Thanks again guys for all the support and good vibes. I've read every single comment and they've all affected me positively and given me extra fuel to move forward...OK.....GAME ON!
I’m so glad you are back Nathan!! As you can see this community you have built genuinely cares about you. We are all looking forward to the next video.
I've just hit a low myself Nathan, I lost it at work on Monday and had to walk out before I either killed someone or broke down into tears in front of my work mates, neither was going to happen so I walked. 25 years I've been dealing with Anxiety and Depression, different meds, seeing different professionals and trying to deal with it myself. I found a really good specialist about 3 years ago, he changed all my meds and that got me on the right track and everything has been good until 4 weeks ago when I arrive home from a trip to the UK to visit my family in Sheffield for the first time in 48 years, I'd never meet them. Now that I've entered into the second half of my life I'm trying to put together a life style that I think will help keep my mental state balanced. You and me have chatted on here about car modification before, I'm the guy from Australia who builds Hot Rods. I'd love to chat with you more to share stories about dealing with what we have trouble with. Glad to see you feeling better, your video lifted my day a little. Cheers Cory
Wow...seeing family is a huge undertaking for the most balanced of people. Supporting yourself through lifestyle choices is definitely a large part of living with this condition. Keep your head up. One foot in front of the other however small those steps are.
Dear Nat . You are a hell of a good man ( keep up the good fight ) Never give up, never give up. never give up, .. Winston Churchill . Its great to see you again . You know what they say you cant keep a good man down !!!!! Pete M
Nice ride; my mom bought one of those brand new & my older brother totalled it 2 weeks later. From that limited experience I always liked those cars. Never saw one in that color either; kind of a unicorn.
Glad to see you're still here. I deal with the same thing, so I feel what you're saying. At 10:35, that timing belt looks sketchy! It's likely the heater core is also jacked up with the crap in the cooling system too, so see if you can flush it out. As far as the head, well, my money is on a failed head gasket.
Welcome back Nathan, it is good to see you wrenching on cars once more and fighting hard to beat depression. I can't wait to see how this journey takes place with not just the car but with you and your healing
Nathan, what I refer to in my life, "Ultra Low Bio-rhythms" is a phase of life and not a way of life. When the clouds form, remember it is a storm that will pass and you will come out the other side. Thanks for sharing your adventures in automobileia and your story.
Glad to see you back at it. It truely is one day at a time and as another has already posted, cherish the ups they will help to get you through the downs. Keep fighting. your adopted family is behind you and praying for you.
Nathan, my daughter suffers from depression but she is doing much better now. I know it is tough to fight through but you can make yourself better. Keep on keepin' on. Glad to see you back.
Nathan, Thanks so much for the video. You are the most important part of your videos. So, take care of yourself first. Some of us subscribe to Bad Obsession and can wait months for new content, but that is ok because we totally understand that creators and makers like your self, have other jobs and responsibilities. We get it that this 15 min video can take 15 hours or longer to produce. I am patient and I hope everyone else watching will be patient as well. Cheers and best to you and your family.
Hey Hope all is well, I actually just found your channel today because Im wanting to do a Crown Vic swap on a 68 F100, I'm so glad I gound your channel not only because the Crown Vic swaps but this video here, that exactly hiw I feel somedays as well so thank you it made me think and I needed that, also I had an 87 5speed Merkur.... Loved it still have a few parts in the barn so if you need anything let me know thank you again sir
ROLLING COAL PRODUCTIONS it’s funny how often the combo of XR ownership seems to pop up in the Frame Swap world! Glad the channel is of help. Yeah. Lemme know what XR bits you have. I’d be interested to see what ya got 👍
I’m so glad you’re back and healthy. That’s the most important part. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Things that are very personal and sometimes hard to talk about. I work in the mental health field and I see such a taboo when it comes to mental health. People don’t want to talk about it and sweep it under the rug. We need to talk about it. Be open and honest about mental health and remove the stigma. I commend you for not only getting help, but sharing it with people like us who you have no obligation to tell at all. Stay strong and never give up. 👊🏻
The rad seemed to flow pretty well with a garden hose...and yeah...the heater core for now is out of the equation. I'll probably spring for the MerkurDepot ally one when I want to plumb it back in.
