Loved staying on Fremont Street where we always came home with a profit from the slots. Golden Nugget and their pool areas were our days & at night the party on the street. I hope someday to go back again.
I agree with you slot play on the strip is short and depressing. I’ve gone to Vegas to the strip 8 times and haven’t seen one payout to anyone. I’ve gone to Fremont on my last trip and saw 2 payouts and myself had a lot of fun playing because the seem to let you have some fun with your money. I think I won some money but I know I hadn’t lost.
I now walk with a cane. I’m lucky if I get out of bed.😝 When I was 16, I walked all over Vegas and the strip but back then there was nothing for a minor to do except go to coffee shops in the casinos. On Saturdays I used to walk down to the Showboat and watch televised bowling on ABC live and then I would go to a mini mall, buy used books, go to Baskin Robbins and across from our apartment was a 7-11 & I practically drank an ocean of Slurpees. During the week I would take my books, walk to the Fremont & have dinner in the coffe shop & do my homework & go home. A family friendvwas the slots manager & he would comp my dinner. I also used to go to the Brodway shopping center on Maryland Parkway and used to eat at the Bonanza steak house which was where they built the MGM Grand. When it was too hot my parents were getting the car and they drive me to the casino I would shit like hobby shop or just walk around and watch thing you could walk around the casinos you just couldn’t gamble if you were a minor and I would also go sit by the pool and watch people I loved watching walking through the casinos Never knew what you were going to see if someone will be shooting craps or playing blackjack or yelling and screaming it was exciting and different for a young kid.
I went to Vegas for the first time in October. I was told to stay downtown and definitely glad I did. It was a blast and had so much fun. We stayed at the Plaza, it wasnt loud since we were on the backside. We went to the strip for 1 night and didnt enjoy it at all. When I go back it will always be Fremont St.
Thanks for the video! We stayed at El Cortez on our last trip and we’ll never stay on the strip again! Highly recommend Le Thai, Pizza Rock, 8 East, and Atomic Liquors. The buffet at Main Street Station was surprisingly great for the price. Loved the Neon Sign Museum. Nacho Daddy was overrated in my opinion. Some of the most fun to be had gambling in all of Las Vegas is Sigma Derby at the D.
It's easier to get hammered and stumble back to your room. We stayed at Binions back in October and it was our first time staying on Fremont. Hands down will be doing it again next time I come out. And they have the Sigma Derby game upstairs at The D!!
As much as I love Fremont, there is one thing you need to keep in mind that CAN be considered a negative. It's loud. There are not many hotel rooms that are quiet if you want to sleep before 3AM. The south tower of the Golden Nugget are good, especially if you are in a south facing room. The El Cortez tower facing north is pretty good. Maybe the new rooms at Circa might be better insulated for sound? No idea.
Getting a quiet room is as easy as making the request when you make the reservation. The best rates are on Priceline which has a Special Requests field where you can request a quiet room, a refrigerator, coffee maker, even extra pillows. Downtown hotels are happy to honor requests.
You had me at White Castle! But in all seriousness, I stayed at the 4 Queens in 2009 for 3 nights for under $18/night with all taxes and fees included. I'll probably never get a deal like that again. I haven't been back to Vegas since then, but it looks like downtown has improved quite a bit since I was there. I was looking forward to going there in January, but the wedding got canceled.
The worst part about being a local is getting requests from friends/family to meet them on the strip when they visit Vegas. Best part about being a local, is showing said friends/family how cool Fremont Street is. When they come back to Vegas, they always stay at a casino on Fremont instead of the strip.
downtown was my first experience for vegas. that was back in 2012. i bussed down to the strip and walked from one end to the other and back to downtown which was not a good idea LOL! i spent about 100 something on bottle water and when i got back to the nugget i dropped 20 in a slots to and won 100 so I was happy.... i dont know whats changed but i wouldn't mind going back and staying somewhere along the strip the next time i visit.
You are also fairly close to the Arts District and the Outlet Mall, and there is a FREE shuttle bus that routes through/past those and Fremont St. About 1 1/2 miles away from Fremont St. is the Neon Museum - recommend driving there as walking there you go through some really sketchy areas. Ther is the Mob Museum, The Jerky Store, and tucked slightly off Fremont St, is a great toy store. Also within walking distance of the Container Park. Even if you are staying on the Strip, get a bus pass and take the bus down (The Deuce), head to the upper level for a better view. Bonus they sell booze at streetside bars!
One of my grandest memories in life was the time I drove a Mustang convertible (with the top lowered, of course) down Fremont Street at night. (Fremont was one-way, traveling from southeast to northwest, ending at Main Street.) You could actually feel the heat coming off the signs in front of the casinos from all the incandescent lights. It was an otherworldly experience. This was in 1992; I believe Fremont Street was closed off in 1994. Las Vegas may have gotten glitzier, but not really better.
