Rooftop storm is so good in this deck that it's shocking that it wasn't just included in the precon to start. A card to look into is Warren Soultrader and combine it with things like Gravecrawler. Thanks for the opportunity.
Zombie is one of my first typal decks that i built 100% on my own with Varina. This precon is just strong from the get go and I can't wait to bust it open
Missed these precon upgrade videos! I feel like you covered all the zombie-essentials here without going crazy on budget, but I also like Endless Ranks of the Dead to have some good passive growth of my zombie horde
Really loved the adds, the deck is great out of the box however I agree, a lot of non zombies to switch out so I think adding more zombies and synergy in was all it needed. Personally if I win it, I'll probably give it to one of my friends who plays zombies. One is new and just build a dimir zombie deck and another friend is a long time zombies player. So it'll make a great gift!
The best thing about the commanders in this precon is the face commander is simple and easy to understand and use, while the backup commander has a very high ceiling and they both work decently with the precon as opposed to needing a completely different build for viable play.
Temmet is my type of commander as it encourages everything I want to do - go wide, attack, and draw cards! If I do build my own version, I'm going harder on the instant-speed card draw to buff my zombie horde after blocks. My favorite options for this deck are Keep Watch (since I want to attack anyway), Sudden Insight (since zombies want full graveyards), Ancient Excavation (can draw a bunch of cards and fill my graveyard at the same time), and Rowdy Research (will often cost 1 mana for 3 cards). I would also consider Body Count, but only if I also add more ways to sacrifice my guys. Thanks for the deck tech!
New viewer here, but definitely going to be a repeat one. I think your upgrades were right on the money, this deck is so interesting and the backup commander is going to probably become a really popular card.

Hello from a first time viewer. Wilhelt was my first commander deck and got me really into zombies, I’ll probably ending up tossing him in this deck as well. Turn all of those zombies into decayed ones after they die.
I'm a troll but I appreciate your help in identifying MTG products that are good and useful in building a new deck +1 Internet point for singing the Cranberries Zombie appropriately
sweet deck tech... with the addition of white, and you have a bunch of token makers... Anointed Procession and reconnaissance... Make more Zombie tokens and great evasion for the pieces that you want to keep on the board
My two recommendations that I’d try to squeeze in there would be Wand of Orcus (evasion and go wide) and Undead Alchemist which lets you mill out your opponent, exile any of their creatures that get milled AND make more zombies.
Honestly this deck has a unique look to it, and has had me excited in a way a precon hasnt for a log time. I personally went with hashaton and leaned hard into self mill and discarding/zombie beatdown. Playtesting it has been bananas. IT is a bit batllecruiser-y, but thats esper for you lol, hard to ramp. But super fun! Especially when you have a psychic frog out!! Hope to win this one!
The backup commander Hashaton, Scarab's Fist would love some Spellshapers. These discard outlets are engines that you feed into an intentional discard strategy by letting you be choosey and respond with instand speed discard: Skirk Ridge Exhumer- A zombie that you discard dead draws to to make Zombies. Bog Witch- Discard pay one black to get 3 black mana. Devout Witness- 2 mana and discard to destroy an enchantment or artifact. Dreamscape Artist- Basically a ramping Necromancer. Notorious Assassin- Repeatable removal engine. Overtaker- Pitch chaff into the yard to steal enemies bombs. Look into Spellshapers if you want to try a brew for Hashaton!

Great add ins. I’m definitely building this deck for Hashaton. Throwing in amulet of vigor so my tapped lands and zombie tokens come in untapped. Also gotta throw in a tortured existence for some easy discard shenanigans
Seems like the potential for some really cool interactions, as someone just getting into magic it's nice to see that even now there's fresh relevant takes. I like the fact you consciously don't remove the new parts and just upgrade reprints, feels like it keeps true to the spirit of the deck which is great having seen some other guides that basically upgrade away from the "essence" of the deck. Thank you for explaining the "whys" and not just a "it's really powerful cos zombos" it's nice to understand the process behind thinking up the upgrades so yeah just from a new starter point of view this was really well done :)
I like deep analysis but i feel you had a good thing going with the instant speed draw to make it a little like a combat trick maybe village rite can work since we are going make so much zombie tokens sacraficing 1 to give the rest an extra +2/+2 during combat can be cool for just 1 mana
Id try to find a way to fit nanogene conversion into the deck as a finisher, if you untap with temmet and 5 other creatures, cast it the whole board becomes temmets, attack draw 6, discard 6, all your creatures get +36/+36
Deck looks sick, but I feel like rot hulk could've been swapped for mikaeus instead. It brings back every non-human zombie with undying, which feels way stronger than just reanimating a few at a time. Furthermore, god pharaoh’s gift is cool, but phyrexian altar would straight up enable infinite zombie loops with gravecrawler, which sounds way nastier. Nice vid once again!
I had similar upgrades in mind, but the Acereak idea is great. I would drop 1 of the draws for Tortured Existence to further my my graveyard more of a bench for my team

