Sirr Parker I'm looking forward to that as well. Don't mind shooter's with RPG elements as long as its done properly. Borderlands for instance was thoroughly enjoyable.
Oh God i can't wait ! I love that ambient locations with beautiful music, and since Gothic 1 the brutal difficulty specially in Gothic 2. Today's kids talk shit about it but i don't care, it's much more fun to fight and explore than to get everything on plate like in 95% of today's games. Piranha bytes always made games which made you to think before getting into combat and who to trust. But yeah Risen 2 was a bit weird, but i still love it ! I know Risen 3 will give me goosebumps like Risen 1, the locations in their games grow on you. Sorry for my bad English :P
MultiLelde what are you talking about. Are you insulting my console. my N64 can handle 60fps at 1080p and surive 20 feet falls. It surely can handle this game.
This may be a weird and unrelated question, however what symbols or letters are those that you use in your name? They remind me of the Georgian script. Again, sorry for the unrelated question.
I have a good feeling about this game... and if the game is just a little bit like the Gothic 1 or 2 it will be awesome. These guys know how to build up a great membership experience and in some ways these titles are better then games like skyrim
I was SO hyped after seeing this...I thought Piranha was finally going to give us again all the charm and inmersion that characterized the Gothic series. Now, i'm not saying that R3 is a complete disaster; beneath the horrible controls that have been PB's trademark for far too long, the antiquated graphics and the ruthless difficulty spikes, still lies some of the spirit of Piranha Bytes' first games; the same spirit that made us forgive and forget all the game's bugs and failures to immerse ourselves 100% into the game, but it's so sad to think that Risen could have been much, much more...The series will always be obscured by its spiritual predecesor, and no without reason. I don't know if now PB will go back to their original series and make Gothic V, or, who knows, a REAL Gothic IV, if they will bring us another well-meaning but ultimately mediocre installment of Risen, or they'll start a completely new series, but I can only hope that they haven't lost their special touch for creating unforgettable videogames, because I'm starting to fear so. A spanish die-hard fan of Gothic, and in lesser extent, of Risen. Sorry my english, but regardless of the language, i think many feel the same way I do.
Hijynx87 The first one was pretty bad man, it was boring and had a lot of bugs in general Overall they both weren't fun to play But I agree I have hope for this it looks like it could really be good
Looks excellent! Very diverse and immersing! Offers alot more options than other rpgs! I'm just hoping it will work out Xbox 360, especially considering it's not on next gen.
"Oldschool" first thing they could do to make the game more gothic like is remove those damn screens when you interact with things like a fire for example. And they could have the individual food by itself. And also the quests show "you killed 5/5 things". I mean really which player thinks this is better?
Just watching this made me giddy since it has the same athmosphere as the old gothic games. gothic 4 was horrible and risen 2 was an ok game and i really hope that this one will be back to the roots as they promised. heh snappers.....KHA KAAAAH!
I personally loved Risen 1, but I have not finished Risen 2. It was a weird sequel that dropped so much from the first one... And not to the better, as the combat is abysmal in Risen 2 compared to Risen 1. Unfortunally this looks more like Risen 2 combat than Risen 1..... So much for going back to the roots...
Yesss! My first TES game was Oblivion. Never played morrowind. Gothic is RPG series of my childhood and Risen 1 and 2 were great games too . Will this game be perfect? LOL , its Piranha Bytes game :D but I will play the hell out of it for sure. Just love em.
Graphics aren't all that great still but i don't mind that much, will give this a try i can see there trying to make something that they really love. Even if they swing and miss like the other two risen.
Why doesn't looting and crafting still happen in the 'game' world? It takes you to a menu screen which I hate. It totally ruins the immersion they worked to create in the first place.
Yeah I'm still not convinced. I will wait for Angry Joe's review. Not buy it immediately like I did with Risen 2 I can't believe I had the strength to put up with it for 20+ hours.
Looks good, especially the air bending stuff... I might get this one, im tired of triple A games especially the fps genre...i think its about time to let the lesser known developers to shine...
Nope, 'cause this game have a great own STORY & ATMOSPHERE & interesting NPCs without any mod... So to compare to Skyrim really not a good idea, except if U haven't played any parts of GOTHIC or RISEN Yeah, Skyrim is a huge, open-world fantasy action/adventure RPG but on a really different way... Just like for example the Witcher titles as well, but again on different way, with different atmosphere, story, etc.
