    The rims and all other chrome parts are still dirty or rusty in some spots. We use an Eastern German product called Elsterglanz to polish the parts. We are simply using a piece of cloth and wipe the parts. There is definitely a difference to before. Every little chrome part has to be cleaned and polished. The holes of lugs can be cleaned with Q-tips. Some rims are rusty, others dirty. The result is quite good.
    The old tom mounts will not be used, instead we go for Gibraltar rosettes. They are actually made for floor tom legs. But it is also possible to use these rosettes for our tom pads. They come with a memory clamp and a rubber pad. Both rossetes and clamps fit to a normal Roland rack mount and even to thinner L-mounts.
    We mount them to the shells. A cross recess screwdriver is needed for the screws included. The rosettes make a solid impression.
    Each lug needs its nut and the little plastic stopper back applied, before getting screwed to the shell.
    The lugs will be mounted with the lower screws only for now. The upper holes are needed for the trigger plates later. The tom shells are ready for the trigger systems.
    The plates get mounted from above. The side with the jack plug is pointing towards the rosette. Different M4 screws including washers are required to apply the trigger plate, as the original screws would be too short. Most screw drivers are too long, so they cannot be used in a small shell. We use a nut instead. The screws will not be tightened yet. The 10’ shell is really tight. The system needs to get pushed.
    The next step is attaching the trigger cone. The cones are from R-drums. They have an adhesive surface and get applied to the head trigger. They should be exactly placed. It is not possible to remove them later on.
    The top of the trigger cone has to be 1,5 mm higher than the bearing edge. We simply used a ruler with a piece of sticky tape applied. The tape is the indicator and 1,5 mm higher than the border of the ruler. The plate can be moved up or down through slotted holes of the metal angles. A graduate metal ruler is a perfect tool to check if every angle is applied at the exact same height. The trigger plate wouldn’t be even otherwise.
    The screws can be tightened now. A ratchet is recommended. We have to be careful, as the screws are quickly overturned. This happens quickly with such a lever and kills the lugs.
    The cone height should be checked again after tightening the screws. The pads are almost ready for the mesh head. Only the protection foil is getting removed. The label shouldn’t miss either.
    The mesh heads are from the drum-tec. We choose double layer mesh heads for all pads. These heads look like Roland mesh heads, but they are different. The texture is a bit stronger and they are not as bouncy when playing. Another advantage is that drum-tec mesh heads are available in every size. We apply the rim and tighten the screws with a tuning wrench.
    The final step is applying the rim silencers. R-drums is selling them as single rings or by the meter. In this case we ordered 5 meter of material. Enough for a full 5 piece drum kit with big shell diameters or in our case for a 6 piece with small shells. These rim silencers are made for normal rims and fit perfect.
    It is not as easy to cut them. They should not be too short or too long. The cut should be as straight as possible. It is best to use kind of a base to cut on.

    This is a really entertaining series!
    I would like if the music was a little quieter though.

    I wish you sold these as conversion kits. It'd be the best setup!

      Its nice but a little overkill. You can get a set of Convertible Percussions triggers that are way easier to install and work as well for less than $200.

    @Jakob: I know, sorry for that. But it takes so much effort and time to edit the videos, even though they are only 5 min long.

    Can I ask how you came up with the 1.5mm height the trigger cone has to sit above the bearing edge?

    Why are you using two piezos on the Tom’s as well?
    Is is so you can play rim shots and have the piezo attached without the foam cone be the trigger for that?

    I have a drum tec real feel on my snare and toms (3 ply) but they toms feel too much like snares, would you recommend getting 2 ply heads fort the toms? and leave the snare at 3 ply?

    did you ever end up or consider putting mesh heads on the bottoms of the shells to make them even more silent?

    Interesting video ! I cleaned and polished the chromework of my Rhythm Traveller last week. And there is a much much quicker and easier way to do that (if there is not too much rust). Just hold it under a really hot shower. Then dip the rough side of a washing sponge in some Baking Soda and 'polish'' the wet chrome part. Then rinse it off again under the shower and let it dry. My chromework looks like brand new ! Try it out. You will be amazed...

      +Werner Fraanje Thanks for your tip. Is this also working for rusty spots?

    • @wefraanje
      @wefraanje 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vdrum Tips A little rust will work yes. Like the rust you show on the rim. It was an experiment because I heard that baking soda can be used as a silver polish. And this was a great succes ! So easy and so quick !

    Excluding the cost of the drum shells. How much does a trigger sensor for 1 pad the mesh head for 1 pad, and the rubber shell tubing for 1 pad cost?

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      rollinfever15 Considering the the shipping costs, around 100-120Euro for 12 inch. The trigger plate itself maybe 60Euro (including shipping for the parts). The price per piece is changing if you build more than 1 pad.

      Vdrum Tips Woah! 120 Euro?... I think is too expensive, maybe using not a plate but a simple crossbar would be less expensive. BTW is a perfect clean work you done there...
      What is that black box supporting the piezo?, Is a DIY suspension system for the piezo or is something I can buy somewhere? Thank you very much for the tutorial. I learned a lot!

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bar would be cheaper and easier to make. The black thing is called decoupler. The head trigger needs to be isolated from the system and the shell. This can be done with such a foam piece or several rubber washers.

    Does the trigger cone go higher than the shell of the drum? Does it touch the drum head at all?

    • @Vdrumtips1

      Yes, it should be 1.5mm higher.

      Manx Keys This is the pearl rhythm traveler.

    • @ManxKeys

      what i mean is covert to edrum but use the same screws and no need to wrap a new skin

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes, that is possible. I only wrapped the shells because I bought it second hand and they looked really bad. You can just buy a new one or a kit in better condition.
      The screws are to short if you want to apply a trigger. But screws are cheap and easy to find. I payed 2 Euro for 100 of them.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Abhit Chavan Sorry but that is not possible. The components are really hard to get and it would be more expensive but worse in quality than a Roland cymbal. There is no point for DIY. If there would be a way, I would have done it already.
