it on the radio. They knew every word. I gotta admit, it sounded better than the crap being played on the pop stations at the time. I asked them who is the singer. They said it was Lorde...I remember I replied, shaking my head, "Jesus"...😂...but seriously, I couldn't believe a sixteen year girl was singing it. The lyrics were deep.
Escutava essa jóia quando era criança, que nostalgia!!! 🔥💯 Contínua a mesma perfeição, todas as vezes que escuto pareçe ser pela primeira vez ❤ Quem mais está ouvindo? 💖
Very nice to see a song in the charts where the lyrics actually have an insightful meaning and observation to life, used to happen often once. Also congrats on the Voafone Awards - Thanks from a proud fellow Kiwi
i remember when i randomly started singing this in class because someone accidently snapped the beat with their fingers and almost the whole class joined in. My teacher was so confused - i'll never forget this - (Edit: damn y’all need to chill😭✋🏽 it actually happened- this song was everywhere at that time- we were singing for only like 20 secs and moved on with class afterwards but it’s still such a great memory pls don’t ruin it for me-thank you, have a great day n’ stay safe y’all)
Ok, honestly I re-discovered this song, several years after hearing it, because I was watching South Park. Had never seen the video before now. But I LOVE it. I can relate so much more than I could when I heard this on the radio years ago. Lovelovelove this. ❤❤❤

"a lot of people think teenagers live in this world like 'skins' every weekend or whatever, but truth is, half the time we aren't doing anything cooler than playing with lighters, or waiting at some shitty stop." I'm getting to the point where society considers me old but I've always been perplexed by the romanticization of youth in society, because when I was a teenager and I would hear older people remark how great it must be, I was like "LOL, I have no car , no money and no work experience and have no f'ing idea how to get any of it". If we were really lucky, my friend and I could find enough change in the couch cushions and the washing machine to make a late night run in his car that had a milk carton for a passenger seat, to Denny's to buy an appetizer to share. That was the climax of our coolness.
baby boomers hold this peculiar envy toward us millennium machines of humans, I love how Bobby Moynihan actually portrays “drunk uncle” at thanksgiving dinner (and because SNL is my childhood melancholic seCret pleasure). They are such greedy, crotchety and all around jaded people who like to look down on us for our gifted technological (dis)abilities. I say all of this as I’m commenting on my 56-year old adoptive father’s iPad lmao, but my overly extended metaphor just directs us to the point that we Y2K kids are kind of like superhuman robots taking away the job force. Like come on you old “con”servative bastards, we get that you like Trump, but fuck that dude who thinks that you can tame a woman by grabbing her “by the pussy”. As an 18 year old woman I was hoping to vote in our nation’s primary midterm election this year (AND FOR A WOMAN FOr FUCKS SAKE besides that crazy old epileptic bat Hillary she would croak a few days in litigation of senate). I vote HARPO WINFREY FOR THE WIN. I’m just a female version of Josh Peck
Great song it's honestly real as fuck the artist is like dissing every mainstream shit and she actually got her real music on the radio I fucking love it . Her voice has all the attention the beat is simple
It takes natural talent to write songs like this at any age let alone as a kid. Don Mclean wrote Vincent at age 26 and Loggins wrote Danny's Song at 23. Lord took it to a new level with this one.
Before you say that this song sucks or that its about how she just wants to be queen or something, take a minute listen to the lyrics. The lyrics directly critizises the pop-music industry. That most popular songs are unrelatable because they're about luxury and fame and that most people isn't famous or that rich. Peace out and enjoy this masterpiece!
the fact that there is in one video SUCH A NUMBER of easter eggs drives me crazy like yeah Lorde shake that ass omg - we can hear at the beggining the theme of Biting Down - all the guys in the video have a buzzcut, it refers then to Buzzcut Season. we can also notice some scenes with a pool. it refers too to Buzzcut Season (so we live beside the pool, where everything is good). - the scene where the boy looks in the mirror at his bloody teeth can be an easter egg of White Teeth Teens. - at the end of the video there is a tennis court and the "yeah!" from Tennis Court.
Thanks so much for the personal message you left for us in the information section. What we need more than anything right now is to know we are not alone. You are a great role model-especially for young women-and you are a beautiful inspiration to us all. Thank you for that and for sharing your exquisite art with us.

