The strings you found in the legacy section are absolutely gorgeous. Can bring tears to the eyes. Don't overthink it. When you have them in the mix they will get to anyone..
Greetings from the USA. Found your channel while doing researching the Genos2. Placed an order and can't wait. But to the point your video's are very informing easy to follow and a joy to watch and hear. Like how you show and tell what changes can be made to help out the sound. Thank you for your efforts and time with you channel.
Totally agree with your views. I switched from my good old Tyros 2 to the Genos 4 years ago, and was so shocked with the saxes, strings and flutes. Legacy did the trick indeed, and it also took me a while to discover.
That's very interesting. I always thought there was something wrong with me, but I just don't like the Strings on GENOS too harsh except for what you just showed in Legacy. So I shall use them from now on thank you. I used to own a KAWAI Digital Piano with all the other Voices and the STRINGS on there were absolutely superb no need to tweet them, like having "Mantovani" in the room when playing them. Lesson to be learned: Don't just upgrade because you've seen it on the WEB ( I used to have a Tyros5 ) but go in the shop and test it. LOL.
The Allegro Strings are nice in the Legacy section as well. I use them all the time either using 2 or 3 at a time changing the octaves & also mixing with the Strings sound. It's crazy that Yamaha are on their 6th keyboard model and I prefer the string sounds that were on the Tyros 1 🤔
Bonsoir Leigh Wilbraham je vous Adore merci pour votre humour et vos conseils avisés qui m'ont permis de reconsidérer la partie "legacy" comme quoi ! Merci à vous Ami Musicien ...! 😀
I'm finding it totally impossible to purchase epic strings 2...is it because I'm in USA or is it because only method of payment is Pay Pal which is a disaster have tried several times
Firstly, thanks Leigh for your informative vids, even i have learnt something. I learned to play on a b series electone and have had everything they have made since. The most disappointing one is the Genos. Bad build ,ie numbers fading, loose sync/start button. Some of the samples seem to have gone backwards. Its not that the strings are bad, they are just very specific. The saxophones and the flutes are awful. I think this arranger was aimed at a younger player. But it does have some amazing sounds, you just have to do a bit of work to get them. Personally, i think Yamaha got a bit lazy, and i hate saying that as i have had so many amazing keyboards. My favourite, the psr 9000.
I believe the first patch was the Live! Strings from previous models. The second being the standard Strings patch from the panel section of previous models.
I didn't see this until after I had just purchased Epic Strings 2 for the princely sum of £65, however I don't regret my purchase as the strings on that pack are truly spectacular, most especially the Andre and Hans Zimmer strings. 10 strings in total to choose from which will definitely be my go to strings. Still good to know about the Legacy option as well though. I agree that the Genos strings and certain instruments are disappointing considering the hefty price tag of the keyboard, that being said, after years of saving up for the Genos, I don't regret a penny.
I have been frustrated with the inability of finding nice mellow strings. Thankyou. I have a CVP809 but they are still there but slight different in location. A great help.😅
I did subscribe and thank you for the lesson. I have Tyros 4, 5-76 and Genos love all but yes I for one do use Legacy many times. Not a pro by any means but love to play and enjoy!
Kino is somewhat hollywood I think its a more harry gregson williams sound ala his work on metal gear solid... maybe some zimmer?? I've worked some really neat sounding string patches combining seattle with kino and blending them.. it all depends on taste really
I enjoyed your video…. I agree that these keyboards could use larger memmory, funny thing you then go into the legacy sounds who are a main reason for the lack of memory for new sounds. Later on you dive into my favorite toppic VST, but VST put into an arranger? Not really going to happen as most of the users stay far and away from such a thing…. But, if Yamaha really wants to make us happy with the Genos 2, they add the part that turns the genos in to an Audio interface for your PC(or even ipad these days) .. and then give a VST host that can be directly controlled from Genos.. the VST would be running on the PC and players would experience them as part of the genos…. With the right programmers, it could be almost lagfree.. Its a good thing we still have dreams, don’t we?
Can't the Genos be used as a MIDI controller plugged into a DAW with the right channels assigned and then fed through a mixer back to speakers? Not possible? Lag?
Love my Genos but the strings are not really suitable for classical music. Thanks so much for unlocking legacy string voices as I would not have looked there :)
Hello thanks for the videos really have helped me a lot. I was wondering do you know if you can change the default destination to USB when audio recording?
Hi Leigh, those legacy strings, I think we’re probably based on general midi because the numbering shown were 50 and 49 which were strings and slow strings in general midi. The T4 strings were better than T5 or Genos.
Totally agree that T4 sounds better in a lot of areas. Genos has more controls and some cool features - but many of the sounds are boring or with overbearing articulation. I also find the one touch sounds sets within the styles are repetitive within the genres.

Very interesting videos about Genos, just bought one and I'm colecting info here and there ! Thank youfor posting
My favorite legacy strings to use with piano is Live Strings. They're butter!!
Genos still the most complete and powerful best arranger station keyboard!!!!!!!

Very thorough explanation of Legacy. Strings in Genoa.

Thank you, Leigh. Btw, the 2 STRINGS have different numbers though. Love your playing style, thanks!

7:58 The first "Strings" at the top of the page is the Live!Strings voice carried over from older Yamaha keyboards.
And???

dobry muzikant 👍
Do you think this is better then genos 2strings
It is for a pad string voice yes.
How to play the XG/GM voices?
Go into legacy. Why would you want to play the poorer quality voices!!??
I think my genos sounds dull abit because I downloaded there updates
Has it reset your EQ
It’s a great keyboard but as much as it costs it’s crazy that we have to buy better voices and choir for it.
I tend to agree that for the money it should have better voices. There’s a lot that’s been improved but a lot that hasn’t.
I thought genos 2 alr came out
