Why doesn't anyone acknowledge the terrific orchestration and arrangement by the great Don Costa that strongly support the wonderful melody and lyrics of this great song. The soft accompaniment and then the soaring crescendo of the strings/ violins certainly contribute to the feeling and emotion of this wonderful song. Pay attention to the music in between Sinatra's terrific phrasing. Sinatra always credited not only the songwriter but also the arranger/orchestrator of his songs. Comments please.
It's such a shame how Costa's work on "The Future" portion of Trilogy was so poorly received. I read articles about how it hurt the guy bad, when really, I think the arrangements are quite beautiful.
This is one of my all time fave SINATRA songs. It's a lesser known song, written by Carol Bayer Sager ... This is without question one of Sinatra's most beautiful songs ... I love Dionne and this is a nice rendition, but if you like this, listen to Sinatra sing this on the RILOGY Album
I love this Chapter in Dionne's Bio .. While she was hosting Solid Gold she'd tell the white shirts ..That she could deliver Frank Sinatra to guest host on the show .. With that she received ..Under breath remakes or cold faces ... She got him with-in the month ..Then she gave notice that this would be her last season ..lol
As I said before ... Frank Sinatra could sing anything. The greatest singer ever in my opinion. As for Dionne, well I saw her live in Dublin in Ireland about 3 years ago. The only world female artists I had seen. What songs she sang that night. All of her classics.
Wish they'd done a studio recording of this. Much as I love the solo version on "Trilogy", doing the song as a duet makes it just that much more poignant.
