Maybe a bit late to the video but some useful tips when stuck in the snow: -Put your floor mats under the front tires, this has gotten me unstuck from a frozen parking lot -If you are high centered on snow, lift the car on its factory jack, this way you can clear the snow underneath with the shovel or find sticks, rocks, whatever to put under the tires to raise the car enough to get unstuck. - Chains are very important but if you need something easier to equip and easier to store, look up tire socks. Those are a good compromise. Hope this helps and respect for the courage, Id love to do something similar one day too.

As a Norwegian, who lives by the arctic circle, and experiences such conditions every winter... And I think this is normal winter conditions to drive a car in, so I have to laugh a little..
It's common to weight the fruit and vegetables yourself in the Nordics. There's either a scale by the greens which prints the label for you, or there's a self-checkout with scales. That big Trangia set you skipped? Should have picked that one. At least if it comes with the non-stick frying pan. The Toll agents don't really care about the answers. Not all of them, at least. They're mostly profiling you on HOW you answer; if there's hesitation or anything. What is the rating on your tires? M+S is no longer considered good enough, and you need 'tri-peaks' rated ones, at least if you're using non-studded tires. For anyone else thinking of doing this, I would REALLY suggest bringing something like AutoSocks(Actually a Norwegian cration) or easy to fit snow-chains. And learn to fit them before setting out on a trip. It's no fun trying to figure it out when the car's well and truly stuck and the weather is trying its best to kill you. I have Thule Easy-fit CU-9 series chains. They're bl**dy expensive, but can be installed in seconds. You can find cheap chains that's barely 10% of the price, but they're a bit more finnicky to install. If you see a snow plow heading in the direction you want, FOLLOW IT! They may not move very fast, but it's the safest way to travel. ABS and anti-skid is GREAT for winter driving. In my opinion, it's usually better than 4WD without ABS. In heavy snow I don't use the high beams at all; the light reflecting back from the snow just destroys visibility. When you see someone stuck in the snow you help them, with no expectation of a reward. Because the next time it can be you who need the help. Pay it forward. You might have been able to get out of that hole if you had put on snow chains immediately. Maybe. One technique that sometimes work is rocking the car back and forth quickly. But then you need to be very careful with the throttle. Just get a tiny movement forward, then slam it in reverse and get it to move back the same distance or a few mm more, then forward again. But it needs to be done with no spinning. Spinning the wheels just digs you deeper and polishes ice. Your Up is a bit more difficult to get out by yourself because of the very low ground clearance. It's much easier for it to end up with the bottom of the car resting on snow than for many other cars. Another tool that could have helped is 'snow ladders'. Hola! You took the time to write a comment 😉 *Cooking equipment* I already had a new set of pans in the car. Toll agent I'm aware of this, and I was confident in answering. Hence why she let me drive through. Tires The tires are with MS logo, but the compound is way to hard for Arctic adventures. I was not aware of difference between our winter tires, and theirs. Chains I can’t use chains because of the long tunnels all the time, so socks would be a solution for sure. High Beams At the time I was