Yes, there are some suggested setups using combinations of the three sets and the base game and Golden Temples. You can't use Golden Temples w/ just Heroes and Hexes, which is another reason to start with the original base game.
I am unsure if this game (with this expansion) will be anywhere close to Clank legacy though, as I find the first game to simply be inferior to base Clank. Thoughts?
I'd take El Dorado over Clank, personally... It feels much more strategic to me. I don't think this expansion would change your mind if you inherently prefer the Clank system though.

I love the base game and so far have not been tempted by any of the expansions (not even the caves). This one also looks like a huge pass for me.
