- With that soul dancin' beat
Know just what I mean
Oh yeah
Somewhere on a green hill
Love is waiting there
Singin that sad songs to me
Show me with the sympathy
I said I'm waiting for the right time,
Like a blue bird out to land.
Oh and my love
Is so endless
It is waiting
To be free
Yeah now
Give me that soul dancin beat
[You] know just what I mean
Think you know the fast times,
I wonder where they've gone now,
Where they as good as I make out?
[I] Wonder what went wrong
Yeah used to be so close then
Not just make believe
And you know it makes me cry now,
Before the good times gone
Hey but in my mind,
Just like dreams
And it's longing
To rebuild now
Now waiting half for this lifetime
So again we'll be happy
It don't make any sense now to you
Know just what I mean
The why I'm try to sing a soul song to you
Babe just what I mean
Just doing that soul dance with me
Know just what I mean
Oh yeah
Somewhere on green hill
Yeah now
Love is waiting there
Oh and my love
It's so endless
It's waiting, to be free
Ya now, waiting for that right time
So again we'll be happy
Whoah now, yeah
Yeah, Now now now yeah
Uh huh uh
I'm so glad this was never recorded properly, this dog rough recording is magic.
I’m 63 and I still haven’t forgiven Paul for splitting my favourite band, and yes I told Paul when I met up with him. I got divorced in 82 , my tears wasn’t for the wife, the jam was my life and still is.
Oh dear , that's a bit tragic ! 40 years of amazing music you've missed out on .
This type of tunes could be a hit these days, it's catchy! Love every unreleased songs they made, always top like their records!.
Awesome why has this tune never been on any Jam albums..?
Can´t believe this precedes the first releases! Beautiful tune! Thank you for sharing!
This would have been a hit song.
Went on to be the best band ever.
this is like a keystone for jam fans. great tune and early pics. TY
Left, Right And Centre dates from December of '75, which completely blows my mind- it sounds so much like late Jam, early Style Council. Funny that they've kept their pre-punk roots so deeply buried! I don't see what they have to be ashamed of; I find it totally fascinating, there should be an official release of these early archives.
Think there was an early demo of Got By In Time, not sure when it was cut though.
1976
Aha! I was just looking at a book of bizarre '60s guitars and there was Weller's Rick copy: It's a Firstman "Baron", made in Japan circa '67-'69.
What a great tune...👊
Brilliant tune just wish there was a video
Like it. Never heard it before - goes to show you learn something new everyday! 'Jaqueline' by The Coral has a similar vibe.
hey, ta whoever you are for putting this on coz its new to me, mate, i thought i had it all by the jam, good on ya. been the jam all my life
Wish I knew why a song can cut straight through to the core of you...
Recorded May 28th, 1976 at Bob Potter's studio, on one of Joe Meek's old 4-track machines (and Fairchild compressor, more importantly!)
Who is playing piano? The short-lived pianist Bob Gray?
What is that strange Japanese Rickenbacker copy Weller's playing at 2:28? So many questions, so little answers! This is a very cool tune.....
Yeah it's totally him I emailed him today and he confirmed :) (Bob Gray)
Brilliant.
this is sooo nice....
thank you sooooooo much this is awesome!!!!
Nice xx
some good pics there..was it really so long ago????? Lordy, where has all the time gone?
Everybody has to start somewhere.
I know they're all 60s influenced, but it's ALL 60's!! wow"
brill thanks for putting this up ACE one plus ditto sohairygary
There is piano in there surely? Who was playing that I wonder? Reminds me of The Coral. Great stuff. Oops said similar, seven years ago..
The piano is played by a Bob Grey. I know nothing about him though.
beautiful! where does this come from ??
Added lyrics, with many thanks to Robert Pielock!
"like a bluebird on it's line"
Steve Brookes on lead vocal?
anyone know whether this is a cover or a Jam original? I have tried to search the web for information, but come up blank.
great tune! can anyone please tell me where to find the lyric?
Working on it - there's a few things that are not to clear but I'll post a response when I can
....AAA
Actually sounds a bit like Thin Lizzy (the only hard rock band I ever liked). Great tune, shame it never got a full production and official release.
This comparison seems crazy, but it's true! Thin Lizzy is great.
Phil lynott wrote some very soulful songs, check out his solo albums, theres hardly any rock. Nicely spotted, there was something i couldnt quite put my finger on.
Where can i get a copy?
They hadn't been touched by punk yet.
i THINK WHAT HE HAS SAID IS TRUE...he wished that he had dark skin and could've gone down the r&b route....I DO TOO
Nah, I think the massive shit came immediately after leaving The Jam!
Actually his solo work is tops. I just hated his work with the Style Clowncil.
I agree. The Style Council were shit.