not sure about how the quality of all the footage would be at night, so I often used the high beams to let the camera capture more of the image. More light = less grain. Help In the next episode you’ll see each and every driver passing me without offering help. At North Cape many cars passed me there as well. The van stopping at North Cape was a foreign one I assume. Ground clearance You’re correct about the low ground clearance of the Up, this really did not work in my advantage. Most of the times the wheels were spinning, it was resting on the floor and I wanted to illustrate on camera the situation. Back and forth Rocking the car back and forth was impossible due to the gears of this car not being able to change that quickly. I tried, and it didn’t like that 😉 Snow ladders That is absolutely something I’m going to take with me next time! It would have made my life so much easier! Thanks!
@@ZoefontheMove My snowchains can be fitted in half a minute... th-cam.com/video/mLDn1pJIvHg/w-d-xo.html regular 'fast' chains with wires you hook together behind the wheels are a bit more cumbersome, and can take a couple of minutes, assuming you're not already stuck. But they're not meant for a 'permanent' install, and neither is the snowsocks. Snowsocks goes on very quickly, though, and can be removed just as easily. Anyway, you only use them when the road conditions warrants it. Solid chains, though, such as busses, lorries and trucks use, don't take much damage from a few kilometers of bare road in a tunnell. Rocking. Automatic? They kind of suck at this.(Fingers crossed that I don't have to do this as my current car is an electric, and so only has automatic.) Weight of the vehicle also plays a role. You want inertia to help out. Were there any truckers among those who passed you? Most of those visiting Nordkapp at that time of year are forreigners. Some people with smaller cars may have decided that their car wouldn't be strong enough to help tow you out. But stopping and asking if there's anything they could do would still be the decent thing to do. But yeah, common sense and empathy is a finite resource, and with more and more people living in Norway, some end up without any at all. Incidentally, in the user manual for my car, the only thing they write about towing another vehicle is 'don't'... Have you seen the channel Mispronounced Adventures ? In a recent episode he went even further North...
@@norwegiangadgetman That is not the issue. The issue is the looooong tunnels of many km's. They just come and go, and you don't see them coming all the time in the snow. Let alone find a place to take them off, and put them on again after the tunnel.
At 19:16 he says you can’t stop in the middle of the road on a hill top. You are clearly not in the middle of the road, but you are standing still on top of a hill which can lead to dangerous passings. It’s something we don’t do, especially during the winter months. I just went to that location on Google Maps, because I couldn't remember it being on an actual hilltop. But when you move away from this point, and then look back, he does have a point. You could have used the locking eye of the trunk as a towing eye 😋 Most Scandinavians i know drive with studded tires in winter and they just drive at normal speeds with those. They’re used to driving those conditions too. Awesome video! Enjoyed it very much!
Would the locking eye have hold you think? I don't think it's able to disperse the force to the chassis. About the studded tyres, I investigated about this before I left, but there's no way to take them with me, and no way of mounting them there for an unknown route for a roadtrip. But I survived! 🙏🏻😏

