Thanks for another very enjoyable video, Phil! I really enjoyed seeing the overhead photos of the property now and years ago. I agree the trees and other nature features have gotten a bit overgrown. Hopefully, you can find someone who can help you get things trimmed and establish a regular maintenance program.
The outdoor property had a groundskeeper and summertime help in the old days, and it still needs one! The interior also had staff back then who would keep it in good repair, and they're still needed. You are trying to fill those roles, and it's more work than one person can manage.
Here's an idea: make a plan for a week next spring invite all your friends, mark the trees you want to take down, and have a huge tree removal party. I know it sounds rough but just might work though. That wallpaper looks like a huge pain in the behind. Good luck on that one. Have a great day
Mix fabric softener with water about 1/4 softener to 3/4 water. After you have used the spiked thingy, spray the fabric softener wait 5 min and scrap off.
Here in the US, I enjoy scrapping off wallpaper. My 100+ year old house had a coal furnace. Every year new wallpaper was added to cover the coal dust on the walls. Interesting wallpaper, but very dirty. The fun part is the layer of paint between layers of wallpaper. Under the original layer of paper was wheat paste mold. A mixture of bleach and water with the use of a scribe brush cleans it very nicely. The main floor is 14 feet heigh and the second floor is 12 feet heigh. Two more rooms on the main floor and then up to the attic for more fun.
Slowly but surely you will get the job done. Phil, the place looks so much clearer outside now. I remember it being almost clastrophobic feeling and then you started working on stuff.
Phil, Sadie used some great wallpaper remover in the Convent apartment on the outer walls ask her it might make life a bit easier to remove it. It all takes time to get the grounds manageable and everything organized how it needs to be. Again you must do what brings you joy!
You should mark which trees need to come down now for safety and then get Billy to come over and help you take them down for some of the fire wood for his place. That will make it a win, win for both of you.
Removing the extra trees will change the type of wildlife, not totally remove it all. Ducks would be nice. Love watching your progress, step by step. Thanks for sharing.
For The landscapes. Make a plan, break it down in to what is most important, in the size you can do it. Consult with arborists and horticulturalists. Great job on the wall paper! Alternatively, find the project you really want to focus on. If this isn’t it. What do you enjoy doing? Find it. Do it!
I am not a builder or carpenter or anything creative, but I see these beutiful homes and my first thoughts are ca-ching ca-ching.....the money he money the money and man-hours that it's gonna take and I'm so happy that some people are hexcited to take that all on and just go for it. I'm proud of you all.
Ed, I so loved the shade from my Maple trees, one sheltered my cars, the other in the back gave shade to our deck that would get to hot to use in the southern sun here. After 30 yrs the roots were damaging the foundation of our home. No choice but to remove them. But new trees are in and I will manage them to stay low. And away from the house. No maple trees for me. Only trees that will not exceed 25 ft and more evergreens, than leaves.
I know the trees aren't supposed to be there and create extra work but boy those leaves are beautiful. The colours are stunning! But I can say that coming from an area of the world that doesn't get autumn leaf fall and doesn't have to clean it up lol.
It is great to see you back in the bedroom suite and explaining the difficulties with vinyl wallpaper. It is a big room, but I am very eager to see your vision come to light. It is going to be very stylish. 😃
I think the moat definitely needs some tidying up and clearing out, and when costs aren't too high, maybe remove all of the cement render on the outside and replace it with lime? That way you don't suffer from mold issues. I'd hate to see any more trees get cut down besides from the perimeter of the moat, but you need to do what is best. Lots of positive wishes sending your way Phil, you're tackling a lot seemingly on your own. Enjoy your weekend.
Check with Ryan what he used at the apartment in the convent to strip the plastic wallpaper, he found something that made it easier. For the outside, get a landscape consult done, a plan as it were with your ideas...once you have a plan it will be easier to attack, one tree at a time
Phil, the front vinyl bit should just rip off then you can use the steamer on the backing. That was their big sell, they are dry rip off wallpaper. Give it a go it should be easier ❤❤🎉🎉 keep on keeping on. We’re with you !!
Well done. I found with vinyl wallpaper it was easier remove from the top down as the water penetrates behind the paper as it runs down the wall behind the coating into the under layer soaking it off.
Phil, the drive looks great after you blew off all the leaves. The wallpaper situation sucks, but it is coming along although slowly. Hope you had an enjoyable time on your night out. Cheers
Enjoy how cathartic it is for you to re-do the master suite. I love the Navy color idea: very elegant and masculine! (You HAVE gotten new bed linens, haven't you?)
I am willing to bet that. If you started at the top of a wall. Gravity would pull the water down and behind the paper(or vinyl). Making it a lot easier.
Just do a couple of hours each day frim Mon - Friday of wallpaper stripping then do something else in another room even if its sorting out a cupboard or folding linen thats not used at the moment. Trimming a few trees or bushes the variation will be better for you and you will get so much more done than you realised. Its important to have weekends with friends and a good laugh, 'Me time' can lift you up so much. 💕🇦🇺
The conundrum with trees breaks my heart! If they're causing structural damage that's bad news. But they are so beautiful, and I actually prefer the gardens the way they are now, with the trees semi-screening views of the house. In those old photos the house looked too stark and exposed for my taste. But that's just my opinion. If you plan on doing some clearing, PLEASE go lightly and take out as few trees as possible 🙏🏻
I remember doing wallpaper stripping 30 years ago and vowed never to have it in any house I owned ! Re the trees, totally agree, and the house would look way better too.
While I'm not a fan of everyday clear cutting I do believe there are times when it's necessary. You plugging away here and there isn't working. Perhaps knocking everything down and then dealing with stumps is a way to go. Glad it's your decision and not mine. 😊 👍👍👍