I love DT LV! Occasionally, I fly in on Saturday when rates are higher on the strip. SO...I stay in Four Queens 1 night & spend all night on Fremont St! The rest of the week I'm on the strip.
I stayed on the strip for years and just recently tried staying downtown at Circa. Well, now I’m hooked. Circa is a strip priced hotel, but it’s very nice and feet are not killing you at the end of the day from walking. If your games of choice are the tables, your money will go further downtown with the lower minimums (except for Circa) and you have access to so many different casinos. You can always take the deuce or a cab down to the strip if you want. We just got went in November and it was a blast. Downtown is great!
U should also consider short term condo/time share rentals. We rent a 2 br apt usually a few blocks off the strip where we have a full kitchen and free parking, no resort fees, and quiet.
Stayed at the Plaza, the last time I was there. No noise issues at all and great hotel. Two things we did that you missed was what kind of entertainment is downtown. We saw Mike Hammer at the Four Queens and it was well worth it and enjoyable. I cant remember the name of the bus but there was also a free mini bus that we got that took us around the art district and then we stopped at the outlet mall for some shopping.
Lived in Vegas from 1968-1970. I still call it Old Vegas or old town. But I’m old too at 69 years of age. So much of what I knew is gone except for downtown & Caesars, Circus Circus & the MGM Grand.
Very informative, great job I use to live in the downtown area back in the late 70's-84, when the place was one of the most dangerous places on planet earth.
We stayed at El Cortez for two nights in February. We had a great time walking down Fremont and casino hopping, but we started in the eary morning before it got too noisy or crowded. Magnolia's in Four Queens is still a great place to eat.
I finally talked my wife into staying on Fremont. We usually stay somewhere on the Strip, but end up spending more time on Fremont anyways. We'll be staying at the Nugget in September. Requested a quiet room.
Consider a short term apartment rental. You can get a 1 br with a full kitchen a block or 2 off the strip. Google condo or time share rentals. We stopped staying in Vegas hotels many years ago. It's nice to have a full 1 or 2 br apt.
Don't forget Axehole down on Fremont. Axe, spear, star throwing with my friends was some of the most fun we had on our entire trip! And make sure to eat at Pizza Rock.
I've been to Vegas twice. 2019 and last year. 1st year I stayed at Four Queens and last year stayed at Circa. My room at Four Queens was on the 14th floor but it was on the side where the stage was located. I didn't care since I'm a night person anyway. My room at Circa was on the side opposite of Fremont but you could still hear the bands playing. One quick tip though is that if you want to save some money hit the liquor store on Fremont then grab a coffee cup on your way to the room. Dark coffee cups work well in hiding alcoholic beverages (just saying 🥃).
Great video Jacob. I've been following your channel for 2 years now. Your best videos are when you actually go to the places you are talking about. I loved it. Make more videos going around and talk about the place that's the strength 💪 of your channel. Take care.
The D and Circa, thank you Derick Stevens. The Freemont Experience, 3 live bands, Mob Museum etc. A fun carnival !!! Use to stay at the Venetian. When in Vega$ now, we hang out and stay at the "D".
My wife and I always stay on Fremont. We just got back and Stayed at Circa and it was an amazing new Casino and Hotel. We also stay at Plaza and The Golden Nugget.

99 cent shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate. Fried Twinkies somewhere on Fremont along with other carnival foods. Binion's used to have 3.99 steak and eggs breakfast after 11 PM in the 90's but I think that special and even the basement diner are gone now.
Try a soup kitchen on your next trip. I take my family to the one that is near a Goodwill up by the Stratosphere. I feed a family of 5 for less than $20....
The one benefit of walking downtown that he didn't mention is the protection from the hot sunshine during the summer! Fremont offers shade that you just don't get on the strip ⛱ Also, you can find free or validated parking much easier downtown, besides reduced or no resort fees on rooms. Yes, some hotels are not sound proof and the noisy sounds from the shows will turn some folks off trying to sleep. But the hotels do offer ear plugs to help.
Hotel are a bit dated as expected and noise can be loud and an issue at night depending on which side of the hotel you're at but a great experience for being near all the action and fun!
There is something magical about seeing coins come out when you play the slots, reminds me of simpler times. I am coming in August and staying on strip but will def devote one whole day to downtown. Thanks for the videos.
I stayed on Fremont due to the Hostel being located there as well. I visited the Strip but my heart was taken by Fremont. And yes I walked everywhere including walking the entire Strip (I took the Deuce home). The Strip was fascinating but the stores/shops I wanted to go to were near Fremont. I figure the El Cortez is my next destination because the cost of the hostel was the same as a room.
