That is absolutely beautiful and you just gave me a great idea, I am renovating an RV and they have the repulsive bright red orangie oak. I appreciate the info !! I love the color you used, I would actually love to mix a little black with the walnut like you said. 😊
I inherited some old 1800’s furniture with such a dark patina I love and I’m wondering what I can put on it to protect it and maybe shine it up as it looks very dry?
Hi Amy, this is my first time watching you I'm from Illinois and wanted to see how you stain cabinets. I'm trying to decide if I want to paint or stain mine this video was very helpful thank you.
That looks very nice, but I am looking for going lighter than the before. Do I just sand and put a glass on it I don’t want the dark. Everything else in my house is dark.
I'm having trouble understanding how it adheres with no sanding....even a little. I need to update my oak cabinets and this looks like a possiblity for me....but I'm very hesitant.
The answer is don’t do it. They all say no sanding necessary but it’s just not true. You will get uneven splotchy staining and it will not hold up to deep cleaning over time. If you want to stain your cabinets the right way you need to scrub them with a TPS cleaner, rinse well with water THEN sand, stain and seal. I would even add a conditioner step before the stain to ensure uniform staining. If you really don’t want to sand then at least clean with the TPS, rinse with water and brush on a liquid sander and then test your stain somewhere to see what you get. Long story short you get what out what you put in.
Hi I have just started watching your videos. Love your products. I have the 90s orange colored solid maple cabinets. What do you do when you start with doors that are worn with an uneven worn finish and or stain on areas of the door?
If I used the gel stain on unfinished wood, could I then paint with milk paint without putting a coat of one step on to let the natural wood color show through the milk paint in select areas?
I know I can darker I used a darker stain on the orange oak in my last house, but will a water based gel stain let you go lighter? toning down the orange?
Heyyyy you both look amazing together and are amazing ppl. Gr8 work. ❤️ I also came across your Venetian plaster for doing wall. Just love the finish. Can you pleeease share cleaning stain tips if Venetian plaster is done in kitchen backsplash ?? I really want to do it in my kitchen/ house but just hesitating just bcoz of cleaning the Staines Xx
It’s TinaG again... do any of these gels make the cabinets “lighter” or a whitewash look... I do not want to go darker because I only have one double window in the kitchen. I’m considering using Beyond Paint in the “off white”.. your input is appreciated.
Because the old look has lacquer on it, the stain will peel off in time. So, I would get rid of the lacquer anyway, a little more work, but the finished product last longer. What do you think?
I have gel stained my cabinets and applied matte sealer, but now I realized the pieces do not all match, and some need to either have another layer of stain or sanded down and start over. I prefer the first. Does anyone know if the gel stain would work well over the matte sealer? My assumption is yes, but I would like a second opinion.
Thank you. It was nice tutorial. I may ask you some questions when I start doing it at my house.

A side by side before and after would be helpful
This is my first time watching you two. Wonderful info! Will the stain cover evenly if some wood has polyurethane and some areas it has rubbed off.

I have maple cabinets that are stained a honey orangey color. What color stain do you recommend to tone down the orange color? Thank You
Pick a stain with blue or green undertones to neutralize the orange
What is up with the USPS? My mail and packages seem to be delivered here there and anywhere but to me. UPS and FedEx are able to deliver.
I have this color and think the walnut is beautiful. Do you have to also stain the facia or does it blend enough?

Make sure you use the Clean Slate and the gel stain from their website. Gel stain does adhere without having to go to the bare wood.

What happens when you go to wash the cabinet afterwards does the gel stain come off

What if some of ypu cabinets have some raw wood sowing where wear is?..

Yes, it can be used to achieve lighter colors and tone down the orange hue of oak wood.

How durable would this be on kitchen cabinets?
I truly think it is better to deglaze before the staining.

What are the other colors of gel stain you mentioned in this video?thank you Tina G.

Is there a way to do the frame of the cabinets ? You say to lay it flat to apply the gel stain.
You may use the Gel Stain without laying flat. It is designed to cling to vertical surfaces. :)
Hi , how y’all doing 🙏I have a question can I use gel stain in espresso on my yellow looking cabinets???

I have the same question!
How can I lighten my golden oak cabinets. I don't like dark color I prefer the lighter colors. Any ideas.
You could use our Cerusing Wax on your cabinets to lighten them up!

Your son has a deep bark. 🙃
Still looks bad. You both sound like an infomercial. 👎🏻
Please share your youtube channel where you teach a technique to do this then. 😜
What do you mean that it still looks bad? Curious...
