Vegetable appetizers. Meaty appetizers. Fresh fruit appetizers. Mini desserts. Too often have to bring something to a meeting or gathering and just need some new ideas. Am a big fan of carrots as long as they ain't sweetened and have been trying to figure some kind of appetizer using them besides seasoned and roasted baby carrots on a toothpick. Have stacked roasted carrots and b. sprouts and impaled them with a toothpick and even drizzled them with a balsamic vinaigrette, but not a whole lot of ideas using carrots, and carrot tarts ain't really my favorite even though others like them. Just really tired of the same old same old and would really like to crank it up and rip the knob off while still staying southern. Surely y'all've got some ideas that would give the biddies something to talk about besides each other. . For all of y'all that are wondering.... Y'all've = you all have; the plural of you've. Biddies = not necessarily "old" biddies, but them too. Crank it up and rip the knob off = turn it up loud enough so's everybody knows it's happening. So's = so as That's Appalachia root speakin' volume 1.
Oooooh my mouth is watering! Those potatoes look so good! I know my family would LOVE those! I'd have to make a LOT of them... And I'm quite alright with that... Lol! Paula I could eat 6 or more myself lol! Those hamburger looked so delicious! I rarely crave a hamburger but now I'm craving one just like y'all made here. I've never cared a whole lot for Thousand Island Dressing, but a homemade dressing on a burger (as long as it didn't taste like a McDonald's Big Mac lol) I think I would really enjoy. All I know is now I am craving these potatoes and hamburgers BAD lol gotta make 'em very soon! Thank you so much Paula for the amazing recipes!!
If you brown up them potatoes before you add the stuff to 'em, they're a lot better cause the caramelization adds a lot of flavor but also adds a little more stability to them when you take a bite and they won't easily fall apart in your hand because they're so tender. Fried green tomatoes on a cheeseburger are good, just hard sometimes to give up a good ripe tomato for it. But fried green tomatoes should be from tomatoes grown in your own garden or from a dependable farmers market vendor and not bought from a grocery store that got them from across the border somewheres that have no flavor. By dependable farmers market I mean to warn folks that some "farmers markets" will be secondary stalls for grocery chains to sell produce that comes from other countries and more often than not they just don't taste right. Pay attention to what they transport their produce in cause that will usually give them away as frauds, but you can also grill them with questions about how and where they're growing their produce and they'll usually stumble through their lies too. Never seen nobody add eggs to the dressing before. I make a fry sauce that little kids and even big kids can't get enough of, and it's just homemade mayo and homemade ketchup, but on occasion will add some dill relish to it, not sweet. Mayo is a common dip for fries in European countries, and ketchup in America, so had some folks with a bunch of younguns from both areas of the world a long time ago and just combined the two, and turned the whole bunch to using fry sauce. Though I'm a big dijon fan, if there ain't none around, mixing up a sauce to go on a burger sure beats just plain mayo. And that sure looked like a good pepper jack they used, and I'd put two slices on my burger!!! Hate it when she does them out of season videos, cause now I'm craving fried green tomatoes!!!!
Thank you for the great idea; I'm looking forward to making the pecan pies and freezing most of them until a special occasion arrives to fry them up. and serve them warm with vanilla ice cream. Heavenly decadent !
The pecan pies look yummy. They look like the Cuban empanadas I make. I wonder if I can just use the Goya pre made dough to make this? Instead of pie crust?
Hello there Paula and Bobby. It is always so good to see you all. Your recipes are very good but I'm not a big fan of hot spicy food. Well that okay because everybody tastes buds are different. Thanks for everything you do
We just cut them into bite size pieces and toss them in yellow cornmeal, the slim helps it stick, and then fry till golden brown. Sprinkle with salt after you get it out of the fryer.
What other recipes would you like to see with a Southern twist?
Maybe something with a praline crust, such as a pork roast or loin, or maybe brownies!
Anything your and the boys cook is delicious thanks for sharing take care 🙂💜🙂

We just cut them into bite size pieces and toss them in yellow cornmeal, the slim helps it stick, and then fry till golden brown. Sprinkle with salt after you get it out of the fryer.
