Bought these clubs 4 weeks ago, driver, 3 w 3and 4 hybrids and 5 to 57 degree lob, as an average golfer(68 yr old) in the 4 eke I’ve owned these I’ve dropped 4 to 5 shots on my 9 hole round, I was a prolific slicer coming from a hockey background and these clubs are just fantastic but oh how I would love a beautiful swing like you have, cheers and I’m now going to subscribe.🏌🏽
I had the original big bertha irons which really helped my game at the time, the way my golf has been the last year or so maybe this is a set I should be looking at.
I think I just might be the only single handicapper under the age of 40 on the planet who plays with 2004 Big Berthas... I just can’t quit them! They’re massive and so forgiving... and swing so easy. Graphite shafts too! Ugh... the shame! Great review... as always.
I like the bb21 irons nice and easy to hit but I get confused with why bring them out the mavrik max is essentially the same club and then considering there will be more clubs coming out in a few months is that not to crowded and confusing to the consumer
Just got fitted with B21s to replace my old X-12's (yes..X12s!). Went from (+1", down 2, TO +1/2", UP 2). They are surprisingly similar, but much longer. My 7-iron "was" 165 carry and now is around 180. At 54, I decided to go with the lighter Graphite Shafts as well, and I'm hoping overtime that that decision pays off.
My brother gave me a set of these. Im willing to try them out just to see if they are the final piece of the puzzle of our Pinehurst/Southern Pines golf trip. Who knows? This might be what Ive been looking for
“I LOVE FLAG HUNTING”. I seem to prefer something in the middle, thickness wise. I have a set of JPX 919 Hot Metal irons which are aesthetically quite nice but I feel I’ve almost lost a short iron because of their lofting gaps. My 6 iron is the same loft as my old 5 iron, which I replaced with a hybrid in that set. Am thinking of getting a steel-shafted fli-hi to help with launch/peak height consistency, a bit like your launcher turbo 6 iron.
Took delivery of a set of 4 - 9 irons last week, they feel and look excellent. Unfortunately we are still in lock down in Melbourne so its the back yard for a another 2 weeks, but really looking forward to using them on the course.
Hi David i also have a set. 80 gram steel shaft. D1 swing weight. My problem with them is that the club head feels extremely heavy compared to my last set. Do u notice that the over weight of the club is heavier.
I game the Callaway Steelhead XR irons. Game improvement for sure but with much less offset than most GI irons. .15 for the 7 iron compared to .23 for the Rogue, for example. Same 30 degree loft.
I especially liked the comparison between your normal swing and a slower swing speed. The difference in shot shape was a real eye opener. Please do this comparison more often.
I think i need these in my life. Big Bertha where the first club i remember lusting over in the 90's so there is definitely some nostalgia there. I swing in between the two stings you did here so think it could be a perfect option for me. But i would be interested to see how the top end compares to a hybrid and also these go right back to a 60 degree! Thats interesting too, i'd like to see you test them against a bladed speciality wedge and i would love to test them too.
Long past the chunky iron bothering me, as long as it does the job, so be it. I’m happy with a club that gives me confidence and results. No matter how many times I try and go to another manufacturer I always end up with Callaway. It’s not just the marketing it’s the final quality. Mark, can you look at the new Mack Daddy CB wedges, they are very interesting and compete with a company you now know. Thanks
Have you ever done a review on what clubs mid handicappers should use who want the forgiveness and help but without silly loft? I have decent speed but still want help on off centre strikes. Many thanks
Big Bertha looks like it's all about that "bass"... Sooooole... They definitely remind me of some of the older clubs that have been put out, but I understand the need. I'm sure there are some peeps looking to replace some of their older sets with something similar. I do like Mark working the ball out... Almost looks like practicing those up and down out of trouble shots!
I LOVE FLAG HUNTING! But that usually comes with my wedges. I recently tried longer clubs since I'm not bending as well as I'm used to, and it's been amazing! If you can't get your body back to fit, at least get your clubs fit.
I'm a +2 handicap and purchased the B21 driver, 3W, and 5W. I'm just tired of making the game more difficult than it needs to be. I'm looking for game improvement irons that blend looks, performance, and forgiveness, and these are on my list. Not sure if they're gong to be too big for me to get used to though.
I dont actually look at the club at address, I look at the the ball, i think. I play Wilson C200 with very noticeable tech of the top line but i never even look at it. I often sit here listening to you guys talk about top line and think i must remember to look at the top line when i next play and i never do. Sod it, i'm gonna go look at my clubs now
With Callaway's super computer, do you think they're planning world domination..........like a Bond villain? On a serious note, you've always appeared to have a good relationship with Callaway, do you think you could review some Ben Hogan gear?