I only just got to know this plane through Aetherdrift's story: Very cool how the death outnumber the living, and the mummy version of zombies *is* more fun actually. For the deck I'd add new cards like Zahur Glory's Past, Dune Drifter, and Hour of Victory. Because why not show off how the Amonkheti just won the big race? Oh, and for lands: Avishkar Raceway (discarding!), and the new version of Scoured Barrens for its flavor text
New subscriber here. Great video and spot on with most of the upgrades, especially the lands. I would probably make even more changes to the lands with a few more of the cards I own. I am concerned with the amount of interaction and I would like to find a couple more cuts for a cyclonic rift, toxic deluge, and/or farewell. I also have a lot of cards from OG Amonkhet and this deck/set makes me want to break them out and brew up some new decks.

I really need a 3rd zombie deck. No for real. They are so diverse and you can take a lot of different angles in building the deck. I think the coolest part of the this commander that nobody mention is that handsome is your best friend You can just stuff the deck with card draw and zombie and nothing else and you discard because of hand size. Super strong IMHO.
This is the deck I'm more excitedabout. Adding Roaming Throne seems like the easy add to double up on triggers. But also adding something like Ghoulish Procession or open the Graves that leave a 2/2 body when a creature dies and give to that endless zombie hoard feel.

Renewed Solidarity is going to get expensive for sure especially with Hashaton making tokens of nontoken creatures that get discarded. The new cards from this set are so good for esper zombie lists!

Creature deck I hear? Ive always been playing creature or go wide decks and this new precon coming in slot in perfectly with my playstyle. I think adding Likeness Looter would be great that works for both face and second commander in this deck, it can help draws and discard cards. Cant wait to see how naughty this deck can be on the battlefield
I would consider running reconnaissance. It was recently reprinted in the assassins creed set, bringing the price down to a couple bucks. It is an all-star in Varina decks and between her and Temmet, you want to be attacking to get your card draw, so this lets you attack without fear of losing creatures to unfavorable blocks. Also, you are able to activate it after damage has been dealt to untap the creature since it is still considered attacking while in the combat phase, getting a pseudo vigilance for 1 white mana. I understand cutting the Eternal Skylord since it only gives the tokens flying, but I would take a look at Hordewing Skaab since it gives all of your zombies flying for the same CMC with a bit more upside. It's helpful to have some extra evasion to help break a stalemate or let you chump block the dragon deck with some potential deathtouch...
I’m looking forward to a discard deck built around the alt-commander. Regardless, Roaming Throne, Raise the Palisades, Wonder, and Filth are instant upgrades for this deck for me.
I think it's interesting that they're only doing two precons for this set. I know that there is a lot of negativity about this set but I'm willing to give it a shot.
I got a couple of upgrade ideas that I will definitely use when I am able to pick up the deck. The cuts and adds were all good. That being said, I will find room for "Lilliana's Mastery." It buffs, makes tokens and puts a Lilliana (at least her likeness) on the board in the midst of her horde. Thanks guys.
Great rundown, i didn't play during Amonkhet but recently bought the two Planeswalker decks from Amonkhet for Gideon and Liliana, and i love what they did with wither (-1/-1 Counters) in that deck. Can't wait to get this commander deck, even if they already stated that it won't include Aetherdrift cards. Probably because Aetherdrift as a set might not be commander centric?
I love zombies and have a wilhelt deck. I'm looking forward to what white will add to zombies. Also I look forward to adding the draw/discard mechanic to freshen up the gameplay.
I love this new deck list it is exactly what I was hoping they’d do for WUB zombies. I used to have a gisa and geralf deck that was deceptively powerful and I’m hopeful to get to play a similar deck.

Ive been building all the spooky decks with my gf and this one is perfect out of the box. we love zombies! or in this case Zooooom-bies because.. yanno racecar set lol.
Great video, really enjoyed it and thought there were some smart includes. A card I would consider adding is Vanquisher's Banner as it is a great card draw option in tribal decks.
Kindred Discovery gets you card draw on ETB instead of Cast (meaning it triggers on tokens) and also will help give you the card draw on attack to proc. Temmet’s pump.
I’ll be going full tokens with my build. Wilhelt, Roaming Throne, Anointed Procession & Army of the Damned. With the right set up, Army of the Damned can do some major damage in the deck
The theme of this deck is soo cool, you don't see a lot off egypthian gods in magic.(Eternal) Might switch a few cards and add counter spells but it looks great.
Haven't been excited for a precon like this one since 2017 lol been struggling trying to think of something to build in esper or dimir that was tribal and not fairies. Big fan of the original Ahmonket so definitely a sign.
Varina can get through the deck quicker than the other 2, allowing you to have all 3 more often/ consistently. Varina also gives life gain from the command zone, which can be a bit of a premium for zombie decks in my experience. I'm personally building this with her at the helm.
@OliverRosenbaum-qv6sf sorry IN* the command zone, not from. I was just saying that you have acess to it now matter what you draw (assuming you at least have the mana to cast Varina).

