Happy 2025 to you and your loved ones Tochi! So nice to see you talking about something you love and are passionate about! I’d love to hear your thoughts on squid game season 2. It’s an interesting season but a bit of a slow burner in the first two episodes however.
really taking in “Underwater” from Ghost, thanks for the recommendation musically and lyrically it’s like some rap Princess Momonoke/Spirited Away shit in a good way I just love how vivid and cinematic it is, DOOM really put his foot in that one 🌊😤
Being someone from ny not nyc but jus outside the boroughs it’s refreshing to see the people mostly from outside the US give us our proper due. Bc it’s dead annoying dealing wit west coast cats and southerners who want to act like we not like that for a genre we built and I like people from all over but it’s jus nice to hear. That being said I’m not bumping either of these songs again lol I never been big on e-40 and supernatural I Hurd of but never got into bumping him he’s b4 I was even born lmao
What you think about MC-Eiht? I heard some say his flow could be a bit off at times. But I really fw a bunch of his songs. He was one of the few west coast gangsta rappers at the time that wasn’t on that G-Funk wave. His stuff got a east coast flavor to it
(2:27 - 3:00) I mean, his moniker is, "40 Water." LOL Thank you for the nostalgia, as I used to watch the "Rap Olympics" with my mother, as a child (born 1992).
Huge E-40 fan, but I lot of stuff from him I like is mainly in the 2000’s and onward, not to say the 90’s stuff was bad but the beats are a bit too inactive for me, if you like tell me when to go I’d recommend muscle cars
I’m from LA but roots in NYC via my pops and his people etc..I love this video, because I think it highlights how underrated kurupt is in Cali. E40s catalog doesn’t have a we can freak it by kurupt, or gz up hoes down by snoop. I like some of 40s records but very few far in between. Kurupt doesn’t get the credit he deserves in Cali just my opinion.
@ agreed! That shit rings every start of spring/summer in Cali! And other regions in America every-time summer hits like clock work. That beat by battle at is disgusting! 🤢
Hey, tochi, is it just me but why does it seem like NY is the most hate state in the genre even though it's the birthplace. Its like all California ever wants to do is spin a east coast/west coast narrative. Then there's Atlanta having this weird inferiority complex, e.g. "all we do is play our own music on radio", like how can you participate in hiphop and hate the soul of it which is the new yorker life style. I'm from Chicago so am suppose to act and meat ride for my set like they do😆. To me it comes of as envious.
Nobody is envious the east coast hasn’t been relevant in 2 decades lol but to answer your question people like music that is relatable midwest has their style west coast has their and south has theirs depending on where you are born you are just gonna naturally gravitate towards your sound you are familiar with and what do you mean spin a east coast/west coast narrative?

I would like it if you could hear some of my work and potentially grab an OG’s ear. If not, could you at least set me up with some underground hip hop from back then?
