It's been almost 10 months since my family were in VN. We are amazed by how peaceful VN is in general. We love these "tourist" spots such as Hoan Kiem Lake but unlike many other "tourist" places in the world, VN's hot spots have a lot of locals, families, old and young people, sharing the same space with foreign tourists. We like that feeling like we're just part of the community instead of being part of a tourist spot.
Great episode John! I'm checking out flights for sometime this summer to visit my friend Ben and of course I want to visit Hanoi. This episode was very interesting and informative about important things (not coffee!) and I found it useful as well as entertaining. Have you been doing more TV work? Take care man!

Hello John, glad you are back with another interesting video from Vietnam. I was in Hanoi in mid January this year and visited all the places you have focused in this video, after a 9 year absence including a second time of seeing Uncle Ho. Prior to my arrival I understood that Train Street was closed with safety in mind that I dropped the idea of getting there. I am now toying with the idea of going back end of January come 2024. God bless & please stay safe!
We’re thinking of going to Hanoi Feb 2024 after tet. Only been to Saigon 9 yrs ago. We loved it. I came to USA when I was 6 as part of the boat people. Now I’m 50. Looking forward to spending more time there now that our child is off to college. It’s on my bucket list to learn to read, write Vietnamese and improve my Vietnamese language skills beyond its current 3 yr old level. I Always enjoy your videos. You’re such an eloquent speaker.
Nice work, John. The ubiquitous egg coffee and bun cha eateries become a bit meh with so many vloggers doing it. I lived in Hanoi for two years a decade ago and returned last year to see how many of my old haunts survived C19. Most did, amazingly. Hanoi is a city I never get bored of and still find new places to explore. Can't wait to get back to the madness!
Time flies. I remember watching you on periscope in 2016 just before my first trip to vietnam. And had similar experiences of students coming up to me practicing their English. Hope to visit again soon

Yes I couldn’t agree with you more on the value of visiting places that are regular spots for locals to hangout.