Totally agree on the brand changes, i've found that i've been educating my Dr half the time on side effects (subtle and extreme) my depression was amplified by my spinal condition. i learned 2 key things- 1.Dont do shit ya dont have to unless you enjoy it. and B. Dont put up with shitty people ye dont have to (even if they're family) that last one was a revelation for me. Love ya bud. (and yes i learned that's ok too)
I had one of these a long time ago. I seen it sitting and inquired about it and ended up buying it for cheap. It was a long term project and i was really enjoying it. I had a garage fire, and even though it was not in the garage, it got major damage from the heat. Finding parts was very difficult and so I got rid of it. Still miss it. Fell in love with these cars when I was in high school. Was my first and last turbo car. But, I have a plan on having a turbo 2.3 powered 4x4 ranger by next summer. Mud drags baby. Good luck and looking forward to the continued saga.
Thank you for sharing your journey. Hang in there buddy. I have enjoyed your videos and look forward to many more in the future. Your doing a great job. Thank you for your sharing your time and talents.
Happy Days , glad you are doing better ! Love The Car , I drove and almost bought one in 1987, My wife did not like it . It was a cool car and will be a great project ! Take Car , looking forward to more , Ed
Glad to see you back and with another XR! Personal wellness comes first always and you don't owe us anything so work to you and we'll enjoy it when you can share.
I have a lot of the same feels as most the commenters do ....I’m happy to see you back and glad you made us a video . Great to see you happy and healthy 👍👍
Hello Nathan, I am a fan of Merkur XR4Ti(s). Thanks for the comprehensive look of what goes into keeping a turbo charged 2.3 from overheating. Appreciate the insights into how different medications can bring about the same outcome in varied ways. Thanks for sharing an intriguing piece of 1980's automotive history.
Nice to see an old XR4Ti in such great shape, most are driven into beyond the grave.... Although funny how it seems many older cars in excellent shape and with low mileage are usually in less than common(didn't want to use the word undesirable LOL) colors and feature an automatic when the manual version of the model is much more enjoyable to drive. I really dig European Fords(owed over a dozen Capris from the early 80s up until the mid 2000s) and the Merkur always gets my attention. Since you live the NoHo, there's plenty of pull-ur-part yards in the area, only thing is, Merkurs are rarer than hen's teeth :-( Best of luck on this project and with your journey :-)
Nice to see you back at it with a simple project, the xr4 with the v6 was always fun, a bit tail happy tho - depression is a harsh mistress, I have been in a dark place a few times over the years, it does take time and you need to find the meds that work for you, her in the uk GP’s can specify the manufacturer of the medication
Nathan, allow me to introduce myself. First time viewer and new subscriber. Man! You are excellent with your tools and guidance through this restoration. I will be watching as you get the Merkur humming and buzzing again. Your honest approach to wrenching and life is humanitarian.
Good to see you back and glad to see you are fighting! You have proved yourself very capable and have lots of people who you have helped and inspired that want to see you well. Prayers for you and your family! Ps- you inspired me to swap a 1952 F1 onto a 2006 explorer chassis! Can’t wait to start
Great to have you back Nathan...and not one airplane passed by during the video, haha. I am embarking on my own build soon, swapping a 63 Unibody over onto a 2001 Crown Vic P71 that was a fire dept chief's car, so it doesn't have all the idle hours and abusive treatment that most P71 cars have had. Your two F100/CV swap series (and River City doing his Unibody) were my inspiration to try to do a swap. Thanks for the high quality work and videos that are inspiring folks to build their next ride instead of buying it.
I learn something every time I watch you, Nathan. I'm not a very "commenty" person, but wanted you to know that there are many people who care about you. Thanks for continuing to share. Cheers!
How did you get sponsored by Auto zone? I've been doing two cars, one a wonderful Volvo 764T and the other, a plain Chrysler PT cruiser. I know everyone there and would be honored if they sponsored my TH-cam videos. Good journeys with your meds and I hope you feel better soon. Keep your progress coming. I love these cars too.
alex s it was a very long and hard process but I pinned them down to letting me pay full retail and giving me no perks in return for their full sponsorship...hang on wait a minute...that doesn’t sound like such a good deal right now 🤔
AWESOME glad to see your back and doing well my brother always loved the vids keep em coming you inspired mecand my 15 yr old son to do our on 64 f100 crown vic swap we followed your awesome vids had a blast with our swap thanks to you sir god bless thoughts and prayers to you on your journey
Something I was taught from a friend long ago. When your in that low and dark place. Look around at your surroundings. Speak out loud things you see around you at that very moment. Chair. Coco water. Lamp. Mirror. Cabinet. Glass of water. Table. Fire place. Clock. Etc. I find it draws me outta my head and thoughts into my current time and space. Into the present moment. Not sure if it will help but I hope it does. Cheers mate. Thanx for the honesty. Just keep on getting up. Keep on moving forward. One day at a time. People do care.