So. Game is released. And this is NOT back to root. This is improved risen 2, without levels and with few little worlds-islands. Pirates again, firepowder again, casuality again. 5/10
Enjoyed SACRED 2, SACRED 3 and Risen 3 both come from DEEP SILVER. Both please be good in both titles. Risen series had been... alright. Got to play through Risen 1, 2.
Gothic 3 was basically perfect other than the combat, I just wish we could have a revamp of it without the awful fighting mechanics haha! Like choosing which faction to side with and all of that was so cool
There was also the bugs and the optimization issues... But I'm totally with you. Piranha may have overreached with Gothic 3 but they really only narrowly missed the mark. It was a great game otherwise and was leaps and bounds ahead of Oblivion. With that experience they could've gone for it again, tossed in some customization and modability and they'd have GOTY candidate. And when they announced the first Risen I was hoping that was exactly what they were going for. But instead of the Gothic 4 we deserved (that godawful abomination that shall not be named that JoWood unleashed upon us was NOT Gothic 4), they chickened out and took 10 steps back. First Risen felt like a mediocre Gothic 2 expansion. I don't even remember much about the second Risen. I'm still hopeful and hyped about this game though
I don't usually make TH-cam comments, but... I 've got to say. I feel sorry for some of you. You've missed the boat, just like some missed great games like Final Fantasy 7, and you will never understand what makes Pirahna Bytes' games great. You started off with easy games like Elder Scrolls and others and are now too soft to handle a challenge. Perhaps you have started losing your imagination, and your heart has grown cold over the years. You moved on from a Master System, got a 64 and then played COD on Xbox for your remaining years. 'Fable' was your first introduction to a half-way decent rpg. Or perhaps even Oblivion... damn. You overlooked the things that have made the Gothic/Risen games great in favour of bitching about bugs. You want better graphics, but you do not understand that it means LESS ATTENTION TO DETAIL and random generated terrain/loot. It is about atmosphere, and this can be achieved with sound and feel and is less dependent on graphics than you think. An example of this is Minecraft; super bad graphics but you can still be scared if the atmosphere is there. Worst of all. You just want games that are easier. If you haven't played the Gothic series, play Risen 1 first. If your hardcore enough start from Gothic 1, cause Gothic 2 - Night of the Raven expansion is a masterpiece. I just want to shout out my thanks to the little team who call themselves Pirahna Bytes. You long haired, awesome german geeks. There's still some real gamers out there.
Looks Great! I hope it's more bugfree then the other games from PB :) @All Skyrim fanboys who try to massacre Risen and Gothic: Skyrim is this most boring game i've play the last years, even Mousecraft is more Funny! The Skyrim Engine is "really good" but thats all. No Feeling, no Skill needed -> Skyrim is casual.
Never completed Risen 1, played 30 minutes of Risen 2 then uninstalled it. This one looks better, but will probably one of the dozen RPG's that are sitting on my backlog... So many games, so little time :/
I heard the first 2 games were terrible. This one looks good graphically and it reminds me of Fable 2, which is a good thing. It does kind of seem generic though. The only thing that really bothers me is the animations.
Unfortunately lack of trust in piranha bytes is not wrong and Gothic 3 and risen 2 are staple to that fact. As much as I loved every other game... even their bugs... this makes me cautious. You could breathe the Gothic world more than in any mentioned elder scrolls games. I don't know why someone compares them even gothic was never open sandbox-ish rpg game. I do like more juicy intensive interaction with the smaller scale world than total feedom in TES series. Both are great in their own way. I find gothic series more exciting overall... lurking in deep scary caves gave substantial rewards and sometimes very quick death. Lurking and exploring in TES usually gave you hand full of bonedust.
You could argue that the increasing crappiness of all of those franchises (Elder Scrolls included) is a marketing ploy. This video seems to make that case, they can advertise a "return to roots" and energize the base. Kind of like new Coke vs. Coca-Cola Classic. The thing is, if you ask Coke they will tell you that was completely unintentional and I am sure Pirahnna Bytes and Bethesda are not deliberately ruining their franchises but promising return to classic does sell games.
Cypeq You obviously never played Risen 2, Gothic 3 or Elder Scrolls 5 (Skyrim) then. They are much worse than their predecessors. If Bethesda announced that they were returning to their roots with the next Elder Scrolls game, it would bring back a lot of players who grew tired of each new game being dumbed down.