Would a royal blue instead of navy blue lighten up the bedroom , but still keep it darker than what it is now? I do love the navy blue idea. Good luck with your project! So fun to watch your channel.
Full steam ahead, it will be fabulous when it’s done. 💪 I’ve heard dishwasher tabs diluted in hot water help with wallpaper removal. Not tried it myself, but worth a go?
Phil, at 5:00 you were pulling down on the vinyl covering instead of pulling up. No wonder it tears off. You want to create an upward force instead of a downward force. There are TH-cam video's explaining this. It's wonderful seeing your enthusiasm in repairing the room. Gotta figure a way to let the exterior breath.
I wonder how much the heating system would benefit from replacing the huge black steel pipes and outdated single-pipe system with a properly sized network of MLCP or multi-couche as it's called in French. The smaller pipes would also be easier to hide. As you said, a massive project though.
Another thought: I see you have a few paint sample colors. With small samples you can't really see the true color. Buy the smallest container of each color you choose. Actually paint good size sample areas of each color on the walls. Remember color looks different in different light, so paint samples on opposite walls, so you can see them in daylight and night/artificial light. As you narrow your choices down paint out the ones you no longer like, with either primer or use more of a/the color you do like. Enjoy!!!
Hi Phil. You mentioned cement on the exterior of the château. Does that mean you have to chisel out all the cement and replace it with a lime render? Thank you!
Phil, would it help if you hired an arborist to do the tree pruning and removal that is necessary to bring the landscaping back to where it should be? You already have photos of what you want it to look like so that should make the job easier.
I don't think he can afford. He talks about this problem for years..never solved the issue..he never gets to the big issues at the property. Just cosmetic stuff and he talks about the project for months with no progress either...I don't know if he just doesn't have the time or the skills to get stuff done
Unfortunately Phil, trees will need to be cut. Like you say, it has become overgrown & you need to protect your asset. Maybe in the Spring, you can acquire some help & just be ruthless. No emotion here. It had to be done. Otherwise, your grounds are looking very tidy. Well done & good luck with the wallpaper. Perseverance. 😅
try scoring with a corner of a scraper in a criss cross diagonally on the paper and the water steam will penetrate through it will be easy to take off then
Phil you have friends who father & grd father taught them well on remodels etc. Billy & Michael ask the correct questions for you to see your own vision of the Chateau.
You need to remove the ones that are causing structural damage to the building and the moat! However, one person can only do so much. Is there any of your subscribers who is a tree doctor or landscape architect?
How well you get rid of the mould Phil.? They obviously didn't add lime in the outside rendering. A beautiful garden. Yes trees are georgous, but can create some issues.
In that situation I would go for taking out 4 or five trees every year (from the bank). That should be manageable with tidy-up and all. As for inside, The less 'stuff' you have in the house that isn't being used is just clutter.. Caan you sell it or give it away...just get it out of the chateau.
Please wear a mask when dealing with the moldy paper. It looks like black mold and that almost killed lled my sister. It put her in the hospital and she had to move. You don't need to get sick with all you plan on accomplishing. 💜💙💜
Master Lighting. I know you said NO to chandelier. With the high ceilings a simple ceiling fixture will not produce much lighting for your space. I would choose something like West Elm Mobile Chandelier 29-55" with movable adjustable arms to point light in specific areas of the room. It allows standard bulbs and a dimmer switch for a low light. Your side bed wall appears you could add trim to hide some new electrical for adding sconces on each side of the bed. I like a pop of modern within a French Chateau. Not everywhere but in your personal space it would be acceptable and removes the tall lamps and table lamps. Save those for your personal library, edit room...
...actually, the interior bed wall could have insulation/structure put in place to add electrical for the wall sconces and insulate from the 'cold' interior of the chateau, . A fabric headboard that has some height can also create some insulation and needed warmth in the winter
Thank you for making me regret again, ever selling anyone 1sq ft of that horrendous vinyl wall covering. I knew what was making your walls perpetually wet, first time I saw it. I can still remember the sales pitch for that awful junk. Hope you had a lovely time out, you deserve it 😉👍
So, first thing you change is WORK FROM THE TOP DOWN, please please please. Same as washing a car with pressure washer, you start from the top, the FREE water running down is extra efficient… same for wall paper removal, the steam turning into water adds to everything under… I will keep giving you instructions as you go.
It is not meant to be critical, but I believe it is now known as the "primary bedroom" as opposed to the "master" bedroom . At least here in North America. You're doing a great job, though. I don't envy you removing the dreaded wallpaper. It's such a messy and annoying task. Keep on keeping on!
Why not get some help , I think you have said before something about not getting help , but this is too much for 1 person.Give yourself a bit of a break and get some help for your peace of mind.
Each day is a day nearer keep it up while you can…the wallpaper stripping. You will not regret it and it’s a one off! Off to the bar and have a great night❤❤🫶
Phil you seem to be finding a renewed sense of yourself. It’s been wonderful to see your growth. Proud of you❣️
Thanks for another very enjoyable video, Phil! I really enjoyed seeing the overhead photos of the property now and years ago. I agree the trees and other nature features have gotten a bit overgrown. Hopefully, you can find someone who can help you get things trimmed and establish a regular maintenance program.
Fabulous Fireplace snd Mirror …. Yes it should be the focal point
Absolutely agree!!!
The outdoor property had a groundskeeper and summertime help in the old days, and it still needs one! The interior also had staff back then who would keep it in good repair, and they're still needed. You are trying to fill those roles, and it's more work than one person can manage.