I love flag hunting. I play Callaway Rogue, off 18, hitting the 7 iron 150 carry. I like what the bigger club gives me but I am looking at swapping out my Pw and 9i at least for something with better feel. I find chipping with them especially difficult.
Never got the feeling comfortable with “bigger” clubs, I actually felt like I couldn’t hit them when I tried. Much prefer a less chunky look. “I love flag hunting”
' I love flag hunting ' I got the wilson d7s just after lockdown and altho they are sgi and chunky I love them and they stop on greens ok for me too. I'm a 20 handicapper and need bit of extra confidence at address. I like look of them but bet they will be much more expensive that mine and same kinda club.
They look ok. I'm not bothered about the look. I play with Cleveland Launchers. People do take the mickey a bit but I could not care less. I'm playing better. I will stick with the Cleveland as it will take something very special to beat them on performance or price.
I need a new set of irons and I will definitely give these a test drive I like chunky irons I love hollow body irons my current irons are the first generation I think they came out in 2018 Cleveland irons
Mark, when you give club reviews, you need to review more than just the 7 iron. As an older player, I find I can easily handle the 6 iron and above. When I get to the 4 & 5 iron, I can't hit them at all. Long irons need shorter shafts, with more loft and probably more lie angle too. Try the 4 iron, when you review clubs. Get a 70 year old to try them.
I'm gaming the 6 - SW from Callaway Edge package set. Why? Just started playing again this year, got a bargain price for them & they suit where I'm at (need the help). Offset looks very similar to the B21's, but the topline of the Edge looks slimmer. Would be interested to see a like for like test, especially considering the price differential.
I would be interested to see if i find these easier than Cobra King forged one length. Two different ideas to help a higher handycap golfer!!?? And how much better than my Non fitted Wilson C200's. Would love to test this especially as i struggle with my longer irons.
Definitely not my style. More of a blade fan. Honestly, every time I watch reviews like this there are nuggets of great information/advice. Keep them going Mark!👍
Does Callaway or Srixon have some type of "auto-cleaning" technology, like mini windshield wipers?? Unless you are hitting on the simulator, I don't think I have ever seen an iron of yours that isn't covered in grass and dirt. Coach, if you are reading this, buy the man a golf towel!!!
I LOVE FLAG HUNTING, so glad I didn’t pull the trigger on the Big Bertha’s. I would have been too long. Decided on the JPX919 Hot Metal Pros instead. Played this weekend and me and my partner took 1st place in Gross. I was striking them very well.
I would never play these but I would love to see a set of traditional players irons / maybe even blades bent to the same loft as these Big Bertha irons - then compare the numbers of both. That would be a good test of the tech of the club vs just the loft?
I have had my MP53’s for nearly 10 years and I am planning for some new irons soon. I have turned 52 recently and definitely need more help but I wouldn’t go to something like the BB because it is just ugly. I think the P770 or JPX921 HM tours will be on the list though.
I love flag hunting. I went from a blade to a game improvement hot metal. It’s all about the feel. I’m not trying to shape shots any more basically just want to hit it straight.
I have played both chunky and thinner looking clubs over the years and I believe it's really down to feel and if they work would you turn down that bit help...
Im new to your channel. Love the content. Im looking at the Tiltleist T300 and theses B21 irons. My question would be for me, a 25 handicap at the moment . Which would recommend?
Mark, I know you/others say the spin is low on clubs like this but I'd love to see you take them on course, with a camera on green and see if they actually struggle to stop vs another traditional lofted club. My 7i spins about 5500 ish but I never struggle to hold a green.
@@MarkCrossfield yeah I get that, but again at 5500 I never have any problem with ball flight or carry numbers jumping about, the only drop offs I get are from strike and or bad face/ path.
Jay Byrne yep that’s the point. The biggest factors are launch then consistent flight compared to other spin model irons. 👍 easy to add spin mind just hit the 8 😉
@@MarkCrossfield 🤣🤣🤣 yeah then chip a wedge after coming up short! To be fair, I'd be chipping anyway cos even if I hit right length, I'll probably miss left or right anyway 😒
I play these in 4-pw aw sw and they help my fat shots and launch immensely. Thinking about even doing the lw now instead of the mack daddy cb (which has matching shaft) I have. Should I play a 4 iron instead of hybrid? Nah probably not. But I hit a hook/pull and the irons just work better for me despite the less height. I play a spinnier ball to try to compensate.
Hi Mark. Thanks for the review. As a poor (28/30 handicap)/ infrequently playing golfer would you suggest these clubs or something like the Cleveland HB Turbos to help lower my scores or should I stick with the bog standard package set of clubs I bought 10 years ago and spending my money on lessons and playing more rounds of golf instead? Thanks.