MrGencyExit64 well gothic 3 was 10 years ago... it was bad because release was rushed. Game needed 1 year more of development it was too big and poorly optimized. than risen happened and it was return to good old gothic style of game... sadly PB lost rights to their own series ;-( and we'll most likely never see another 'real' gothic. risen 2 seemed like another rushed money grab release. While the Skyrim was a little bit dumbed down on RPG side of things but non the less massive EPIC scale of the game freaking close 200 hours of quality content... and awesome landscapes don't make it a bad game imho... also the much better combat and sneak system made for more fighting fun in long run than any other TES. If I see Risen 3 to be what they say I'll give them full retail price without 2nd thought, but I'm not jumping on preorder.
Cypeq Gothic 3 was not 10 years ago, you are thinking of Gothic 2. And I beg to differ on the epic scale of the game in modern Elder Scrolls games. Fast travel has totally destroyed that. It is more than just the RPG elements that they screwed up in the newer installments. You cannot even craft your own spells anymore.
You can trust it. I´ve seen the review from Angry Joe and in some points he wasn´t right about what he was saying. Piranha Bytes games are plain classic, especially the Gothic series.
I think Angry Joe dislikes Piranha's style in general. He complained about menial quests of the first game, even though it was about a guy making his way in the world, like all PB's storylines. You start out small, get stronger and then start performing greater feats. That's how games were used to be, before people started to think that everything should be epic all the time for some reason...
Its crazy how preorder bonus are getting bigger and bigger as if we love to buy games blindly and if we don't realize that they are just taking content of the game and call it day one DLC. ITS A TRAP!
Gothic 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Risen 1 tried to go back to that but was an average game at best. So i hope this game capture the feel of the original Gothic series and fix the problems Risen 1 had. So i wont buy it right away, and rather wait for the reviews to come out. I just hope another Gothic 4 will NEVER happen again in any shape or form.
This is... ugly? I thought it looks better than skyrim, and if the devs really reach all these goals they've stated in the video I think it'll actually BE better than skyrim. :/
I think it has prettier graphics than Skyrim as well, I mean Skyrim was ugly when it came out I don't know why people love it so much. Boring story, god - awful graphics. It always looked like a beefed up Oblivion.
Skyrim is my favourite game and Ive played about 700 hours, but the graphics without mods are worse than risen. And risen is one of my favourite games as well.
finally, after the disaster of risen 2, they seem to make a game more loyal to gothic franchise and risen 1...c'mon baby, daddy is tired to mode the shit out of skyrim to make it an interesting game
This is the kind of game I've been itching to play.
I'm so looking forward to this. There haven't been enough proper RPG's these days.
Destiny coming up
Sirr Parker I'm looking forward to that as well. Don't mind shooter's with RPG elements as long as its done properly. Borderlands for instance was thoroughly enjoyable.
Agreed.
I loved Risen 1. I like the concept for Risen 3 :)
I loved almost anything PB did.
They may be not perfect, but they know how to make a good game.
And this is so rare nowadays.
Awesome video, looks really fun. I was on the fence, but this sold me into buying a copy. Thanks!!!
German RPGs always had their spell to it, I'll give it a chance.
I was wrong, this game is bad :D
I think it was alright, keeps me occupied until Dragon Age comes out
Been waiting for this game for a while!! So glad its only a month away!!
Ok the magic seriously reminds me of bending from Avatar
Yes that's awesome:D
Oh God i can't wait ! I love that ambient locations with beautiful music, and since Gothic 1 the brutal difficulty specially in Gothic 2. I know Risen 3 will give me goosebumps like Risen 1, the locations in their games grow on you.
Sorry for my bad English :P
Now this is something different. I do feel that old Gothic vibe, looks kinda good. Can't wait.
This is how you make a game trailer!
Looks Great :)
I feel like i am one of 200 people who actually enjoy playing this game. Can't wait to venture into the world of Risen again!
Man, nothing beats the Gothic feel!
Cool. Finally I can buy a game for my nintendo 64 :D
Very fucking funny kid
Graphics bitch, leave the community
ymiwatchen, rly? So you *like* games holding your hand? Can you cross the street on your own, or do you need someone to look both ways for you?
MultiLelde what are you talking about. Are you insulting my console. my N64 can handle 60fps at 1080p and surive 20 feet falls. It surely can handle this game.
Kevin Temple what in the blue hell are you talking about. Games back in the n64 days were much more of a challenge then games today...
Piranha Bytes could have created "Adventures of Barbie on Kitty Island" and I would still play it. Anything from these guys is pure gold!
Hope they'll polish animations ..
This may be a weird and unrelated question, however what symbols or letters are those that you use in your name? They remind me of the Georgian script. Again, sorry for the unrelated question.
RoccoTeh Hey, you're right : )
It's my name and surname written in an old Georgian script called "Asomtavruli".
