Thanks for making this, I'm usually running BNSF grain runs. I alway keep those gundersons for help though. Note: I recommend using the RailDriver cab controller if you play Run8, gives you an easier feel.
I thought about a rail driver but 90% of my play in Run8 is shunting and switching -usually swapping locomotives and trains several times during a play session. A RailDriver would actually be really annoying in that context.
Its a good thing that you made this video for those that are struggling with the controls of Run8. But the best way i learned is by lots and lots of experience.Long as you practice and practice you will eventually get the controls downpat. Lucky for you guys this good video is here to tell you what they are, i had to learn myself and it Sucked.
Indeed. For the first little while I printed out the 5 pages of keybinds. Luckily I already knew the concepts from years of MSTS, but Run8 was still a heck of a learning curve.
Por favor. Para cuando los siguientes tutoriales ? Se poco de ingles pero comprendo bastante tus tutoriales. Me inicié en éste maravilloso simulador y me encanta.Podrías por favor continuar con mas tutoriales. Gracias
Works fine if you do the entire consist including the locomotives, otherwise you'll blow the brake pressure and kick it into emergency. Unless you also use the F7 cheat to recharge the airbrakes.
You might have to calibrate it, also you parking break is remaining on you might need to press F5 to release it or press the parking break button on your rail driver
You should let that airflow get much closer to zero before releasing the brakes. you probably will be able to notch up quicker. Well, that at least how we do it on the real thing.
I don't think it mattered too much on a train this short with a trailing unit :P. On longer trains or heavier trains I wait for the brakes to completely charge before I go anywhere.
@@kalnaren Yes, laptop. This is an old V1 copy i figured out, changed the + key to another button but same problem., so maybe there's another key layout on this version. Solved the problem by just purchasing the V3. Now it works like a charm.
how does the learning curve in run 8 compare to ED learning curve? It took many days for me to understand how to rebind keys to a hotas joystick in ED. good video by the way for noobs like me.
There's a lot of keybinds (about 4 pages worth if you print them out), but the ones I use in this video (about a dozen or so) are the ones you're going to use 90% of the time. The learning curve in Run8 is far more mechanical. IE, learning how to actually operate a train. It's not hard knowing how to activate the brakes with the keyboard, it's a lot harder learning when and how to operate the brakes. I'd say overall the game is harder to learn than ED, but OTOH I've been playing space sims since the early 90's and never found ED particularly difficult. As train sims go Run8 is far more accurate than most, so the learning comes from learning how to actually drive a train properly.
The transaction ID circle should be green. When you say you can't select a train, do you mean you literally get zero feedback on the screen or anything when you click on one?
Too many controls and poor graphics compared to Train Sim World 2020 & 2, I barely can get any consist moving in this game sitting for hours. Once upon a time I actually did succeed moving a train in this game and then everything became spontaneously uncoupled for NO REASON I'M BEGINING TO HATE RUN 8😡
Well, it's more of a study simulator than an arcade game. TSW has terrible physics by comparison and practically no railroad operations. It looks pretty but that's about the only thing it does well. Couplers don't break or uncouple for "no reason". If you're constantly snapping couplers when trying to move you've either got your DPUs set up wrong (so you've got locomotives pulling in opposite directions), or you're not fully releasing all your brakes. Remember that a train from rest in Run8 has 3 brakes you need to release -the handbrakes for the entire consist, the independent brakes on the locomotives, and the automatic (air) brakes on the train. If you haven't set your anglecocks correctly you may not be releasing the air over the entire train. Use the SHIFT-B overlay to confirm this (as I go over at 9:45 in the video). If you follow ALL the instructions in this video in the order I've laid them out in, you'll get a train moving without issue. There are no shortcuts in Run8.

Yep own a RailDriver and every modern train sim and this one (run 8) is a pain to run

It's very prototypical to test your brake pressure before you start, you unintentionally followed standard procedure out of necessity.
Haha awsome. Thanks for the info.
This is really helpful! Thanks!
how come after like five minuets when im doing free roam in the air, it automaticly puts me on the ground and i can go back in the air.

It's on my list of things to do!
I have a problem, after a few minutes of setting up the consists my shortcuts stop working, all of them except for the train editor and time sheet.
Make sure you enter your product key under the 'License' tab in the window that pops up when you hit 'F1'.
If you make a new consist press f7 and it will automatically set the anglecocks.
Works fine if you do the entire consist including the locomotives, otherwise you'll blow the brake pressure and kick it into emergency. Unless you also use the F7 cheat to recharge the airbrakes.
Is it possible to interact with the levers (brake handles, throttle, &tc) using the mouse instead of shortcut keys?
Yes, but I'd highly suggest using the shortcut keys instead. It's significantly easier. Using the mouse on the levers is.. clunky.
Okay last night when I was pressing f11 it put me into the train now it won’t when I press it
Ctrl-F11 puts you into the cab of a train you control. F11 makes you grab the grab irons of whatever rail unit you're looking at.
kalnaren oh thanks!
Have you ever encounter problems with keyboard short cuts not working? I'm having that issue now. I exited the cab and now I can't get back in.
Make sure you've added your license key in the F1 menu.
Hi I JUST GOT V2 AND MY RAILDRIVER iS NOT WORKING . The parking brake stays on nothing works.
I don't have a rail driver, so I can't provide any help. You'll have to contact Run8 Studios.
You might have to calibrate it, also you parking break is remaining on you might need to press F5 to release it or press the parking break button on your rail driver

what do you do about constant broken couplers?
Add your license key to the license tab in the F1 menu.
After awhile my ctrl+f11 key stops working and I can't re enter the train. I also am not able to move quickly while holding the shift key.
Make sure you enter your purchase key under the 'License' tab in the F1 menu.
I bought the Mixed Freight pack 1 addon for the game, how do i actually put the addon on the game?
btw this video is so helpful 😇
It's an exec file, just double-click it and point it at your Run8 directory.
When I press + , only the screen brightness adjust. What could be wrong?
Are you playing on a laptop?

@@kalnaren good to know thank you
my ctrl+F11 isnt working.. please help
Did you register your license in the program?
@@kalnaren i got it working after some help from a run8 fb group.
Where can I buy the game? Pls reply I want this game so bad
From the website: www.run8studios.com/index.shtml
Thanks ii did where can i find a button layout
Chris Mims in the same place, under keybinds, or in the documentation folder where you installed Run8.
Thank you so much!
Ok thanks
I cant select a train, and ive put in the transaction ID
The transaction ID circle should be green. When you say you can't select a train, do you mean you literally get zero feedback on the screen or anything when you click on one?
kalnaren when I click it it sends me to the conductors seat
The only way that you should end up on the interiour when clicking is if you're holding down F11 when clicking on a locomotive.
@@kalnaren sorry for late response, I went to a party. anyway I don't know why it sends me to the conductors set.
Maybe something got corrupted? Might have to reinstall.
I cant turn on any switch in the cab
Make sure you've entered your license key in the 'F1' menu. This game does odd things if you haven't donw that.
How do you fly in the air on run 8
Shift-F12
tried it , it worked thank :)
