Charles White as a freshman predicting he would win a Heisman during his time at USC. In 1979 he checked that box. Statistically the greatest running back in USC's long and illustrious football history!
Awesome that you posted this game. Love finding old 1970's and 1980's USC games here. If you have '75 USC vs. UCLA and Notre Dame, would love to find it here on TH-cam. In fact, any USC/UCLA and USC/Notre Dame games from the 1970's and 1980's would be great.
Growing up on the other side of the continent, on the shores of NS ( Canada) as kid in the 70s I can tell you two voices I loved to hear as soon as it starts: Keith Jackson doing college football….and in the winter, Danny Gallivan doing the Habs broadcast on “Hockey Night In Canada “. Most on this thread likely don’t know Danny but trust me he was the greatest hockey commentator that ever lived. He was so well known and admired that part of the Canadian culture was using “Galvanism” in describing situations. Two legends.
BTW, we all wanted to be Oscar Edwards. If I remember clearly, his nickname was Dr. Death, and he wore a white towel with a skull and crossbones. Bad ass as a safety. lol
By then, they started shifting the field to the east when the end zone bleachers came out. Back then, snare drums sounded like snare drums and not bongos. I played snare in in marching band at my alma mater back in the late 70s. Ara covered the ND game the following week.
Ahhh Yes Indeed 💯 Luuuuved Mr. Keith & Ara was a great Commenter as well. I attended UCLA '84-'88 & round 2, '97-'01. Myself & Two of my cousins also attended UCLA & the other two of my Cousins attended USC. Yes these were the Glory College Football Days, I was in 6th grade when this game was played. Walley Henry, from San Diego for UCLA & William Gay of USC, also from San Diego, also my hometown & still reside in🏈🌊🏈⛱️🏈🌊🏈😁🏈
Terry Donohue was a very good coach, but his weakness was the lack of physicality of his teams. Those that matched his teams in talent beat the Bruins with physicality. He often spoke of Nebraska just beat his teams up, and USC did the same thing.
@@stealthbomber2127 donohue is very underrated historically. there was a stretch in the 80s where UCLA won 3 riose bowls and the fiesta bowl v. miami in a 4-year stretch. any UCLA fan who talks you they wouldn't take that in a heartbeat today is lying. if UCLA ever pulls it together and gets an on-campus stadium, it better be named for him or sonething's wrong.
Looks like Ivor Francis @ 34:41 ignoring the annoying guy in Cobra ad. He was pretty busy in mid 70's, unusual that he'd do a small 'walk across' part like this. Not a great halftime for young Jim Lampley, not to mention that hair... 'Lamps' getting blown off by John Robinson, was that a raspberry heard after the obvious question? Looks like a mix-up at half with flash cards showing Dr. Death and band playing 'Nadia's Theme'. What a sloppy ending.
Missouri was a real spoiler in 76. They beat Ohio State Colorado and USC. The win over USC cost Trojans Natty. Wonder Iowa State coached by Earle Bruce beat Mizzou
Mizzou also best Nebraska and North Carolina! Five wins over teams that finished in top twenty. Still just went 6-5 with no bowl. One of the quirkiest win loss records ever.
Look how lean and not swollen his face is. Looks like a real athlete. Not the swollen face, scalp and neck that eventually plauged him when on the PEDs in the NFL. Great player gone way to soon because of PEDS to bench 700. He did not need them to be a great player.
great pictures in you videos and take a look again is like the good old days.
Love Keith Jackson, to me the best voice of NCAA football.
No question. Will never be matched.
I agree. Plus Ray Scott is right up there with him.
Keith Jackson - “Special Teams, Special Teams, Special Teams!” Or”Option, option”
Wha NELLIE.
R.I.P KIETH JACKSON.
GOD BLESS HIM AND HIS FAMILY.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL LEGEND.

When college football was great. I throughly enjoyed watching this again.
Same here.
UCLA linebacker Jerry Robinson was a three-time All-American from 1976-78.
A hidden classic gem. The Coliseum was packed to the gills!! Fantastic.
The only intercity rivalry in college football makes the USC vs UCLA game unique.
Lots of future Tampa Bay Bucs here.

72, 73, 77, 78, and 79a are on TH-cam.
Lot of games from the 80's are on TH-cam.
I want to see more early 70 games. Thanks.
7:55 Looks like Charles White's words were prophetic.

I love your entire block of games! ❤❤❤
I was ten and we were at this game. We were a UCLA family. BTW, every player looks like they're 40. LOL
Can't get over the size or lack of it compared to today's players.
USC cheerleaders were off the hook...
Still 48 years later, I’m still in love w SC cheer squad
those ladies are all pushing 70 now. time sure does go by fast
@@robfalter2522 Time marches on. So many of these 18-22 year old kids playing have passed away.
@CIF-pm7tk they're not cheerleaders. they're "Song Girls".
@@shawnflanagan4995 the thread started w calling them cheerleaders. 📣 I’m
Very aware they are song girls. But I’m going with the subject at hand!
OMG USC was loaded on defense! I swear I wonder why they didn't go undefeated 5 years in a row.
people used to go to those games, but the stands are half full now. It's sad.
BTW, we all wanted to be Oscar Edwards. If I remember clearly, his nickname was Dr. Death, and he wore a white towel with a skull and crossbones. Bad ass as a safety. lol
Absolutely! Played Pop Warner up in Lancaster at this time and we all wore Dr. Death themed towels.

can you get your hands on 1976 ucla/ airzona st. game?
what was going on at the Rose Bowl that UCLA played home games at the Coliseum?
Both teams wearing home jerseys as they both played at the coliseum at the time.
Still to this day. Both wear home

Keith Jackson, Ara Parsegshan & Jim Lampley.

It wasn't until 1988 that UCLA put a team on the field against Nebraska that was more physical.

For years Terry Donahue turned 11-0 teams into 9-2 and 8-3 teams.
Do you have the 1969, 1970 and 1974 games to be shown?

Looking for UCLA nose guard Steven Tetrick height and weight. Doesn't look but 5'7. How the game has changed.
@jamesfields2916 listed in '76 rose bowl program as 5'11 and 210lb. A 210lb NG? 😳
@@mickeylynch8982 that would barely rate a D3 school today.
Remember watching USCs opening game against Missouri on tape delay and Missour blew them out 46-25! Its not how you start its how you finish.
45:31 the 1970s camera operators = men
It's so funny how USC wants to shoot for national prominence and UCLA just wants to beat USC!!!😂
#fighton!
Oscar Edwards AKA Doctor Death!
🔥

Which player?
Dennis Thurman. Future Cowboys great.
Keith Jackson was the best
I dig those 70s Afros
