I did three shows with them. Once I auditioned with them for the Gong Show. We worked on the Gong Show pilot for its second time around in 1988. Then we performed at a rest home for a benefit show about 1990. I saw them perform once about 1992 at a book store. They were fabulous and very nice people.
Huell Howser (KCET) did two episodes with them in the eighties and the second, follow up show (don't know when he did it) was quite sad. One of the sisters had died and Huell interviewed the two survivors and they were crushed and didn't know how they would be able to continue touring and performing on the circuit of convalescent hospitals they played.
I got to know the ladies in the mid 1980's, they were delightful ! they loved to perform , and I believe they were not the type of people who were desperate to be adored, like so many big time performers. For the Del Rubio's it was a life of sharing their talent, and the love god put in their hearts!
Wow! They were actually really good (and STUNNING) in their younger days! They become such a novelty act...dare I say "joke" in they're older years. But...I still loved 'em!
But really, even in this incarnation you can see the hints of what they became during the 80s comeback: taking a contemporary song (in this case Rock Around the Clock) and turning it into an anachronism.
They were great and sweet. So devoted to each other they only lived with each other...and never married or had children because it might hinder their act.
I guess I can’t understand that since I am not a twin or triplet. To me that would be kind of sad, and I personally prolly would have lived with great regret….
It is quite possible that there were other reasons why they never had relationships outside of themselves. They may have been hermaphroditic, in which case it would have been all but impossible to live discreetly during those times. They could have been lesbian, but that, while also very difficult given their circumstances and the time they lived in, would not necessarily have prevented outside relationships. The only thing I can think of that would produce a “we only have each other” attitude would be either a horrible history of sexual abuse (nothing to suggest that), or the hermaphroditic condition that would have given them each a “secret” that at that time would have been unthinkable to disclose.
This should have many more views and likes than it does. I am shocked. These ladies were truly talented. I would never call them a novelty. They just loved to work and entertain.

Watching a rerun of Full House brought me here, I saw them and knew I had to get to know them. I've been scouring the web, and have been so impressed with these beautiful women and you would be too.

Someone told me they were very early transgendered al la “Christine Jorgensen” style. He said u could tell by the physical characteristics like where the arms & shoulders meet. I am not saying it’s true.

I knew of these ladies mainly from Golden Girls. They were gorgeous in their youth.