Nice video! If you are stuck on a hill you can try going in reverse it may sound funny, but it works. About tires you need some soft winter tires it will makes big difference on ice, even chines sailun tires willl be good inaf. About rims thats somting new for me, I knew that in deep snow you can get snow in them, but by driving on snowy road get them that full was realy myster.

Als je geen grip hebt op een helling, kun je proberen om dit in zijn achteruit te doen. Hierdoor heb je het gewicht van het motorblok op de aangedreven wielen en dus meer grip. Dit heeft mij ook eens uit de brand geholpen in het mooie Noorwegen👍🏻
Epic Journey, thanks for sharing, You have a new subscriber. I'm living in a cold place, in order to not snow stuck on wheel, we are using steel rims and a rim cover in winter, aluminum rims on the summer so one car two rim and tyre set. Second your cars tires Petlas Snowmaster, produced by Turkish Company. Snowmaster is good in light snow and decent lifespan. But if you are using this tyres on the North it will give you a dizzy and unstable car. Best suitable Petlas tyre for this journey would be Petlas Glacier W661 or Nokian Hakkapeliitta but after 5000 km in Netherlands both of them shredded, becuse they made it for full snow and ice.
At the end of this episode there's some shots of the next video. This time I was really careful not to use content too far away, because that would force me to make a longer video than I want to, and thus longer editing time. So you'll get a shorter video next time, but should be a lot quicker than it took this one. I'm still learning, so please forgive me it took so long for the latest video.
Amazing content, what an adventure, I only live in the UK but always carry a couple of plastic ground waffles, they take up little space and have saved me and others from all types of ground when stuck, often can be picked up on eBay used for a low cost. I was in Tromsø a couple of years ago to do some filming at a submarine base a few miles away, so I know some of the conditions you experienced. Very good your channel, I would have tried to put tires like off the road if there is a type for snow, chains for the tires, I would try to use the wood for the fire to get out of the hole and the snow stuck under the car must be making it shake, I'm really enjoying your adventure and I'm looking forward to watching more, I really like this content, a hug and I expect more content like this from your channel.
So many challenges in such a short time. Hats off to you for your perseverance. Personally, I wouldn't travel there around the shortest day because of the dangers of driving in the dark. I always tell myself and others never to drive in the dark in Scandinavia. Until last year I left Ostersund in the dark and a deer hit the side of my car. Fortunately without damage. Driving in the snow is so tiring because you can't afford any kind of steering error. Once stuck in the snow, it often means that you really get stuck and that you need help from others to get out. Funny thing is that in February 2020 I helped drag some locals out of the roadside in Abisko, Sweden. Digging out and pushing with three men didn't help. Only with my car in front of it and a few attempts later it worked. Yes, in general those Scandinavians are a bit stiff and on their own. But there are also plenty of positive exceptions.And you hit one of those when you were stuck. By the way, did you still have to pay at the entrance to the North Cape when you arrived there at night? If I remember well I paid over €25,- a few years ago. Anyway, I can't wait to see the next episode of your adventure.
In an ideal world, that would make life a lot easier indeed. But it's forbidden to drive on those in NL and Germany. Denmark I don't know. So I would have to rent the tires there next time 😅
@@ZoefontheMove There are tires that have prepared holes for you to be able to screw studs in yourself when you need them, and take them out when you don't. I'm currently researching for a tour around the baltic next year in February and these are definitely going on my shopping list.
One tip for driving in the snow and ice: take off the traction control at low speeds. It might sound counter intuitive, but getting up that hill would have worked better that way. Plenty of revs and wheelspin does the trick😊
Also, reversing up with a front engine, front wheel drive car gives quite a bit more traction 👍🏼

Great video, I enjoyed it very much.💯 I have similar trips to the north in my thoughts but so far there hasn't been the opportunity and the courage.. your courage is huge! I myself own a Skoda Citigo, the "brother" of the VW Up and I know how easy it is to get stuck in deeper snow or steep hills... Actually, it's a car totally unsuitable for such a journey and that's the fun and challenge. 😀👍🏻
Great video! I would never do it without studded tires (aka "spikes"). Crazy:) BTW: I think the doors in the tunnels are also to keep the reindeer out.
@@ZoefontheMove I do those trips fairly often! I am actually on one at the moment. In Germany right now heading home from Albania, I have indeed slept in the car most night of my journeys but not comfortable😂 I have used chains once, worked fine but that means no faster than 10/15km/h

if you’re coming north in winter get yourself proper tires, especially without 4wheel drive you need studded tires. too many tourists think they can just drive around wherever and then getting in accidents
There is no way to mount studded tires in the Netherlands, and drive up to the north. And mounting tires there for an unplanned roadtrip is not an option as well. Just be extra careful and drive slow, no need to keep up with the locals.
41:41 You can see those are central European friction mild winter asymmetrical street tyres... on a FWD car: that's way way way distant from an optimal set-up for such a journey. Half of the adventure is given merely by that! xD
My god, I made the journey Stockholm-Grense Jakobselv-North Cape-Lofoten and all the coast down last summer in my campervan and many times I asked myself how that trip could have looked like in the winter, well - now I know :D

Dat was mijn eigen constatering, en werd er later door een aantal mensen onderweg op gewezen. Kon het kenteken van die bus niet lezen, maar ik denk dat ze daar niet vandaan kwamen. Ook roadtrippers denk ik.
De Noren zijn niet zo ‘bemoeizuchtig’ als wij in Nederland gewend zijn. Ze willen je niet storen waar jij op dat moment mee bezig bent. Maar wanneer je de Noor aanspreekt dan ‘ontdooien’ ze.😊
You could just find out the dump truck company's detail and give them a call. I bet you they know who drove that truck that day (you can give them the license plate number on the truck) and then send the gift to the company address so they can give it to their drivers :)