Mix fabric softener with water about 1/4 softener to 3/4 water. After you have used the spiked thingy, spray the fabric softener wait 5 min and scrap off.
Totally agree

Perfect day for a Phil Show 😂. I do so enjoy your videos!
He can't afford help...otherwise I'm.sure he would have done already..it has been years that he talks about this problem
I’m so happy to see you looking good and sounding happy. Always enjoyable videos. Enjoy your weekend.
You have a beautiful home. It’s a great privilege to see around it. Yes you have lots to do, but it’s for you, so that makes it all worthwhile.😊
All work and no play, makes Phil a dull boy!! Have a good night out.
Removing the extra trees will change the type of wildlife, not totally remove it all. Ducks would be nice. Love watching your progress, step by step. Thanks for sharing.
Ducks on the water would be fine, duck scat on dry land where you and Lightening walk, not so much.
Phil, you need Stefanie and Dan Preston’s guy to come in and help clear the trees 🌳
And don't forget Davie. He's the one who plans their gardens.
It’s Nick !🌲🌲🌲
Nick is amazing
"the wiring is interesting" got quite a laugh.
Look after yourself, Phil. Little by little you will achieve many of your dreams.
Hey Phil you need Nick from chateau Chamont (think that’s how you spell it ) Dans place and Stephanie’s from chateau diaries 😊
Chaumont. I think he's quite busy and quite far away but there should be other capable arborists.
For The landscapes. Make a plan, break it down in to what is most important, in the size you can do it. Consult with arborists and horticulturalists. Great job on the wall paper! Alternatively, find the project you really want to focus on. If this isn’t it. What do you enjoy doing? Find it. Do it!
Great update Phil. See you soon Judith 🦋
Yea the mirror and fire place beautiful and yeah a lot of trees around mote need to go have fun tonight ❤
You deserve a night off. Take care of yourself and stay safe 🙏 ❤️
Idea💡 Have Nick remove trees on Dan’s dime, give Dan the trees for his restoration. Win-win😉 Hugs from sunny Arizona💖😎💖
I am not a builder or carpenter or anything creative, but I see these beutiful homes and my first thoughts are ca-ching ca-ching.....the money he money the money and man-hours that it's gonna take and I'm so happy that some people are hexcited to take that all on and just go for it. I totally get all the cleanup.
Be safe
❤
Keep at it, you will get it done.
Hello from Niagara Canada 🇨🇦

