- Hotel California Guitar Lesson - Easy Version
Welcome to my Hotel California Guitar Lesson by The Eagles. Such a classic song. Beautiful all around. I have gotten a lot of requests for this song on TH-cam and through the contact form, so I figured why not.
So this version here is going to be the “Easy” version using a capo on the second fret. We will still be in the same key as the original, so you will be able to play along with The Eagles, but it’s going to have less barre chords than the original which is always helpful.
In the easy version, we only have one barre chord to contend with which is the F major barre chord, but, capoed at the second fret, it should be easier to play. If not, you can always use the Fmaj7 chord below.
The strumming will vary between the verse and the chorus, but you can stick to a simple strumming pattern throughout the entire song if you choose. Obviously, this song has quite an amazing intro which we won’t be going over here, but feel free to do some finger picking if that pleases you as well.
I do give some easy examples of strumming patterns in the video that you can use. All of the patterns can be applied to the original version of the song.

Thanks Lauren. Great stuff as always for a beginner. Comments in the video about for instance the difficulty of multiple up strums in a row are encouraging as they highlight your understanding of beginner struggles. Not impossible for me but still a bit tricky for me to get smoothly at this point.
Yes, go slow is my biggest tip. Work out the timing and the counting. Super important then speed up.

Thank you, this was finanlly very easy to understand and very well explained. I'm a beginner and can grab the chords and play parts of songs but now wanna learn complete songs. Have still difficulties to grab the F-chord but practicing this song will help. Enjoyed this lesson and will watch it propably many times more coming days.

In 1975 the girl of my dreams at school used to walk around between lessons with HC the album under her arm ( i don’t know why but many used to do it back then) Of course i had to go get a copy to hopefully impress her.. I wish I had found you 6 years ago when I first started on the guitar. I've gone through 3 different instructors and never found one that actually knew how to teach. Every lesson started the same way, "What do you want to do today?" I was looking for someone to take me through a progression but none of them were able to do so. They did not have a plan. You on the other hand seem to understand how to teach.
I finally ended up using online lessons and finding my own way. This was also hard as I liken online guitar lessons much like walking into a candy store. There are choices everywhere and they all look good, so which one do I choose.

@@LaurenBateman This is one of those songs that can be played many different ways. Counting the original version I think the lead can be played 6 different ways and rythm 7 or 8. Just so many ways to play it. Good beginner lesson. I believe you giving enough to set up the hook lol.

Hey Lauren, thanks for the tutorial. As usual very well done. The first riff I ever learned was Was a single string, “smoke on the water” that you taught. It looks like were a teenager giving a lesson from your bedroom at that time 😄

Oh jeez, I've been playing the chorus wrong all this time. I was using the Dm instead of the E7! Also , I love the picking of the high strings in the intro . I'll incorporate that now! My strumming is still atrocious. I just kind of do it by feel.

I plan on mixing your beginner version with some licks from the advanced version mixed with some licks from the live version that the eagles band plays live to make up my own unique version for the intro to this song ! So it won’t be a beginner version anymore but it also won’t be as complicated or as precise as what is on the real record either ! So my unique version of the intro to this song will sound somewhere in between your beginner version and the advanced version which will give me a unique intermediate version type of sound ! Lol :)

How To Stay Humble Playing Like That Omg ! I Have A Problem When Holding The Chords, My Guitar Sounds Dead The Only Time I Like The Sound Is When Am Playing The Chords With Only Two Fingers.