Wlecome back, just wanted to say to be careful using a filter designed for another car. I did that once and while it fitted physically, it lacked the non-return valve of the the oem spec filter so the pump had to self prime with every cold start with associated lube-less run time. Not good.
Keep fighting. Depression was a nightmare that took me two years to learn to manage. No meds now and sober for 4 1/2 years. Life is Beautiful. God Bless.
Glad to see that the shop is still open. You Sir have inspired me to remove myself from the sofa and head into the garage to make something. Happy days... Now on the car. Head down to Lowes for some more sponsorship. Get a gallon of Formula 88 (solid black colored plastic bottle). Its a degreaser that is like Purple Power on crack. Run a half of the bottle through the cooling system with the rest plain water. That has been tried and proven to work on cutting the build up of gunk in a cooling system (my own Ford Explorer). Be sure to run the heater so it will work on getting inside the heater core. The longer you run it, the better it will cut the grime. This also doubles as a leak finder cause it will start to foam up where the pressure leaks are. In your cars case, a radiator and heater core might be in your future. Just don't sell the car to the first film crew that you find... Happy Days!
Nice to see you back Nathan! Glad to see you got an xr to work on i know you love those cars... That 2.3 is a trooper but.... They like to crack a head when overheating (i hope not)and whenever i see a coolibg system like that i suspect a head gasket or other leak allowing combustion into coolant. ...so best wishes a headgasket wouldnt be too bad with the timing belt change....
What a mess that cooling system is. I would fill it with water and give it a good flush before adding coolant. There is a Xr4ti for sale locally that looks really good at a good price. I am trying to resist. I am glad you are doing well. Set backs are ok as long as you keep heading in the right direction. Thanks for sharing the video.
Nathan, I had been wanted to write you a letter of support for what you are going through with your depression. And to tell you that you are not alone. When your last video came out. But you know how things happen. I too have depression. And to come out and address it, you are a real hero. Thank you for that and for what you do with your channel. It is by chance that I even came across your channel, I had did a search for Crown Vic frame swaps and came across a channel called River City which talked about how you had help him go his swap. I decided to check you out, and got hooked. I'm doing something like your first swap. I'm taking a 1992 Mercury Marquis(a rich man's Crown Vic, ha ha) and pulling the drivetrain and bolting it to a ranger frame, and putting a 1946 Ford 86 pickup cab and fenders on top of it. Thanks for being there and keep up the good fight. Bart
Good to see you making clips again . I know what you going through have been there myself . Keep up the good work . On the blocked rust filled engine I have always used a cup of washing powder in coolant system for a week while using the car then flush system and keep doing it until it comes out clean . Again love your work , don't give up keep going I know sometimes it's hard but you can do it
We are in the same boat when it comes to the headspace, I got a few extra bonuses. Nathan you are doing great things with your therapy. Please please keep up with your great work. Steven aka Sergio Garcia
man thought we was gonna slap a 4.6 cv in that thing,..... glad to see ya back up and going. Miss those f100 vids,... acutally went back and watched over for some inspiration
Hi Nathan I am so pleased you are coming through the other side of it all now, in your last video I was also going through it my PTSD made me a recluse, The mental health treatments here in the UK are absolutely crap they should be locked up for pretending to be Drs! non existent help 6 months waiting to see someone who basically does not give a flying F**k , You are right about the medication I wont accept different makes, You Look healthy and happy and you are a good guy another project is just what we need right now, stay lucky mate!
Couldn't agree more ant 17 years I've been fighting this condition with virtually no help from the ract off NHS it's also manifested in to me being a recluse too thank God for TH-cam and nathan and folks like him who who put out this type of content because without it my brain would turn to mush
Thank you guys...yeah mental health help is definitely a difficult road to navigate. Stay strong and one foot win front of the other (I keep telling myself)
That poor thing has suffered from a severe lack of love and maintenance. I have a friend that has a large collection of Merkurs . I have had the pleasure of driving one from Toronto to Carlyle Pa. and back. They are very good driving cars
Well, I didn't know the US version of the Sierra was called the Merkur... learn something new everyday! Great looking motor, sure you'll have it running like a champ in no time. Great to see you back on the tools... Good man! 👌
Glad to see your back making videos and on a good path to dealing with your depression. I loved your f100 videos. I watched them all several times. I really learned a lot from them. Keep your head up brother. Happy days.