Archfiend of Ifnir should definitely stay in the deck that effect whenever you discard a card is amazing! With Temmet getting you at least 1 discard during combat a -1/-1 counter on every opponent’s creature is back breaking against most creature based decks
I really love the egyptian theme this deck gets, it reminds me of a like 2 year period when i was a child and was obsessed with Egyptian mythology

Amonkhet was one of my favorite sets when I first started playing, so seeing it again brings back a lot of fun memories.

Pulled a necroduality from an Innistrad Remastered booster just yesterday, and I’m definitely gonna throw it in this precon as a nice upgrade.

I’m looking forward to a discard deck built around the alt-commander. Regardless, Roaming Throne, Raise the Palisades, Wonder, and Filth are instant upgrades for this deck for me.
I think it's interesting that they're only doing two precons for this set. I know that there is a lot of negativity about this set but I'm willing to give it a shot.

I got a couple of upgrade ideas that I will definitely use when I am able to pick up the deck. The cuts and adds were all good. That being said, I will find room for "Lilliana's Mastery." It buffs, makes tokens and puts a Lilliana (at least her likeness) on the board in the midst of her horde. Thanks guys.
Great rundown, i didn't play during Amonkhet but recently bought the two Planeswalker decks from Amonkhet for Gideon and Liliana, and i love what they did with wither (-1/-1 Counters) in that deck. Can't wait to get this commander deck, even if they already stated that it won't include Aetherdrift cards. Probably because Aetherdrift as a set might not be commander centric?
I love zombies and have a wilhelt deck. I'm looking forward to what white will add to zombies. Also I look forward to adding the draw/discard mechanic to freshen up the gameplay.

I love this new deck list it is exactly what I was hoping they’d do for WUB zombies. I used to have a gisa and geralf deck that was deceptively powerful and I’m hopeful to get to play a similar deck.

Pumped for this!! I haven’t played many precons so I think this would be super fun, I would throw in Raffine and maybe make a little odd-mana theme with the Cryptic Sovereign!!

Great video, really enjoyed it and thought there were some smart includes. A card I would consider adding is Vanquisher's Banner as it is a great card draw option in tribal decks.
Kindred Discovery gets you card draw on ETB instead of Cast (meaning it triggers on tokens) and also will help give you the card draw on attack to proc. Temmet’s pump.
Great job on the deck tech ! Even though it's not a zombie it would be fun to add Wonder to the deck, especially with the easy discard.

I’ll be going full tokens with my build. Wilhelt, Roaming Throne, Anointed Procession & Army of the Damned. With the right set up, Army of the Damned can do some major damage in the deck
I recently discovered that esper is one of my favourite color combos so this deck would be interesting to try out and build around :)
The theme of this deck is soo cool, you don't see a lot off egypthian gods in magic.(Eternal) Might switch a few cards and add counter spells but it looks great.
Also fun fact God-Eternal Oketra is ilustrated by Grzegorz Rutkowski who is an artist from Poland, like me.
Haven't been excited for a precon like this one since 2017 lol been struggling trying to think of something to build in esper or dimir that was tribal and not fairies. Big fan of the original Ahmonket so definitely a sign.

having a varina deck for so long just makes these cool new commanders that much more difficult to choose between
Varina can get through the deck quicker than the other 2, allowing you to have all 3 more often/ consistently. Varina also gives life gain from the command zone, which can be a bit of a premium for zombie decks in my experience. I'm personally building this with her at the helm.

@OliverRosenbaum-qv6sf sorry IN* the command zone, not from. I was just saying that you have acess to it now matter what you draw (assuming you at least have the mana to cast Varina).
I'm so excited for this deck, I don't have a zombie deck yet so this new precon is just what I asked for. Especially in Esper since I lack a deck in those colors!

Archfiend of Ifnir should definitely stay in the deck that effect whenever you discard a card is amazing! With Temmet getting you at least 1 discard during combat a -1/-1 counter on every opponent’s creature is back breaking against most creature based decks

I think I prefer the Eternal Might precon out of both the Aetherdrift decks, the secondary commander is super interesting!
