55:00 There’s an argument to be made that it was never about Kamila at all and Jowd just wanted an excuse to die. My man has a guilt complex bigger than Sissel’s hair.
I think it's important to remember that at the time of the mom's murder Jowd didn't know about the ghost powers. From his perspective his kid somehow made a murder machine and while he knows she didn't do it on purpose proving that would be difficult. Especially with the "impossible" moves. The evidence at the time would make the murder seem intentional.
You'd still have to convince a court that this nine year old decided to murder her mom through a Rube Goldberg machine. Which also contained presents and confetti. As opposed to the whole thing being a birthday present gone horribly wrong. It feels more like Jowd just has a martyr complex or something.
Arguably. Though depending on the burden of proof placed in the prosecution and what made cupid spin (my personal belief is that sissel spun cupid directly) all that needs to be proved would be that cupid physically shouldn't have been able to spin
Hardly. All that would be brought up in court was how this girl was bad at engineering, which most kids are. Oh and also she's unable to be tried as an adult, so there would literally be no case, much less a conviction.
Still weird to me that apparently during the autopsy the angle of the bullet wound wad never brought up and the apartment never investigated for the traceries that would be in the wall from it firing as well as pyrotechnical string. Like it really seems like him taking the blame should bring in a lot more questions than it solved
Jowd's logic kills me everytime. There could literally be a volcano eruption on the other side of the Earth and he would say that it's his fault and that he is a m*rderer. Flawless logic, really.
@@ClownHoundIITo be fair, "Bad Sissel" claims that he, Jowd, and Cabanela himself were the only ones who knew about that. Presumably, Jowd retrieved the gun after the guy's death, returned it to Cabanela and never spoke of it again to protect him (GAY LOVE GAY LOVE)

@Doom Ander That really is exhausting lol I like to just look at it as an opportunity to talk about something interesting. Like I've gone back and forth on "Bad" Sissel over the years for instance and after talking to people I feel like I understand the character better.

28:35 actually it won an award for "Greatest Game Nobody Played" in which only games that pushed less than 100k copies were considered the year it was released
They really laid into Jowd on this one. I don't know if I'd want to call his mentality stupid, I remember it feeling really refreshing to have a character so aware of what they could be responsible for in their career and actually go through with it. The stuff he does for Kamila is pretty extreme and definitely a Takumi-ism, but the situation they were in was always wackily tragic anyways, and msybe im just a sucker for parent-taking-the-fall-for-their-kid trope. Being so eager to die is the one thing I think doesn't aid his character well, especially in terms of just making Kamila's situation worse no matter how he trys to fluff it up, but the game at least points that out too.
You know a real gosh dang ghost came into my house today and did a whole ass Rube Goldberg of events to trick my sandwich out of my hands and into my dog's hungry mouth. Those hecking ghosts, I swear...
Saving Cabanela is much harder in the remake. With one screen, you don't get to know the bullet's shape, so you have to trial and error what shape the bullet could be. Also, this is the first time orientation of the swapped item mattered, as you cannot swap the bullet with the helmet unless it is on the hook.
I like how Cabanella and Sissel's outfits are inverted colors of each other. Sissel with the red suit and white tie, and Cabanella has the white suit with red scarf. I wonder if that's intentional
I think it's important to remember that this game is written based on experiences with the Japanese justice system. There could be the very real chance that the little girl could have actually been found guilty. Even if you take that away and the girl isn't found guilty, people will still likely shame her for it and still treat her badly for it.
This game is supposedly taking place in Western country, even in Japanese version. But still, Shu Takumi is Japanese man fixated on writing about Japanese law system.
@@Fralexion I honestly don't know. Could again be Shu Takumi writing on pov of Japanese man. But considering that character names are all western-sounding and mostly the same as in English version (only Ray has Japanese name, but that's because his name is language based pun), not to mention Cabanela using random English words in his dialogue like stereotypical American in Japanese media, it's pretty clear setting is supposed to be non-Japanese.

You might not realize it at the moment (doing a live read might not help with contemplation either) and I certainly didn't get it 100% at the time, but when you think about Jowd's mentality it really does make sense that he feels guilty over Sissel's death. Knowing what you're capable of is important for a cop so you know what you're responsible for, and Jowd was less than a second away from murdering Sissel, firstly. But more importantly, the reason Sissel was in this position to begin with was because Jowd and Cabenela (by their own admissions) were arrogant glory hounds that put him in that position, the man was innocent before he took a hostage. So even though Jowd didn't shoot Sissel, he was still responsible for his death. Lynne being made a hostage? That was on Jowd and Cabenela too.