Oh that's awesome!
the graphics were never really the focus of their games. So don't get your hopes up. The game as it is will be amazing!
I would bet 50 bucks they wont
Can you tell me what armour in 6:54? And how can I get it?
I'm sold!
Never played the prequels. This looks good!
MIGHT GO AND BUY THE SECOND ONE NOW, LOOKS LIKE A GOOD SERIES.
Didn't know I wanted this; now I do.
Really good trailer! I love Piranha Bytes games and i think it will be a great game!:)
I have a good feeling about this game... and if the game is just a little bit like the Gothic 1 or 2 it will be awesome. These guys know how to build up a great membership experience and in some ways these titles are better then games like skyrim
Can't wait until Angry Joe reviews this
Crafting still takes place on separate screens? This is a great immersion killer.
i tried playing the first risen but the map is fucked up, i cant figure out what to do. guess ill need a gudie or something.
2:25 how did this guy survived? he is the inquisitor guy am I right?
"Bringing players back to the days and nights where games refused to hold their hand."
If I wasn't already sold, that is enough to earn my purchase.
I was SO hyped after seeing this...I thought Piranha was finally going to give us again all the charm and inmersion that characterized the Gothic series. A spanish die-hard fan of Gothic, and in lesser extent, of Risen. Sorry my english, but regardless of the language, i think many feel the same way I do.
This looks good. I am glad to see them leave the direction of Risen 2 behind.
thats how you make an amazing video!
If you've never played any of the previous Risen games or the Gothic games, then your opinions on this game are completely null and void.
I really hope this will be like Gothic II, or at least have that dark moody atmosphere!
Looks great!
this looks pretty damn good
Maybe they'll actually make a GOOD GAME for once
For once? Risen 1 was great. The 2nd was a failed pirate game that was full of bugs. It was a cash grab. This game looks promising.
Hijynx87 The first one was pretty bad man, it was boring and had a lot of bugs in general
Overall they both weren't fun to play
But I agree I have hope for this it looks like it could really be good
What? They already made a good/great game. Gothic, Gothic II, Gothic III, Risen and Risen 2.
Haha this guy.... GTFO you troll!! haha
***** Gothic? - Yes; Gothic 2? - Yes; Gothic 3? - meh; Risen? - yes; Risen 2? - Hahahahahahhaha no -.=
Doesn't look that bad, ill give it a go.
Yeah, at least it doesn't look as bad as risen 2 :D
ႪႳႩႠ ႿႨႡႪႠႻႤ why is risen two that bad?
Theis Carlsen It was horrible : )
But i loved Risen 1 ..
ႪႳႩႠ ႿႨႡႪႠႻႤ but why?
Theis Carlsen Buggy/rushed/poor design...also it was a pirate game......a broken pirate game rather.
If it feels like Risen 1 it will be great, however if it feels like Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 it will be awesome!
Actually looks pretty decent. Animations & combat looks much better
Playing through Risen 1 for the first time right now too.
Looks excellent! Very diverse and immersing! Offers alot more options than other rpgs! I'm just hoping it will work out Xbox 360, especially considering it's not on next gen.
YES, Swimming!
Scavengers always made that sound, at least in Gothic I and II. Oh, the nostalgia. Snappers were always the most difficult though. Bloody snappers.
Any character customization like some of the other said games? (DA and Skyrim)

Can't wait!^ Looks like now they are really care about the good old fans of GOTHIC. :)
2 days finally!
Graphics aren't all that great still but i don't mind that much, will give this a try i can see there trying to make something that they really love. Even if they swing and miss like the other two risen.
Soon as I Max cheevo the first 2 cause they're awesome games, ill preorder this one :)
was there really a risen to make another one?
Lead character sounds like Stannis Baratheon.
Looks very promising...
I have very low expectations for another Risen (or indeed Deep Silver/Piranha Bites) game. Hopefully I'll be surprised.
Why doesn't looting and crafting still happen in the 'game' world?
It takes you to a menu screen which I hate. It totally ruins the immersion they worked to create in the first place.
LMAO!! The golem was called "Terrifying Golem" oh my god lol
Yeah I'm still not convinced. I will wait for Angry Joe's review. Not buy it immediately like I did with Risen 2 I can't believe I had the strength to put up with it for 20+ hours.
These games sell so well that were on number 3? Should I finally buy one? Poor mans Skyrim?
Do i have to play risen 1 and 2 to play this?
Nah, Risen 2 was bullshit, playing that will only ruin your day. Risen 1 was amazing, but you don't have to play it to understand this game. I think.
