For Colored Boys is a dramatic web series written and directed by award winning filmmaker Stacey Muhammad of Wildseed Films.
The first season of For Colored Boys follows the life of Benjamin Boyd, Sr. who upon release from prison seeks to reunite his family by rekindling his relationship with wife, "Lisa" and reassuming his role as father to his teenage daughter, Sidney and 20 year old son, "E". A talented yet somewhat troubled young man, "E" has had to shoulder a tremendous amount of responsibility during his father's incarceration.Returning home, Benjamin finds his son is no longer a boy, but a man unwilling to acknowledge or accept the presence of his father. In order to mend a troubled and fragile relationship and rebuild his family, Benjamin must be careful not to overstep his bounds, yet still re-establish his presence as E's father. Finding his place in a world he's been estranged from is more difficult task than he could have ever imaged and suffering from Post Incarceration Syndrome makes it seem nearly impossible.
Inspired by the highly acclaimed 1975 choreopoem "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf" by Ntozake Shange, For Colored Boys is a series of stories that follow the lives of African American men from various walks of life as they navigate and overcome challenges, face their fears, find their truth, mend broken relationships, find love, build families and inspire the lives of many.

"Redemption, For Colored Boys" mines drama out of the absent-father-returns scenario but gives the characters a genuine life and personality (the son records music passionately, his father has a warm encounter with a bodega clerk) before the histrionics start, so when they do, it feels realistic. Furthermore, the movie uses the short form to its advantage: the director cuts immediately after the altercation between father and son, suggesting that things can't actually be repaired. It's a much more honest, powerful statement than any gift-wrapped reconciliation you'd find elsewhere.

This will be a great web series. This pilot episode really sets the tone and material for, at least, 2-3 seasons. The principal actors (mother and father) are really good. I had the privilege of meeting the actor who played the father at a men's roundtable event in Harlem. Much success to this endeavour!!!
Didn't realize I would get so emotional after watching only the first episode. Well written, well acted, WELL DONE! So real as I thought about so many fatherless children being disappointed! Love it!
All I can say is that this short film left me speechless. An amazing acting and you did a phenomenal job with the script. I pray that you get the funding for this series! Word of mouth is the most powerful tool to promote your project. I wish you all the best!

Wow. I was in tears by the end of this. This is so raw and though I was blessed in life to always have my father and my mother in my life, growing up in Brooklyn I know so many people who didn't. I really enjoyed this. It bought me to tears cause it hit close to home.
*sigh* I KNEW i was going to end up crying lol This hit home for me, My dad is supposed to be released from prison later this year after 20 years of incarceration and I'm struggling with how to deal with that myself so I can appreciate what you emphasized in only 12 minutes. Fatherless homes, single mom syndrome smh no one will struggle with this like the Black Community has and still does. ALL of the actors did a superb job..I remember Julito from The Wire. Bravo!
Waited a few months to watch the pilot (again) so I could then watch the first episode of Season one of the series. I must say that this right here is gonna be a HIT. Watch out for the rising star writer/director Stacey Muhammad in the present and future. Oh forgot the cast was GREAT as well.

Stacey, This is very inspiring yet sad! I have a son that just wants to get back on track because of a wrong turn in his life at 18. he is now 24 and i know he wants better but is struggling. I just started a program called F.E.A.R. and it was inspired by my own personal story and my son. This clip made me cry!!!! Allah knows best!!!!

Something made me feel like this couldn't have been the first time the mother saw the dad after he was released from jail. It's probably the kids' first time, but she had to have saw him a few times before this. She probably introduced the idea of Eric and Sidney meeting him again and Eric didn't already like it.