This song was always on the radio on the bus to my old elementary school. I feel like I'm back on that bus, watching the boys toss footballs and the girls screaming about random things. I used to love this song. It's still great to this day 😤👌👌
***** Maybe if you think outside the square head you are in. Cut her teeth may mean learning about life. Wedding rings about love. God, are you that moronic that you can't work that out. Idiot.
For most of the song yeah, it really isn't that much except the drums and singing. It's really cool how she made such an awesome song with such little, but during the chorus there is harmony. Just by adding the bass, (I think there also might be a pitched drum) it adds harmony by contrasting with what she is singing, 2 notes is enough to add harmonic movement. I actually think it's interesting that this is what she chose to do, because I think it's actually a very clever and fitting artistic choice, think about it. The song is about living a simple, care free and minimalistic lifestyle. I think that's the point of the music, there isn't that much to it, but it's enough to make people enjoy it :)
Dago Raul Aguirre Godoy there was no need for that. I was praising her for it. You should be more careful with the things you say to others on the internet. That was very unkind and rude of you. Was it really necessary to say such hurtful things on a comment that wasn’t negative at all?
As if? LAUGHS..........WOW Lorde I think you are fooking BRILLIANT....I've listened to this song about a billion times and I just turned 50 in October of 2020. I'm as iffing about the comments I read, this is the first time I noticed you yourself actually commented and you are BRILLIANT!!!! I knew you were young and I never researched why or how this song came to be because I lived that when I was your age or some such stuff and I'm actually a TRUE "Royal blueblood "american"" Ma family is from British Royalty and I've no claims on anything other then proving ma roots because I ADORE England and ma family still owns Knebworth House in England.......will be a bit before I prove it and it's not something I want to prove because I think I'm better than anyone else I literally have posted this on the site I chat on many diff times for many different reasons most that would make you roll your eyes at how childish "older adults still are" ...this woman is like "wire royalty" (the site) I post this all the time saying I'm really royalty and a few min ago I said...I dun have to be "wire site royalty I'm really descended from Royal's but I'll always be "Kimber from the block" ...The racing thoughts you have I've always had as well ma best advice is keep on writing and singing AND DANCE and keep enjoying your TRUE friends because TRUE friends are HARD TO find ! I am SO happy to "meet" you and see your own heartfelt words without a song.......Thank you..you seriously have an impact on ma personal life with this song ta to all your friends ma you all stay safe and always be true to yourselves and each other....Much Love! Kimber
BEST SONG EVER! :D but everyone knows that it will go away then no one will remember her and that is what happens to EVERY singer/rapper. But most of the people that have been forgotten are really good!
I still remember when this song was released, I always sing it as the lyrics is so relatable. good old days. until this day, this song is still one of the best songs. this song is gold

If you like minimalist music it's out there. Westerman is a good British artist who does this style. "Confirmation" was his biggest debut, its a stripped back, complex and emotive song. But most of his stuff is fantastic tbh. Sometimes the unecessary fluff is detrimental and the message of the song is less impactful... It definitely takes a good producer to know what you can afford to lose. This is a mainstream song that went this route and is why it's still holding up. Love it.
i cant stand the music that are out there today like on the radio and the billboards. usually a Metal, Rock, Classic, Jazz kinda guy. but i have been taking a real liking to Lorde! she is amazing. She is not just another brick in the wall in today's music scene.
Jazz? da faq dude classic? mindblown! please! she has "something" new but please don't tell me that she's an innovator, don't compare with CLASSICS (not only Chopin, included rock classic: Pink Floyd?) or Jazz (what kind of crap did you call Jazz now?) so, I know that this is a good critic from your part to her, but express yourself right about the "kind" of music that sounds now (actually the most of them crap).
Precisely, she's got a classically trained voice (at 16 I doubt she's had training) a truly natural gift! And she writes all of her own lyrics, which are outstanding! And the beat and small band sound are all very catchy! :) -- She most likely will be going places! -- As long as she is not too wooed by the $$$ and changes her style too much! :)
Lupita J.A. just because i like classical music (or any other music for that matter) doesn't mean i am comparing her to any legendary artists in that particular genre. i am not really a fan of any music out there today. not the popular ones or "big" artist that gets played over and over and over. And she WRITES her own songs! is that too much to ask from an artist? This girl has impressed me. i didn't say she was innovative btw, i said she was unique and not like the other stuff that is out there. and btw, who does not love some smooth jazz? when referring to jazz i was more referring to "jazzy" rock bands kind of stuff.
Still a great song, and I only got into Lorde's music since last year with her Solar Power album, and this is still One of Lorde's Best Songs. I still listen to all the Rock genres, and Metal music, but I really enjoy listening to Lorde's music. She's a Fantastic singer.
I Love the fact that Lorde is just like me and most normal teenagers, I think she is the best new Artist out there having ago at the fake and corporation run artists she is Urban as it gets she is my Kind of women!
she is, im 35 i love her and her message to the teens and the fake and corp. run artist also....she speaks what i knew in my late teens early twenties and what me and my friends did n knew back then, hate the new rappers whatever n the stuff she says they sing about exactly who cares....lol
The first time I heard this was blasting over a valley in BC. Vince had absolutely massive speakers, and we used every spare watt of power. Some Indy station was playing it six months before anyone else.
Came back to this song after watching 73 questions of Lorde from Vogue 😇 This song is bringing me back to 2013 while I was studying abroad.. such an amazing time!
I was young when this song came out and still am but I would cry because it would remind me of my grandpa that passed away and I would hear this song around the same time
Sis wasnt even a senior in high school/ year 12 Secondary School when she wrote this....