Oh wow! That is such a good idea! You're the first that comes up with a solution for that! Is that how most of the people do it there? And do you have to put the wax there only once, or every once in a while?
@@ZoefontheMove I usually put a layer when I wash the wheels for storage in spring time, then another layer putting them back on in October (usually). Also, some rims are simply not ideal for snow. It looks like the circles in your rims tend to collect allot of snow. As for wax I use Swisswax Autobahn. Side note. Few Norwegians dear to drive that route during these conditions, even with a proper car. It’s tiresome and not fun at all. Doing it all in a UP deserves an award. The worst conditions hits around +2 to 0 C, as the snow is wet, sticky, restricts visibility and can lead to to hydroplaning (expect in slushy snow). It’s horrible. It must have been a real challenge in this car. Cheers
Keep the keyfob in the inner pocket of the jacket. When the wheels start slipping. Dont continue as you do as the spinning wheels polish the snow to ice like surface. Do you have real winter tyres on? If mud and snow tyres they are not as good. You can also pull in the rear rim to get unstuck.
Yup, not the correct car, unless you want an extra challenge or two 🤠 Before, almost everybody used to carry snowchains in their cars for atleast one axle and so should you. Will get you out of a lot of trouble! Nowadays on the other hand "everybody" is driving electric cars and needs to be rescued from their car by the emergency services and red cross due to the battery emptying so they don't have any heating anymore 😂 Sadly the world is chaning ..... I still have a Land Cruiser diesel with proper chains to all four tires, just in case ... Usually also stop and offer help to people stuck or driven off the road if I have time. I don't think the other drivers are driving that fast, just you that are driving slow, evident by using double the time of what google maps suggest. You probably don't have proper "arctic" winter tires but European winter tires wich is obly considered "all season" tires here in Norway. Really isn't usable with our winter environment. You will also experience that at -30°C you have much better grip than at -2°C, the colder it gets, the better the traction. At -30°C even summer tires have some grip, but wouldn't advice driving on summer tires! You have probably learned a lot of "lessons" from your winter arctic "expedition" that you can implement on your next winter adveture. Best of luck on your next one 🤠
The VW Up! manual does not mention the presence of a rear towing eye. It only refers to the front towing eye. There is nothing on the rear of the car as well.

Thank you so much! 💯 Idling went fine, only thing I noticed was the bubbling sound from the exhaust. It's not great for the car, but sometimes I had to.
@@PT-mj3bk To be honest, the engine works really well. Although it had a really hard time in Switzerland with climbing the mountains. More worrying is a rattle from the gearbox. The shifting also makes noise, like there's gear wheels are loose. People say it's normal for the Up untill 2014, when they put in better gearboxes.
bit late maybe. but would just stuffing a lot of snow in the rims keep them balanced? that way there can't build up more snow and you can just leave it.

7:41 on 2x speed, astonished by the female's English then I rewinded to find that she is a custom officer instead of a traffic warden. But that still amazed me, gives good first impression of Norway.
Overall, people were very good at speaking English. They did not even try speaking their own language to me. Something you see a lot in the south of Europe.

The North Cape with it's "monument" is NOT the northernmost on the European mainland / continent .....since it's located on an island named Magerøya. You even drove through a 6,7 km long under-the-sea tunnel to get out to that island. The northernmost point on the European continent is named Kinnarodden near Mehamn some 70 km further east in air distance. "The road is the worst you ever... ....and there is nobody to call for help...". Well....I would rather say that there is nothing wrong with the road ....only there is some seriously wrong with the driver and his equipment ....which is unfit and illegal to put on the road. You obvious don't understand that both conditions and some law regulations require you to be properly equipped for being on the road. I can only say it's totally irresponsible. ....and what was the problem with being out there "on your own".... Dude the whole way you have 5G mobile phone coverage.... You can make a phone call to whoever for help ....at any time. So stop spreading false info. The last thing we need is such people on the road.

