  • A breakdown on the fastest marathon ever ran with a time of 2:00:25 . Here is a quick analysis of Eliud Kipchoge's running as well as tips to improve your running form! Eliud Kipchoge is one of the best long distance runners in the world and is known for his incredible passion for running as well as his great running technique. This race was done as part of the Breaking2 project by Nike. Due to special circumstances involved in the race, this is not considered an official race, but still, it was very interesting to watch!

    In the breaking 2 project, one of the scientists said: "He is the most efficient runner I have ever seen." Kipchoge's gait truly is smooth and fast. If you are this smooth in your running, your body will not take as much pounding as someone who has bad form. Form can make you or break you, when running these extreme distances.

    Thanks for posting this video. I think Eliud Kipchoge is the most efficient long distance runner and I think that why he is the best marathon runner. Another factor on why he is successful in marathon events is because he is smart and mentally strong.

    Eliud Kipchoge is an amazing runner. I also think in addition to his great form he also has the perfect build for the marathon. He could have the world record missing it by just a few seconds in London 2016.

    Thanks JP, great analysis! I also love watching Kipchoge's technique and as a running coach I use it in teaching my athletes how to become better runners. Not tot discourage them but to show them that there is a reason why perfect runners like Kipchoge run like they do. I also film my athletes and use slomo to show them there strong points and their flaws. By using analysis tutorials like yours I learned a lot about how to analyse my athletes. Very inspiring!

    • @Rudysattva
      @Rudysattva 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I also think that idea of pull through is off. In other videos you can see his shoe still pronating and collapsing until its directly under him. So ground contact is early, but actual weight bearing landing is not. There is no pull through, thats momentum.

    Another excellent analysis. Keep up the good work.
    As a side note, I watched breaking two vid several times when it was first upload. I was a little disappointed that Nike couldn't get the participation of other top marathoners such as Dennis Kimetto, Wilson Kipsang, and/or Bekele. Also, I was disappointed and surprised that they continued to waste valuable resources trying to draft for Tadese and Dedisa when those guys fell behind. There was no point to it, as those guys had no chance of catching up. But to the bigger point: with better competition (Kipsang, Kimetto) perhaps one of them or all of them would have beaten the 2-hour mark.

    • @JPGloria
      @JPGloria  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the support! And I 100% agree with you on that point. I have a feeling Tadese definitely has the potential, but I truly wished the three you mentioned were in it. They might have had a better chance of making it happen!

      robert luong Me too! I'm really excited for this years Berlin Marathon though! It might be too optimistic to think someone would break 2 hours during it, but I have a feeling..with the right conditions, at least the world record might be broken again! If it doesnt happen there, I'm sure there will be another project by some big company to break the 2 hour mark!

    Pull though on your strikes to not bounce up and down
    Strike just below your knee, and just in front of your center of mass

      @colecoleman1499 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Imagine your hams and calves sliding and pushing forward as you land, instead of pushing up when you land. It's something natural when you have a proper running gait and 180 cadence. You pull your legs back upon landing rather than push up. Many begginners you see them jumping up and down like popcorns when they run that's not a pull through

      CrytexPanda Thank you! Definitely something important, but I didn't talk about it, just because I talk about the same, main purpose of the arms throughout most of my running videos, which is to counter the rotational forces coming from the legs. I'll talk about it briefly here though! He tends to keep his arms up high and close to his body. He presents with a symmetrical arm swing, up until the final stretch of the race. His left arm ends up seeming a little farther out, but that may be more due his increased shifting of his body toward the right side!