What a pleasant surprise to see you back so soon mate I'm really made up for ya fingers crossed the progress on the (Sierra) merkur? and your health goes smoothly. Best of luck me old mucker. 🇬🇧
Same thing happened to me. My insurance company switched me to a teva generic and I had every side effect listed. Switched to a different manufacturer, but it's never been as effective as the original. Good luck on your journey and I will always watch your content. Cheers!
That merkur motor bolts up to certain older Mercedes 190E and they move Use Royal Purple oil and 1 Lucas oil additive it might quite down the valve tap.
Thanks again guys for all the support and good vibes. I've read every single comment and they've all affected me positively and given me extra fuel to move forward...OK.....GAME ON!
Eyes wide open I’m so glad you’ve found a way to navigate your situation. Yeah, the pressure builds and it all comes out.
Air Strike Technologies wow! 10’s....she’s definitely living life to the fullest :) C03 tune? Are you running standalone?
I’m so glad you are back Nathan!! As you can see this community you have built genuinely cares about you.
We are all looking forward to the next video.

I stopped the video at 8s to say welcome back.. it’s a joy to see you back on screen. Looking forward to the Sierra XR4i project!. Now continue.. ;-)
Good to see you back in the XR4Ti. I’d be worried about the passages in the radiator and heater core, I bet they are blocked as well.
The rad seemed to flow pretty well with a garden hose...and yeah...the heater core for now is out of the equation. I'll probably spring for the MerkurDepot ally one when I want to plumb it back in.
Totally agree on the brand changes, i've found that i've been educating my Dr half the time on side effects (subtle and extreme) my depression was amplified by my spinal condition. i learned 2 key things- 1.Dont do shit ya dont have to unless you enjoy it. and B. Wise words
Great to see you! Thanks for all you do. Keep up the good work, one day at a time. God bless!
Hang in there brother. A lot of people out there dealing with the same issues. Myself included. Glad to see you back in the game.
Glad to see you back and with another XR! Personal wellness comes first always and you don't owe us anything so work to you and we'll enjoy it when you can share.

Nice to see an old XR4Ti in such great shape, most are driven into beyond the grave....
Great to see you back in the garage Nathan 👍🏻
Hell yeah bud I always did enjoy your vids man I am happy to see ya back pal !
I’m glad your back

Yeah its all good. The SVO Mustang has the same motor in it, I think it's just tighter on space in that car.
Good to hear from you. Thanks for sharing your work on the new project.
Thank you for being you !!!
Glad to see you back at it Nathan! I always look forward to your videos!! Keep up the good fight.
Keep fighting. Depression was a nightmare that took me two years to learn to manage. No meds now and sober for 4 1/2 years. Life is Beautiful. God Bless.

Nathan,
I had been wanted to write you a letter of support for what you are going through with your depression.
Bart
Keep looking after yourself mate good to see a bloke talk about it openly

Again love your work , don't give up keep going I know sometimes it's hard but you can do it

Thank you for sharing stay strong my brother god bless you and keep you strong
Thank you guys...yeah mental health help is definitely a difficult road to navigate. Stay strong and one foot win front of the other (I keep telling myself)
That poor thing has suffered from a severe lack of love and maintenance.
I have a friend that has a large collection of Merkurs . I have had the pleasure of driving one from Toronto to Carlyle Pa. and back. They are very good driving cars
Welcome back . Haven't seen one of those in a while good project
Well, I didn't know the US version of the Sierra was called the Merkur... learn something new everyday! Great looking motor, sure you'll have it running like a champ in no time. Great to see you back on the tools... Good man! 👌
Ahhh, good to have you back mate
Welcome back mate looking forward to more videos keep up the great work
Glad to see you back sir!!
Welcome back!
Great to see you back! Keep up the great work.
So (SOooooo) stoked you’re back! Pace yourself. Do things at YOUR pace, and enjoy it.
Same thing happened to me. My insurance company switched me to a teva generic and I had every side effect listed. Switched to a different manufacturer, but it's never been as effective as the original. Good luck on your journey and I will always watch your content. Cheers!
I remember when those Merkurs came out in the '80s, reminded me of Mercury cars for some reason.
Core that car would cost an arm and a leg back in the UK. Glad you have a new project.
A rust free Ford Sierra...Who'da thunk it
I know... Rare as rocking horse shit.....Great to see you back.
That merkur motor bolts up to certain older Mercedes 190E and they move Use Royal Purple oil and 1 Lucas oil additive it might quite down the valve tap.
May God bless you Nathan and I hope you and your family are doing well. I miss your videos. But your health and soul are more important then videos.