You've probably figured this out, but the diesel in the heater will probably have gelled (frozen) if you were using normal diesel.

And learn to fit them before setting out on a trip. It's no fun trying to figure it out when the car's well and truly stuck and the weather is trying its best to kill you.
I have Thule Easy-fit CU-9 series chains. They're bl**dy expensive, but can be installed in seconds. You can find cheap chains that's barely 10% of the price, but they're a bit more finnicky to install.
If you see a snow plow heading in the direction you want, FOLLOW IT! They may not move very fast, but it's the safest way to travel.
ABS and anti-skid is GREAT for winter driving. In my opinion, it's usually better than 4WD without ABS.
In heavy snow I don't use the high beams at all; the light reflecting back from the snow just destroys visibility.
When you see someone stuck in the snow you help them, with no expectation of a reward. Because the next time it can be you who need the help. Pay it forward.
You might have been able to get out of that hole if you had put on snow chains immediately. Maybe.
One technique that sometimes work is rocking the car back and forth quickly. But then you need to be very careful with the throttle. Just get a tiny movement forward, then slam it in reverse and get it to move back the same distance or a few mm more, then forward again. But it needs to be done with no spinning.
Spinning the wheels just digs you deeper and polishes ice.
Your Up is a bit more difficult to get out by yourself because of the very low ground clearance. It's much easier for it to end up with the bottom of the car resting on snow than for many other cars.
Another tool that could have helped is 'snow ladders'. Basically platic or metal mesh in that pattern used on stairs and walkways. wedge those as tightly under the wheels as you can to pull out.

Tires
The tires are with MS logo, but the compound is way to hard for Arctic adventures. I was not aware of difference between our winter tires, and theirs.
Chains
I can’t use chains because of the long tunnels all the time, so socks would be a solution for sure.
High Beams
At the time I was not sure about how the quality of all the footage would be at night, so I often used the high beams to let the camera capture more of the image. More light = less grain.
Help
In the next episode you’ll see each and every driver passing me without offering help. At North Cape many cars passed me there as well. The van stopping at North Cape was a foreign one I assume.
Ground clearance
You’re correct about the low ground clearance of the Up, this really did not work in my advantage. Most of the times the wheels were spinning, it was resting on the floor and I wanted to illustrate on camera the situation.
Back and forth
Rocking the car back and forth was impossible due to the gears of this car not being able to change that quickly. I tried, and it didn’t like that 😉

regular 'fast' chains with wires you hook together behind the wheels are a bit more cumbersome, and can take a couple of minutes, assuming you're not already stuck. But they're not meant for a 'permanent' install, and neither is the snowsocks. Snowsocks goes on very quickly, though, and can be removed just as easily. Anyway, you only use them when the road conditions warrants it.
Solid chains, though, such as busses, lorries and trucks use, don't take much damage from a few kilometers of bare road in a tunnell.
Rocking. Automatic? They kind of suck at this.(Fingers crossed that I don't have to do this as my current car is an electric, and so only has automatic.) Weight of the vehicle also plays a role. You want inertia to help out.
Were there any truckers among those who passed you?
Most of those visiting Nordkapp at that time of year are forreigners.
Some people with smaller cars may have decided that their car wouldn't be strong enough to help tow you out. But stopping and asking if there's anything they could do would still be the decent thing to do.
But yeah, common sense and empathy is a finite resource, and with more and more people living in Norway, some end up without any at all.
Incidentally, in the user manual for my car, the only thing they write about towing another vehicle is 'don't'...

@@norwegiangadgetman That is not the issue. The issue is the looooong tunnels of many km's. They just come and go, and you don't see them coming all the time in the snow. Let alone find a place to take them off, and put them on again after the tunnel.