The one time I stayed downtown I booked a couple nights at four Queens and during the first night I ended up canceling the rest of my trip and rebooked at sunset station because it was seriously way too loud. There are a lot of fun places down there I'm not going to lie and if I ever did stay downtown again I would probably stay at the Golden Nugget
The best pizza I ever had in my whole life and I’m old was on Fremont Street. It is a great place to spend time. I would recommend it to anyone. I intend to go there again over and over. I think that even the casinos are looser and you can win more money.
One of best things on Fremont Street is that the Experience is now an all day thing. I’m staying at the Plaza in May, and dedicating one day of the three to downtown; I highly recommend checking out Circa and The D, as I’ll be playing there pretty much the entire time.
Great point on the walk-ability of Fremont….but with that comes interactions with street actors, bodegas crowding the area under the canopy and loud music, depending on what time of day you stop by. Still it’s a must do for anyone visiting town, I think.
Been to Vegas many times but I'm visiting my sister in Summerlin in one month and this is the first time I'm staying downtown. Thank you for this video!!
1. You don't spend half your day walking. 2. Food prices are more reasonable 3. Better gaming conditions 4. Live music 5. Hotel check in never takes more than 15 minutes. Honestly unless it's a first trip, you're looking for lots of over the top luxury, you play live poker, or you're looking for a nightclub scene you should really give downtown a shot. There are some really nice rooms available at the Golden Nugget in the Rush Tower and at Circa. If you're a really light sleeper stay a half block away at Downtown Grand, California, or Main Street Station. I've spend a couple hundred days in downtown hotels. On an extended trip it's easy to jump between comp offers, just walk a couple minutes to the next hotel.
I’m probably always going to stay on the strip but I love to make my way down to Fremont Street during my stay it is something very cool about it in a lot of great stuff to see And the D Is one of my favorite casinos to play at
I almost always stay at Plaza when I go to Vegas. Best value, best price IMO. Usually you can get a room far enough away from the Freemont st so its quite.
Great advice I stayed at plaza and last week I went to the D it’s loud I asked for a room on the other side of the D. She said no so I asked for the highest floor and it was ok up there.
I'm Canadian. I don't know if Americans realize this, but the Canadian dollar is only worth 80 cents American. That means that when we translate Las Vegas prices to Canadian dollars things get unbelievably expensive. I will be staying downtown at the Four Queens (no resort fee plus location, location location). I can afford to visit the Strip, but I will be spending my Canadian money downtown where it will go a bit further.Oh, and I have a degree in History. I will be doing some research at the Mob Museum and the El Cortez.
@@bicpapermate Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I'm curious about the resort fee thing currently, without an advance reservation. Also wondering, were there any mask/vax requirements of guests?
We absolutely love Freemont Street! We've stayed at the Nugget and will be staying at the Plaza next during the Super Bowl!! Great content as always Jacob!!!
It can take 15 minutes to walk from one strip property to the next. In 15 minutes, you can walk all of Fremont Street and see all the action.. Cooler during the summer too.
Really helped with the sun in August being under the shade in Fremont. Didn’t realise golden nugget had shark tank slide. Recommend nacho daddy for the scorpion shot 🦂 Hog and heathers for fun nighttime bar.
I love Downtown Vegas!!! Everything is much closer together, so less walking!! July 4th weekend was crazy though!! There was a shooting right in front of White Castle and they closed everything down!!
Great video. Was wondering about this area. Can see why the locals like it better. Not as many tourists! Simpler. Also cheaper. The Mob Museum looks interesting. I personally love more character in a place. The Strip can be good to just see at times out of curiosity. But to stay it would be better in this area. So that way you can see both worlds. Fremont and The Strip.
We enjoy staying at Freemont. It's not for everyone...but we enjoy it. I think of it almost as a separate destination than the strip. Just do some research and know what to expect.
The downside about staying in downtown Fremont Street is the parking. If you’re staying at the Golden Nugget for example you have to get there early to find parking. Everyone that works at the Casino‘s downtown have to park at other garages at other hotels they cannot park at the one they work at🤪 so you are in competition with everyone else for parking. Plus the locals and you have a huge issue and a busy night especially Friday and Saturday.
Mr J , when able plz do a review or footage of Main st just South of Charleston Blvd . That area has a facelift. I had a BLAST shopping, then attended the Comedy Club, then dinner at two locations and live music etc. Spent 6hrs there 😮
Thanks!

We have stayed at the 4 Queens & Fremont, now we stay at The Plaza. We like Fremont Street for all the reasons Jacob mention. Will be back in Feb
Thank you I think I'm going to be staying on Fremont Street in February I've been on the strip many times time for a change
The north tower is being renovated. The south tower is open and less noisy.
The best pizza I ever had in my whole life and I’m old was on Fremont Street. It is a great place to spend time. I would recommend it to anyone. I intend to go there again over and over. I think that even the casinos are looser and you can win more money.