Re my previous comment. i think that would be really interesting i think i would get much more out of spending the fitting time on getting the right clubs woods vs hybrids vs irons vs wedges than spending all the fit time trying a Mavric, an Apex, an Epic, plus a pro version then a max. What do you think?
I personally think a review of these vs the Mavrik irons would be pretty interesting, from all of my friends that have been fitted that are mid-handicappers they have all been fitted for the Mavriks.
I am 5'8" 150lbs 57yo golfer with a 10 handicap and a 97-100 mph swing. I have been playing Big Bertha Irons w/RCH 95 graphite shafts since purchased new in 1992. I have been thinking about a new set of irons all year because I feel I am cheating myself using 30yo irons. Do u think these irons would be good for me, or should I wait another 10 years for this type of "golf improvement" irons and go with something like the APX?
"i love flag hunting" these are the iron clubs i would buy if i could afford new. along with some hybrids and the driver, i think it would make up a great set. i like the look of them and need all the confidence i can get. all of these B21's are for us high handicappers and i think consistency is what most of us need to lower our handicap and better enjoy playing the game.
And they go to a 8H and a 9W. So many fitting opportunities with this model. Does this offer a different way of fitting? Basically these will be as good as anything out there if you are the right finda player and like the look. So dont spend time getting fit into the model but into the make up of your bag. basically more of a gap test/fit!!!
I had the X hot irons as my first set. Very forgiving and typical from Callaway's "game improvement" range. I bought Mavriks during lockdown and they are very similar in feel but without a hollow cavity. I wouldn't game these personally, I don't like the look and there are plenty of other better options out there. I'd like to see reviews of Benross' newer range. For most mid handicappers or higher, can't see much more bang for buck elsewhere.
I love flag hunting like the rest of 'em. But it's the chase for me. Sneaking up on a flag, moving from left to right (usually right), hiding in the bunkers. Jumping out, trying to get to the hole before some muppet says 'go on, you can have that'. I have a few mounted above the fireplace. The one in the middle was a birdie.
Seems like there's very little difference structurally between these and my M6s, which I love, 4i-PW. The 4i is basically a 2 utility/driving iron and it beats the hell out of a 7w or a 3h or 4h. I'm always trying to keep my trajectory down and it's amazing how much spin I get out of even the long irons with low flights. I've looked at the P790s and P770s and while they're really pretty I have no temptation to switch. Despite the dismissive reviews, I think these sorts of clubs are kind of sleepers and might suit many more people if they could get over the snob factor.
I LOVE FLAG HUNTING Fitted for JPX919 Forged earlier this year; went into it thinking hot metal but forged had enough help and best numbers. Must always get fit! No more 9 iron 160 yard flyballs.
I love flag hunting! Joined a golf club last month, my record is shooting 120 (on a 69 par course). I currently use a set of Slazsnger irons, so these type of game improvement irons like they would be a good next step. Plus they have a great name!
I love flag hunting! Been playing the original M2 irons for a few years now, and definitely do get some random low spin bombs from them. Had a go with my friends Ping i210s and think my next set will be closer to more traditional lofts, but still with a bit of help!
i think it's down to your swing.i play 21H/C. driver average 190 .been trying to compress the ball, now my game has gone backwards .was very steady but tried to lower H/C now i'm useless.Do you think you could play competitively with these irons?Cheers for the great videos
Currently game ping i210 (playing off of 14) Thinking of changing to something with a little more "help", always wanted BIg Bertha as a youth but now i feel these would be way too chunky to my eye
I LOVE FLAG HUNTING I've been really struggling with my irons and have absolutely no confidence in hitting them well. I'll be including these in my list of possibles for a new set
Mark Crossfield, if I understand what the club makers are saying the reason for the stronger lofts is because the clubs tech makes them launch so high they need to take loft off to bring them down to normal heights. So is this just marketing hype or is there some truth to it?
I love flag hunting. I do wonder with these game improvement irons whether it would be better for a lot of people if they spun a bit more. Would they stay in the air longer and stop quicker if they did?.
I used to have Titleist oversized irons ( 804’s I think) and loved them. But then over the years moved to shallow cavity and then blades (now awaiting some luvly Mizuno MP20 MB’s) and now cannot hit an oversized iron to save my life. The just look too clunky to me so I lose confidence rather than gain it. Weird. All in my head I know.
I currently game Apex CF16 irons and to be honest apart from the current Apex irons all other Callaway irons look so ugly to me. Am I the only one? Compare their lineup with Titleist, Taylormade,...
The strong lofts would put me off buying these. I really do think there should be rules to make lofts far more uniform across golf club manufacturers. There are 9 irons out there that are really 7 irons, making them fit in with your set of wedges could leave major distance gaps.....I love flag hunting by the way, I just don't do it often.
