Hugh C. Weir (1884-1934) was a reporter and editor who wrote hundreds of articles, stories, and Hollywood's screenplays . In 1914 he published Miss Madelyn Mack, Detective. The author was inspired to create this character by a real detective of the time named Mary Holland, to whom he dedicated the book. Mary Holland, and her husband, ran a prestigious detective agency in the United States, and she was the first woman to be an expert in fingerprints.
The adventures of Madelyn Mack are recounted by reporter Nora Noraker, who accompanies the detective on her adventures.