Pizza Rock or Evel Pie?
hey, even them $1 pizzas from SASSY SALLY'S kicked butt !! ✌️ ... and me personally , downtown Vegas is way better than The Strip !! 😚💨💨💨
I so love Freemont street. My home away from home.
Always have a fun time on Fremont. Even if you are just into people watching, you will not be disappointed.
I loved Fremont on my first trip there... But I think me being there for 4 days is a bit too long... Maybe a quick weekend would work..
Been to Vegas many times but I'm visiting my sister in Summerlin in one month and this is the first time I'm staying downtown. Thank you for this video!!
Summerlin has the beautiful Red Rock Casino resort as well as one of the Station casinos. Great food at the Red Rock.
Nice pool also.
In December, ill be at Four Queens, The last time I stayed downtown was at the Lady Luck in the 80s.
Thanks, I took some notes.
Visiting with some non-gambling friends and they'll enjoy the other sides of Downtown Las Vegas.
I’m probably always going to stay on the strip but I love to make my way down to Fremont Street during my stay it is something very cool about it in a lot of great stuff to see And the D Is one of my favorite casinos to play at
thanks great video as always
could you do a video on best hotels thier
Thank you great information ☺️
Glad it was helpful!
Great video and info. Thanks
Glad it was helpful TT!
Good advise! Thank you! I was looking staying at the Strips, this seems a good idea
You're welcome Evanss! It's a nice change of pace
Jacob is getting jacked and shredded.
Bonus is Downtown Arts district is close to Freemont has good grub/bars things to do as well.
Thanks for another great video.
De nada Chef!
Great info Jacob!!
Great tips Jacob, I’m taking my younger brother for his 21st in about 2 weeks and we will definitely be stopping here.
Great content as always!
Stayed at the the D Hotel and the noise was bad at nite. Learned the hard way.
Well done, Jacob. Keep up the great reporting 👍
Love this video. I've only been to Vegas 5 times but I always go downtown for at least a day.
As you mentioned... the 6/5 Blackjack is what is going to make me start staying Downtown
Jacob..as usual..good video..you never disappoint. Thanks!..remember.."Don't shoot the horse's".
You do a great job on these videos.
Still no resort fee there? If you don't mind me asking, what was total price of your room for the night, all fees, taxes, surcharges, included?
@@broadcasttttable Weekdays it was about $50, weekends were around $120.
@@bicpapermate Wow, that's a steal. Wonder about now, May 2022.
@@broadcasttttable I was there in April. Of course I made the reservations last December. Oh, and I am over 55 so I had a 15% discount.
@@bicpapermate Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I'm curious about the resort fee thing currently, without an advance reservation. Also wondering, were there any mask/vax requirements of guests?
I love downtown Vegas!
One of your best videos
10:20 Kinda like what locals think of Waikiki Beach. Waikiki is not the 'be all and end all' of the island of Oahu.
This is some of the best advice I have ever heard! Next time I go to Vegas I'm staying on Fremont street!
I actually visited Fremont Street but I was staying on the strip.
I'm hoping to go there this year. And stay on Fremont. 👍
@@charliegirl123 sounds fun! You will enjoy it. Check out Binions.
@@Twobarpsi thanks for the reply
I love Fremont street!! My last visit was 2018 beeing on vacation from Sweden🇸🇪
Really helped with the sun in August being under the shade in Fremont.
Didn’t realise golden nugget had shark tank slide.
Recommend nacho daddy for the scorpion shot 🦂
Hog and heathers for fun nighttime bar.
I love Downtown Vegas!!! Everything is much closer together, so less walking!! July 4th weekend was crazy though!! There was a shooting right in front of White Castle and they closed everything down!!
Wow!
We love Fremont St. It has a lot things we are looking for slots, food and great drinks for a reasonable price.
Yes sir 😎
thanks love your videos ;;;
De nada 🙂
We ❤❤❤❤ Fremont Street.
What hotel do you stay at

I'm staying on Fremont next week. What's it like during VGK playoff games ? Staying @ The D. Not expecting to get much sleep.
We enjoy staying at Freemont. It's not for everyone...but we enjoy it. I think of it almost as a separate destination than the strip. Just do some research and know what to expect.
Old Vegas looks really cool. Old Strip is much cooler than new strip.
Use the valet and never give it a second thought.
While I no longer visit LV I used to always stay at the Nugget. Nice, inexpensive rooms, great restaurants and free parking.
Was the parking safe? Last time I stayed close to Fremont our car was broken into a pay lot!
Mr J , when able plz do a review or footage of Main st just South of Charleston Blvd . That area has a facelift. I had a BLAST shopping, then attended the Comedy Club, then dinner at two locations and live music etc. Spent 6hrs there 😮