Hit the thumbs up button peoples it really help 👍👍 Let me know in the comments have you played Callaway golf irons before?
Yep XR16 driver for a few years and an XR 4 hybrid. i like Callaway but most of my mates think they are old mans clubs. i like them fyi i'm 42
I had Big bertha irons about 8 years ago. I gave them to my son 3 years ago
Always played Ping and TM. Enjoyed the BB demo.
I had the original big bertha irons which really helped my game at the time, the way my golf has been the last year or so maybe this is a set I should be looking at.
I have the original BB irons and have proved the numbers that B21s are my best improvement clubs so I’m off to buy a set for Xmas!
0:56 Yet another set of Mark's irons with uncleaned grooves!! 😆
Top line reminds me of my 1997 Big Bertha irons, my first "name brand" clubs.
I think I just might be the only single handicapper under the age of 40 on the planet who plays with 2004 Big Berthas... I just can’t quit them! They’re massive and so forgiving... and swing so easy. Graphite shafts too! Ugh... the shame! Great review... as always.
They look and sound similar to my steelhead-xr's. I'm chuffed with them so I'd give the Bertha's a go for a giggle.
I'm using G2s. Big offset but manageable sole widths and traditional lofts. Love them. Usually play bladier types
Excellent. For us older golfers losing distance these are an option
Great idea to knock some speed off - helps us mere mortals in our game and decision making. Thanks
Really enjoy the tempo and look of your swing Mark. Callaway always delivers the goods with these game improvement clubs.
I play off 12 and game these irons, I love them absolute rockets but do need to carry 4 wedges to compensate
My brother gave me a set of these. Im willing to try them out just to see if they are the final piece of the puzzle of our Pinehurst/Southern Pines golf trip. Who knows? This might be what Ive been looking for

Will do
thanks again for a top review .... Purely for esthetic purposes i would us a table above the belt line
I'm in the Cobra F9 iron category for chunky irons.

Still using X16s but looking for an update this year. It will be a big change whatever I get - my 7 iron is 34 degrees and only carries 145.
“I LOVE FLAG HUNTING” The first set of irons I bought were blades didn’t know what I was buying but I like the slimmer look
Like them like the idea of a 5i instead of my 4i blending to my hybrid
Never played Callaway irons or wedges but have had woods and hybrids.

I want to love flag hunting too these clubs fitted have helped me to be able to do so, maybe its just mental but have gone from 23 ghin to 17.
I love flag hunting. I would give these a go as you get older the more help you need as your speed drops off
Great video!
I LOVE FLAG HUNTING
Fitted for JPX919 Forged earlier this year; went into it thinking hot metal but forged had enough help and best numbers.
They do look massive to me. Great for a beginner but even though I'm not super consistent on strike, I'm not sure I could fame those 🤔
I love flag hunting!
I love flag hunting.
Prefer a slimmer less offset look, though I know I need all the help I can get. Considering 4 and 5 in these to give me a hand.
What was the swing speed on the slow 7 & 5
I love flag hunting.
I wonder how the B21 compares to the Cleavland Launcher HB?
Currently game ping i210 (playing off of 14) Thinking of changing to something with a little more "help", always wanted BIg Bertha as a youth but now i feel these would be way too chunky to my eye
Not really for me, but not bad looking for SGI irons.
I love flag hunting. If I can find it. I like the club reviews, could you do an in-depth Srixon ZX5 iron review not just the 7 iron
I LOVE FLAG HUNTING - I play some relatively old Cobra Baffler XL irons....which are definitely chunky. I love em...tbh.
LOVE THE LOOK
Those 120 7 irons will be like watching your channel in 20 years time
I LOVE FLAG HUNTING
I've been really struggling with my irons and have absolutely no confidence in hitting them well.
How are game improvement player launch with low loft??
I love flag hunting! With the six wedges needed to fill the gaps where the 8i, 9i and PW should be!
Seniors Big Bertha Irons2019
What makes a 7 iron a 7 iron? It has to be loft? No? Help us Mark
Good review ....
Thanks Barry
@@MarkCrossfield I met you at the Masters a few years ago, in one of the merchandise tents. I enjoyed meeting you and enjoy your reviews.
Thanks
I used to have Titleist oversized irons ( 804’s I think) and loved them. But then over the years moved to shallow cavity and then blades (now awaiting some luvly Mizuno MP20 MB’s) and now cannot hit an oversized iron to save my life. The just look too clunky to me so I lose confidence rather than gain it. Weird. All in my head I know.
I have never played Callaway irons, maybe someday.
I love flag hunting. Not a club for me but they have their place for certain swing speeds / abilities
I love flag hunting. But still not sure if I should be playing with something like this, or maybe I should be into a set of Mavriks?
I love flag hunting. My favorute part of the game!