Wow a lot of work to clear outside Phil .Enjoy your evening
Phil, I hope you are pleased with your progress. It looks great!
Have a good evening Phil see you next time
I know the trees aren't supposed to be there and create extra work but boy those leaves are beautiful. The colours are stunning! But I can say that coming from an area of the world that doesn't get autumn leaf fall and doesn't have to clean it up lol.
Enjoy your evening you have earned it 🤗👍🍻🍻🍻🍻
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing 😊
Friday night is freedom night. Enjoy Phil, X
It is great to see you back in the bedroom suite and explaining the difficulties with vinyl wallpaper. It is a big room, but I am very eager to see your vision come to light. It is going to be very stylish. 😃
Thank you so much for this video. It is going to fantastic when you finish and it will be interesting as you go along with the videos. God bless.

You're doing a great job despite the fiddly bits of wallpaper. To thin out the trees is a monumental job. Enjoy your evening off!
Phil, the drive looks great after you blew off all the leaves.
The wallpaper situation sucks, but it is coming along although slowly.
Hope you had an enjoyable time on your night out.
Cheers
Great vlog as always Phil.
God Love You! Phil, you can not do everything! At some point, it is time to bring in help!
Either he can't afford or he has too big of an ego..he has been talking about these jobs for years now
Enjoy how cathartic it is for you to re-do the master suite. I love the Navy color idea: very elegant and masculine! (You HAVE gotten new bed linens, haven't you?)
And a very good evening to you too, Phil.
I am willing to bet that. If you started at the top of a wall. Gravity would pull the water down and behind the paper(or vinyl). Making it a lot easier.
You need a consultation with Nick Jackson to come up with a plan for the tree situation. He's sorting out Stephanie's and Dan's forests.
Just do a couple of hours each day frim Mon - Friday of wallpaper stripping then do something else in another room even if its sorting out a cupboard or folding linen thats not used at the moment. Just take out the conifers, birds do not nest or live in those sort of trees, that would take a lot of the problems away😊

Cut the trees down!!! 😂💚 their young trees you can replant hedges or something to replace the greenery

I have never understood leaf blowing. Whow there is a wood burner in the fire place. You deserve a sit down and a nice cup of (tea).

There is a product here in the US , called Magic Sliders, that u put under legs of furniture and viola easy moving around!
Also ask Sadie, Billy’s sister, what product she sprayed on her walls to remove wallpaper! It was great!
You need to remove the ones that are causing structural damage to the building and the moat! However, one person can only do so much. Is there any of your subscribers who is a tree doctor or landscape architect?

I always wondered how a chateau stays dry and not damp when it has water (moat) up against it? Enjoy your content..and wallpaper stripping is a pain..
What about a scraper on a long , extendable pole ???
I don't blame you as I wouldn't want to strip wallpaper either.
I find stripping wallpaper therapeutic painting too

PHIL …. SADIE found a liquid she painted on and the wall paper just peeled off… ASK BILLY OR SADIE for the name of it.

You really need tree removal of the banks.