I so wish we got to do that

Like myself.
this music video just describes how teenagers have changed so much than before, and i really love how she showed that most teenagers suffer with mental illnesses and loneliness, she just put so much effort in this video.
Also this song and video teases many of the songs of "pure heroine"
Teenagers just waiting to be sucked into the mind control trap of modern society. 'Mental illness' is just your instincts fighting back.
10 years of royals and wow this song CHANGED the world (literally), reading the description feels like an email she send us sometimes lol i love this girl so much thanks for being so special, ella xx
What is the difference between this one and the US version. Can someone please tell me??
That was my question too.

I remember hearing song constantly on the radio when I was little, it’s so nostalgic to me. Not to mention, it’s got a good message!
I like- no- I *love* how everyone just decided to listen to nostalgic music while on quarantine.
nostalgic? WTF? oh you werent born yet! sothe doors are beethOVEN. AND BEETHOVEN WERNT MADE YET CUZ GOD wasnt born. man time flies.
cool joint? when the album drop? love that Bille del RAY RAY dude.

THIS SONG NEVER GETS OLD!! 💥

One of the seminal albums of the the last decade. Lorde you left us drooling for more. All good Queen.
There are only few songs/movies which can take you back to certain phase of your life. This is one of those songs.
Ok, honestly I re-discovered this song, several years after hearing it, because I was watching South Park. Had never seen the video before now. But I LOVE it. I can relate so much more than I could when I heard this on the radio years ago. Lovelovelove this. ❤❤❤

I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address,
In a torn-up town, no postcode envy
But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room,
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams.
But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece.
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash.
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair.
And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.

My friends and I-we've cracked the code.
We count our dollars on the train to the party.
And everyone who knows us knows that we're fine with this,

best thing to come out in a LONG time.
relieving to see a talented female artist not stripping in her videos.
Seriously one of the best songs I have heard in a long time
I spent more than 7 years looking for this version, and it's worth it!
+SepherStar Ha, I love this comment!

Two years on and damn, spot on.
baby boomers hold this peculiar envy toward us millennium machines of humans, I love how Bobby Moynihan actually portrays “drunk uncle” at thanksgiving dinner (and because SNL is my childhood melancholic seCret pleasure).

Peace out and enjoy this masterpiece!
the fact that there is in one video SUCH A NUMBER of easter eggs drives me crazy like yeah Lorde shake that ass omg
- we can hear at the beggining the theme of Biting Down
- all the guys in the video have a buzzcut, it refers then to Buzzcut Season. we can also notice some scenes with a pool. it refers too to Buzzcut Season (so we live beside the pool, where everything is good).
- the scene where the boy looks in the mirror at his bloody teeth can be an easter egg of White Teeth Teens.
- at the end of the video there is a tennis court and the "yeah!" from Tennis Court.

Graeme Henderson I was praising her for it... I was pointing it out because it had amazed me and I didn’t realize it before when I was younger.
Dago Raul Aguirre Godoy there was no need for that. I was praising her for it. You should be more careful with the things you say to others on the internet. That was very unkind and rude of you. Was it really necessary to say such hurtful things on a comment that wasn’t negative at all?

I am SO happy to "meet" you and see your own heartfelt words without a song.......Thank you..you seriously have an impact on ma personal life with this song ta to all your friends ma you all stay safe and always be true to yourselves and each other....Much Love! It's been 6 years? We're getting so old, I just wann go back in time and relive this nostalgic feeling :(
If you like minimalist music it's out there.
I am not a teenageres I'm 53 but I like your music .renew my soul

she is, im 35 i love her and her message to the teens and the fake and corp. run artist also....she speaks what i knew in my late teens early twenties and what me and my friends did n knew back then, hate the new rappers whatever n the stuff she says they sing about exactly who cares....lol