At 19:16 he says you can’t stop in the middle of the road on a hill top. You are clearly not in the middle of the road, but you are standing still on top of a hill which can lead to dangerous passings. It’s something we don’t do, especially during the winter months.

About the studded tyres, I investigated about this before I left, but there's no way to take them with me, and no way of mounting them there for an unknown route for a roadtrip. But I survived! 🙏🏻😏

If you are stuck on a hill you can try going in reverse it may sound funny, but it works. About tires you need some soft winter tires it will makes big difference on ice, even chines sailun tires willl be good inaf. About rims thats somting new for me, I knew that in deep snow you can get snow in them, but by driving on snowy road get them that full was realy myster.
Long wait but now i will enjoy my evening with some candy and m&m's and learn from you because i also already wanted to drive to the northern light with my car!

I'm living in a cold place, in order to not snow stuck on wheel, we are using steel rims and a rim cover in winter, aluminum rims on the summer so one car two rim and tyre set. Second your cars tires Petlas Snowmaster, produced by Turkish Company. Snowmaster is good in light snow and decent lifespan. But if you are using this tyres on the North it will give you a dizzy and unstable car. Best suitable Petlas tyre for this journey would be Petlas Glacier W661 or Nokian Hakkapeliitta but after 5000 km in Netherlands both of them shredded, becuse they made it for full snow and ice.

So many challenges in such a short time. Hats off to you for your perseverance. Personally, I wouldn't travel there around the shortest day because of the dangers of driving in the dark. I always tell myself and others never to drive in the dark in Scandinavia. Until last year I left Ostersund in the dark and a deer hit the side of my car. Fortunately without damage.
Driving in the snow is so tiring because you can't afford any kind of steering error. Once stuck in the snow, it often means that you really get stuck and that you need help from others to get out. Funny thing is that in February 2020 I helped drag some locals out of the roadside in Abisko, Sweden. Digging out and pushing with three men didn't help. Only with my car in front of it and a few attempts later it worked.
Yes, in general those Scandinavians are a bit stiff and on their own. But there are also plenty of positive exceptions.And you hit one of those when you were stuck.
By the way, did you still have to pay at the entrance to the North Cape when you arrived there at night? If I remember well I paid over €25,- a few years ago.
Anyway, I can't wait to see the next episode of your adventure.
Pro tip! Get studded tires when you do this trip. Makes night and day difference. That’s why the locals drive so fast :)
In an ideal world, that would make life a lot easier indeed. But it's forbidden to drive on those in NL and Germany. Denmark I don't know. So I would have to rent the tires there next time 😅
@@ZoefontheMove There are tires that have prepared holes for you to be able to screw studs in yourself when you need them, and take them out when you don't. I'm currently researching for a tour around the baltic next year in February and these are definitely going on my shopping list.

One tip for driving in the snow and ice: take off the traction control at low speeds. It might sound counter intuitive, but getting up that hill would have worked better that way. Plenty of revs and wheelspin does the trick😊

if you’re coming north in winter get yourself proper tires, especially without 4wheel drive you need studded tires. too many tourists think they can just drive around wherever and then getting in accidents
There is no way to mount studded tires in the Netherlands, and drive up to the north.
And mounting tires there for an unplanned roadtrip is not an option as well.
Just be extra careful and drive slow, no need to keep up with the locals.

I am very proud of having the same car up which can tolerate under harsh circumstance.
It wasn't all smooth sailing, as you'll see in the next videos 😅 And I was the slowest car on the road there.
My god, I made the journey Stockholm-Grense Jakobselv-North Cape-Lofoten and all the coast down last summer in my campervan and many times I asked myself how that trip could have looked like in the winter, well - now I know :D