Michiel de Graaff Risen 2 was amazing and a good story line
i don't care about how it looks as long as its fun and better then risen 2
IF THEY CAN MAKE THE COMBAT MORE FLUID. THATS ALL I THINK IT NEEDS
Looks good, especially the air bending stuff... I might get this one, im tired of triple A games especially the fps genre...i think its about time to let the lesser known developers to shine...
is this only coming for PS3 and X360? Is there a PS4 version coming out?
nope just PC, 360 and PS3 this time
TheDorsch100 nice. Although i do want it for ps4, im happy that it will come out to console. :) thanks!
Looks promising
I can synthesize this video in a single sentence: We skyrimed this game.
Skyrim?
You are clearly an idiot.
Theres no point even discussing it with you.
Game is looking just as I hoped it'd be being a gothic fan except still the combat worries me as it did in risen. I'm hoping for the best!
So. Game is released. And this is NOT back to root. This is improved risen 2, without levels and with few little worlds-islands. Pirates again, firepowder again, casuality again.
5/10
That frame-rate though...

I just want to shout out my thanks to the little team who call themselves Pirahna Bytes. You long haired, awesome german geeks. There's still some real gamers out there.
Risen doesn't deserve two sequels
just like Final Fantasy XIII
Dat german piranha bytes
Can you smoke weed in Risen 3 like in Risen 1 if there going back to there roots xD
Looks Great!
I hope it's more bugfree then the other games from PB :)
@All Skyrim fanboys who try to massacre Risen and Gothic:
Skyrim is this most boring game i've play the last years, even Mousecraft is more Funny!
The Skyrim Engine is "really good" but thats all.
No Feeling, no Skill needed -> Skyrim is casual.
a half ass game like previous Risen 2?
well kind-of...more improvement than previous.
Might check it out :)
Idk why people keep saying skyrim i'd go with reckoning before skyrim.
Anyway. You should look at the gameplay over the graphics anyhow.
hope the combat is better than in Risen 2
Never completed Risen 1, played 30 minutes of Risen 2 then uninstalled it.
This one looks better, but will probably one of the dozen RPG's that are sitting on my backlog... So many games, so little time :/
Brave to be releasing (1) for last gen and no next gen; and (2) between Dragon Age Inquisition and Witcher 3.
It's coming out now, in August, but DA: I delayed to end of this yr... to middle of November if I good remember.
It's a good timing I would say. If it was coming out at the same time or after, it would be over shadow by those two games.
PC RPG Community ~ PC RPG Közösség It's being released in two weeks on Steam.
hurrdurrimaburr Yep. ...&? :)
PC RPG Community ~ PC RPG Közösség Oh, sorry. Misread your comment completely, my bad.
Doesn't look standard graphics to me, the textures , the engine looks out dated back in 2005 lol
Will i need to learn how to freaking kick?
I heard the first 2 games were terrible. This one looks good graphically and it reminds me of Fable 2, which is a good thing. It does kind of seem generic though. The only thing that really bothers me is the animations.
The 2nd game was bad, the first rocked.
animations look realistic and good
Don't talk if you dint played them.
The first Risen was great! It's kind of PB's way of saying sorry for Gothic 3 being a piece of shit game.
RKS88 Gothic 3 was not developed by PB
Unfortunately lack of trust in piranha bytes is not wrong and Gothic 3 and risen 2 are staple to that fact. As much as I loved every other game... even their bugs... this makes me cautious. I'm waiting for angry joe to review this game before I put money down on it I just don't trust this franchise
Ranziel1 +1000 to everything u just said.
Yeah, let's wait for the guy who gave Skyrim a 10/10 score to review this.
I won't lie I kinda didn't agree with that score either for skyrim
Oh man....this looks just like first two games so ill stay with Witcher 2 and Divinity.
No Patty......... :(
This is probably what Fable 3 should've been..
Its crazy how preorder bonus are getting bigger and bigger as if we love to buy games blindly and if we don't realize that they are just taking content of the game and call it day one DLC. ITS A TRAP!
I need dis
Gothic2 was epic. One of my All Time Favorites. But Risen never reached that level.
Risen 4 - online please
It looks like a 2009 game.
Looks pretty cool, but not something i would buy at full price
Gothic 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Risen 1 tried to go back to that but was an average game at best.
So i hope this game capture the feel of the original Gothic series and fix the problems Risen 1 had.
So i wont buy it right away, and rather wait for the reviews to come out. I just hope another Gothic 4 will NEVER happen again in any shape or form.
It looks better then arcania atleast
This is...
