    Loving your channel. The narrative in explaining what you’re doing is refreshing. More sailing, the music is very enjoyable. May the winds be with you.

      Thank you David. I want this channel to have a lot of sailing but I have a lot of footage of my semi-refit and it’s fun to share that as well. Once I catch up to current date it’s more sailing than boat work but both until then. Thankfully the next episode has time out on the water. Cheers!

    Nice afternoon sail - thanks for taking us along for the ride and I like your channel - perhaps for docking you could lay out some form of protector for the boat especially on the ends? Also, to dock it might be a good idea to take a forward cleated springer and cleat it to the dock off the stern first... but hey, nice sail and I like your boat... especially the price you paid - really good buy!!

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. I have a fender, centered, going from cleat to cleat across my slip. Is that what you mean by “cleated springer”?
      That day was just a little breeze on my port beam pushing me to starboard. I think it is also the added windage of the stack pack (lazy bag). It’s taller than I’d like and catches too much wind even when it’s down.
      Thanks for watching! 👍🏼

    • @mwmentor
      @mwmentor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sailingsole Hi there: No, I was talking about placing springers at either end of the coach roof for example and then the forward one is made fast to the dock at the stern of the boat, and the stern towards the bow of boat. that way you have a quick way of controlling and securing the boat quickly and relatively easily when you're short handed, or at any other time during docking, which can be tricky, especially if you have an unfavorable wind/current. Once the springers are in place, you can get your bow and stern lines in place with less pressure.
      Yeah, just because you're bare poled doesn't mean no windage - it is a problem that needs to be borne in mind and compensated for. Happy sailing 🙂

    Lovely video! You might get a bit more performance (especially upwind) if you tighten up the luff of the main. If you take a look at it, you'll see creases coming from each slide on the luff of the main; that should be flat, without those creases. You can either use the winch for that last bit when you're hoisting the main, or use the downhaul to tension it from below (or both!).
    Happy sailing!

    I just came across your channel today, (E2), I like what I've seen--subscribed--will now watch second episode. As a land locked arm chair sailor from west central Alberta, I enjoy watching all aspects of a persons sailing experience, building, renovating, problem solving and just sailing. If you read the owners manual, you should put the engine in neutral and increase the RPM's for about 30 seconds, then bring back to idle and immediately shut it off. Helps blow out carbon, which diesels create a lot of at low RPM's.

    Very good, some people talk way to much when all you need is like Steve McQueen, very little words and more action. Sailing speaks for it self with just a little instruction from you, that’s the way I think to enjoy kinda what you’re experiencing in that moment like how you put the camera on the side. We don’t get enough of that experience. I guess it’s time to get a sailboat and go for it! Thanks man ⛵️great job!

    Your "Genoa" looks like a Working Jib. Looks like you're figuring it out.

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure if it’s a 120% or 135% but it goes quite a bit past the mast so I wouldn’t call it a working jib.
      Why do you think it looks like a working jib?

    You've inspired me to shop for a sailboat. I live in Los Angeles. Do you recommend the best places/resources to shop for deals? Thank you!

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sam, if you’re looking for the best deals the standard places are where to look; OfferUp, Craigslist and FB marketplace. There are a lot of brokers that have boats that are not on YachtWorld so lookup local boat brokers and scour their inventory. The most important thing to do is find a place to put it. So call the local marinas and see if they have availability for the size range you’re looking to buy and if they don’t have any slips available then get on their waiting list. It should be free. Good luck and please lmk if you ever get one! I’d be hyped! Cheers! - Andy 🤙🏼

      @@sailingsole Andy, oh man, it's so nice to have tips from someone like you who is ahead it this process. Thank you!!! I shopped around like you suggested and found boats in my range in Marina Del Rey and Long Beach. Now what is the difference (pros/cons) of the two locations, or do you know? Seems the primary difference is that LBC has a huge marina with plenty of space for sheltered sailing. LBC slip fees are cheaper too.

    Andy, Just subscribed. A question about the "stack pack". Does it hold water? Seems like it would. Or does it have weep holes. thanks, jeff

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great question, it doesn’t hold water, but it does funnel the water into my boom. Then my boom fills up with water and has forced me to drill a weep hole for it to drain from so there was a complication but overall it’s great I’m getting reef holes sewn in for my reef lines, and I think that will help with the water problem.