Oh wow! That is such a good idea! You're the first that comes up with a solution for that! Is that how most of the people do it there? And do you have to put the wax there only once, or every once in a while?
@@ZoefontheMove I usually put a layer when I wash the wheels for storage in spring time, then another layer putting them back on in October (usually). Also, some rims are simply not ideal for snow. It looks like the circles in your rims tend to collect allot of snow. As for wax I use Swisswax Autobahn.
Side note. Few Norwegians dear to drive that route during these conditions, even with a proper car. It’s tiresome and not fun at all. Doing it all in a UP deserves an award.
The worst conditions hits around +2 to 0 C, as the snow is wet, sticky, restricts visibility and can lead to to hydroplaning (expect in slushy snow). It’s horrible. It must have been a real challenge in this car. Cheers
Using wrong time of rims for the winter.
Keep the keyfob in the inner pocket of the jacket.
When the wheels start slipping. Dont continue as you do as the spinning wheels polish the snow to ice like surface.
Do you have real winter tyres on? If mud and snow tyres they are not as good.
You can also pull in the rear rim to get unstuck.
Oh it's KEYFOB instead of KEYKNOB. What a blunder I've made 😂
Tyres have the M&S symbol on it. But the rubber compound is too hard in western Europe.

Before, almost everybody used to carry snowchains in their cars for atleast one axle and so should you. Will get you out of a lot of trouble!
Nowadays on the other hand "everybody" is driving electric cars and needs to be rescued from their car by the emergency services and red cross due to the battery emptying so they don't have any heating anymore 😂

I still have a Land Cruiser diesel with proper chains to all four tires, just in case ...
Usually also stop and offer help to people stuck or driven off the road if I have time.
I don't think the other drivers are driving that fast, just you that are driving slow, evident by using double the time of what google maps suggest. You probably don't have proper "arctic" winter tires but European winter tires wich is obly considered "all season" tires here in Norway. Really isn't usable with our winter environment.
You will also experience that at -30°C you have much better grip than at -2°C, the colder it gets, the better the traction. At -30°C even summer tires have some grip, but wouldn't advice driving on summer tires!
You have probably learned a lot of "lessons" from your winter arctic "expedition" that you can implement on your next winter adveture.

43:16 If you look in the manual then there will a page where you can look up how to get to the rear tow hook.
The VW Up! manual does not mention the presence of a rear towing eye. It only refers to the front towing eye. There is nothing on the rear of the car as well.

More worrying is a rattle from the gearbox. The shifting also makes noise, like there's gear wheels are loose.
People say it's normal for the Up untill 2014, when they put in better gearboxes.
bit late maybe. but would just stuffing a lot of snow in the rims keep them balanced? that way there can't build up more snow and you can just leave it.
That way it would be even more out of balance, as you cannot put the exact same density and amount on each place.

It was hanging on the bottom of the car, so the the wheels were hanging in the air. With or without chains.
Why not use snow chains?
Because there's a lot of tunnels, which are multiple km's long. And there is no place to remove the chains before them.

19:45 mate the elderly man man Sad you should not stop just before a hill as it takes time to stop on slippery surface and you are dificult to spot ,so asking for accident really. I am from Norway and wish you the best but driving up North is culture ,you need to learn, and you dont know how to be careful, ask locals , and get knowledge. and bye the best tires you can get as it saves lifes.

The North Cape with it's "monument" is NOT the northernmost on the European mainland / continent .....since it's located on an island named Magerøya. You even drove through a 6,7 km long under-the-sea tunnel to get out to that island. The northernmost point on the European continent is named Kinnarodden near Mehamn some 70 km further east in air distance.
"The road is the worst you ever... ....and there is nobody to call for help...". Well....I would rather say that there is nothing wrong with the road ....only there is some seriously wrong with the driver and his equipment ....which is unfit and illegal to put on the road. You obvious don't understand that both conditions and some law regulations require you to be properly equipped for being on the road. I can only say it's totally irresponsible.
....and what was the problem with being out there "on your own".... Dude the whole way you have 5G mobile phone coverage.... You can make a phone call to whoever for help ....at any time.
So stop spreading false info. The last thing we need is such people on the road.
