  • welcomeee, this is my life at the University of College London. I am a first-year studying history and my survey modules are The Hellenistic World and Bronze Age States. I am currently in my 2nd term, and uni life is really wonderful. Although there is stress bc of the workload, if you stay consistent with your work then you should be good. I am veryyy lucky to have really awesome kitchen mates, who you will see featured throughout the video.
    My tips:
    1. be self-catered (no nasty cafeteria food + friends)
    2. find a good study spot outside your accom
    3. it's okay to join clubs at random times, no one cares
If you have any questions about being a student at UCL or living in London, feel free to ask in the comments :)

loved the video! i just got an offer from ucl but i'm still trying to decide between ucl and st andrews. do you get lost in London? everyone's telling me there isn't much of a community at ucl

Oh I was also choosing between St Andrews and UCL! I think it just depends if you want to live in a city or small town. I haven’t had trouble finding friends and there’s always new people to meet in societies! Hope this helps :)

@@florencenicholls681 no problem, I forgot about the first question and no I don't get lost. UCL is in central London, which after a bit, is easy to navigate.

A community at Uni is what you make it. It starts and ends with the students . There are so many fantastic societies that you can join depending on your interests, but in London there are so many other things to do outside of Uni life. Hope you found the right fit for you.😊

@@nolaamak you’re welcome! videos like yours are really hard to come across on youtube so i’m glad i stumbled upon them haha
but yeah i do have some questions! :)
      1) how did you meet your group of friends?
      2) how often would you say you go out to places like soho in a week?
      3) what’s been your favourite thing to study so far?
      4) in your questions with a ucl video, i heard that you’re interested in east asian history (as am i🥴) and wished there was more choice regarding that specific type of history. since you’re still in first year, do you know of any east asian modules in second and third year?
      💞

      1) Most of my friends are from my accom. I really recommend applying to self-catered because it's easier to make friends with the ppl in your kitchen.
      2) it really depends on the workload. I think first term like 2-3x a week and in 2nd term maybe like 1x.
      3) Hmm, I've enjoyed my making history module which is project-based. I learned about medieval relics and reliquaries in this module.
      4) Yes, the lack of East Asian history has def been one of the cons of my UCL experience so far. Currently, the courses I know are: ancient and medieval Chinese history; War, Rebellion, and Social Discontent in Modern China; awakening a generation China’s new culture, East Asian medicine. As you can see there are a couple options but they are all centered around China and no other Asian country. I'm really counting on my year abroad to be able to study more about East Asian history.

hi there! I am a prospective ucl history ma student and I was wondering how would you say the workload is? Is UCL more theory based for history or is it a nice combination of theory/actively learning about events/different time periods throughout the history? I am debating between king's and ucl and while ucl is my top choice, I am worried the modules might be too theory based compared to kcl! I'm an international student too so I was wondering how the social life is or just in general how the students are! I could not find any videos on history students at ucl so coming across your channel has been so helpful!:)

In my opinion, the workload is very manageable. I am only in my first year though, so I'm sure it just gets harder from here, lol. I found it to be a combo of theory and info on different events/time periods. It is difficult to say how a masters degree would differ. My mandatory modules were more theory based (giving us an introduction to historiography) and my electives were more event focused. Once again, I'm not sure about the ma program, but for undergraduates, we do have 5 or so KCL intercollegiate modules that we may pick from. I really enjoy my social life here, though I feel I was very lucky with my accommodation as most of my friends are my flatmates. My other friends are ones I've met in class or clubs. Though I can say that the students are all very nice here. I'm glad the channel has been helpful! Good luck with deciding!!

Ooh, so I'm at campbell house east. The facilities are pretty rough but I like how communal it is because of the kitchen layout. The location is really nice as well (right next to main campus). Living in London has also been really nice because there's so much to explore in the city :)
